Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick, Pradeep and Bidipto- for this wonderful game between the Netherlands and Scotland from the Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo in Bulawayo. Bas de Leede put up an exhilarating performance to book the Netherlands' ticket for the World Cup in India later this year. They become the second team after Sri Lanka to qualify for the main event. Meanwhile Sri Lanka take on the West Indies for the final encounter of the Super Sixes stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers tomorrow. We hope you have enjoyed the coverage Until next time, ciao!
Scott Edwards, the Netherlands' captain: I am completely lost for words. We first thought that the West Indies game was tough for the heart, but the last 20 overs here were hard to beat. Exceptional performance. We just put in a lot of hard work. The guys enjoy each other's success. In every game, we had a different match-winner. By looking at the wicket first thing in the morning, I would not have thought 277 to be too easy to chase down. Bas (de Leede) and Saqib (Zulfiqar) did extremely well today. Our coach Cookie (Ryan Cook) brought the batting group together at the halfway stage and told us what we had to do- we broke it down in patches. (On Bas de Leede) Build the man a statue! He is an unbelievable player. This is not the first time that he has done it, and it will surely not be the last.
Richie Berrington, Scotland captain: It is a very hard result to digest. We are all hurting right now. However, we have to give credit to the Netherlands. Through the middle phase, we created a lot of pressure but could not quite carry it off. I think they ran exceptionally well between the wickets. I can't find my boys' results at all- they gave it their all. There wasn't a lot of swing today but we swayed from our plans a little and that is what allowed them to come back. Bas de Leede was fantastic today. We knew we had to beat some very good teams in this tournament to qualify. Today, Holland were the better side. But we can be very proud of the way that we have played. We have a lot of young players coming in- which bodes well for the future.
Bas de Leede is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: We had a look at the target at the half-way point, from that time onwards Maxi and Vikram set things up and made it easier for me to come in and finish it off. It was ten or eleven in an over, almost like a T20 mode, we wanted to get as many as we can in each of that over. It's amazing, I can't describe the feeling and I'm sure there's going to be one big party tonight.
Logan van Beek: I'm buzzing, honestly buzzing right now and walking back, my whole body is shaking right now, this is unbelievable. Taking back to 1 to win, I ran for my life and went to the other end. We tried to build a culture, we tried to rode the boat, each one of brought spirit, skills, passion and teams have jelled together in the 6 months and we've crossed obstacles, but look we're going to the world cup. All hail Bas de Leede!!
Vikramjit Singh: No words, feeling short of words and we've worked so hard for it and it's so unreal. We've been practising for these moment, finally putting it in the action, just brilliant. We knew it's going to be up and down, we were quite confident, if we get a good start we could make it.
The Netherlands beat Scotland by 4 wickets!
Bas de Leede 123 (92) and 5/52 Brandon McMullen 106 (110) | Michael Leask 2/42
Bas de Leede- remember the name! What a performance this young man put up to send his team through to the main event of the Men's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be held in India later this year. He was assisted ably by Saqib Zulfiqar, who ensured that the Dutch managed to cross over the line quite comfortably!
It seemed like a task that would have been too difficult when the middle order failed to deliver. Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru, of whom a lot was expected, could not quite show up today. All seemed lost when they departed, but young de Leede put his hand up, just as he did earlier in the day with the ball in hand.
He is only the fourth man ever to take a five-wicket haul and score a century in the same One Day International, following in the footsteps of Sir Vivian Richards, Paul Collingwood and Rohan Mustafa. The Netherlands now qualify for the main event to be held in India later this year along with Sri Lanka, who take on the West Indies tomorrow.
Scott Edwards will be absolutely delighted with his team's performance today and throughout the competition. Richie Berrington's Scotland bow out after putting in a decent performance themselves. They were very good today, but they were beaten by one name- Bas de Leede. There was no Scot who could come to terms with the phenomenon called Bas de Leede today.
THE NETHERLANDS HAVE QUALIFIED! The Queen's Park in Bulawayo erupts in joy as the Dutch beat Scotland to qualify for the main event of the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in India later this year. The Scottish players seem dejected and in a moment of great sportsmanship, Logan van Beek and Saqib Zulfiqar go and lend them a shoulder. That's cricket!
Bas de Leede- he was the one who saw them through. He is an exceptional young cricketer who is bound to go a long way. He has only just signed a two-year contract with Durham, and one can only hope that his good showing continues. His father, former Dutch captain Tim de Leede, will be an exceptionally proud tonight!
42.5 Chris Sole to Logan van Beek, NETHERLANDS ARE GOING TO INDIA! Jubilation and celebration for Netherlands, what a game we've had and Netherlands qualify to the main event that's happening later in the year in India. Yorker length outside the off-stump, van Beek drilled it to wide mid-off to take the single! Agony for Scotland, they missed out in the last few overs of this game but they've been sensational throughout the tournament!
Scores are level!
42.4 Chris Sole to Saqib Zulfiqar, full on the stumps, Zulfiqar backed away and drilled it to deep covers for one.
42.3 Chris Sole to Saqib Zulfiqar, another yorker, right up in the blockhole. Zulfiqar jams it out, went straight back to the bowler.
Logan van Beek, RHB, is in at 8.
Ah, anti-climactic! De Leede will not be around to see his team home. He is walking back knowing that he is well short.
42.2 Chris Sole to Bas de Leede, RUN-OUT! DIRECT-HIT! de Leede knows he's gone but the umpire goes upstairs to check. Yorker length on the off-stump, de Leede jams his bat to it and squirts it to short mid-wicket. They take off for the quick single, but Sharif runs in, picks it up and darts it into the stumps and de Leede finds himself well short and walks back for a standing ovation!
Bas de Leede run out (Safyaan Sharif) 123 (92b 7x4 5x6)
42.1 Chris Sole to Saqib Zulfiqar, back of a length on the off-stump, Zulfiqar on the backfoot looks to defend but gets the inside edge on to the pad, they pick up a single. Just 2 needed now!
Chris Sole [7-1-36-0] is back into the attack.
A two to end the over! The Dutch have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat here. The Scots seem to be falling apart. Just three runs needed by the Netherlands to qualify, and they have 12 balls to do it in.
