So that concludes our coverage of the tournament opener but the second game is not far away with the Deccan Gladiators taking on Team Abu Dhabi. Could we see a certain Suresh Raina make his T10 debut? Do hop over here and catch our coverage of that contest right here on Sportskeeda. Thank you so much for tuning into this one - this is the duo of Arya Shekar Chakraborty and Sooryanarayanan Sesha taking your leave for the moment. Bye-bye and see you around soon!
He sure enjoyed himself today alright! What a knock that was from Evin Lewis and a fine performance by the Bangla Tigers. They're off to a winning start this season while the New York Strikers have to put this behind them and move forward without getting bogged down by the defeat.
Evin Lewis is the Player of the Match for his stunning half-century. Here's what he has to say: It was a pretty good wicket. We don't have much time to get adjusted to in the shortest format. Once you get going you try to maximize. This format's a very exciting format. (Anything different in preparations for T10s?) No you just try to enjoy.
Rohan Mustafa: First of all thanks to the Almighty. Great performance at the start of the tournament. You know that when you have a target of more than 130 the opposition is under pressure. We did very good fielding, if you take some good catches the pressure will be on the opposition. Not easy for the new batters to score from the outset.
Match summary: Bangla Tigers beat New York Strikers by 19 runs.
Evin Lewis 58 (22) | Rohan Mustafa 2/20 (2) Kieron Pollard 45* (19) | Ravi Rampaul 2/16 (2)
One name that will not be seen in that summary is that of Bangla Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan. His all-round show has gone a long way in ensuring that his side has gotten off to a winning start this season. What a clinical performance by his bowlers after Evin Lewis powered them to 131 with a blistering half-century.
Shakib had Paul Stirling in all sorts even as Azam Khan took the bull by the horns at the other end. Notwithstanding a 25-run Jake Ball over though, Shakib kept it extremely tight and gave nothing away, ensuring that the asking rate continued to rise steadily. Once Azam perished for an entertaining 34, life became difficult for the Strikers.
They kept losing too many wickets at regular intervals, even as skipper Kieron Pollard did his bit and found the fence at will. With 46 needed off the final two overs though, it was too tall an ordeal for the big West Indian as well, even as he took it as close as he possibly could and rewound the clock.
Rohan Mustafa was nagging as usual while Matheesha Pathirana did his bit to good effect himself as the Strikers just couldn't get any kind of leeway. A fine performance overall across departments by the Bangla Tigers and the New York Strikers have been given a tough introduction to the league. They have all the firepower to put it behind them and roar back though!
A clinical display from start to finish. Well, almost, with Shakib shelling a sitter. But he won't mind, nor will the rest of his teammates. Bangla Tigers begin the Abu Dhabi T10 2022 with a 19-run win.

9.6 Jake Ball to Kieron Pollard, Shakib Al Hasan drops a sitter but that doesn't matter. On a length a shade outside off, Pollard slices this from the outside half of the bat and Shakib drops a dolly at the edge of the circle down the cover region.
Nav Pabreja, RHB, comes to the crease.
Sums up the game for the Strikers.
9.5 Jake Ball to Kieron Pollard,OUT!!! a slower delivery on a length around middle. Pollard was deceived a bit and heaves it away towards the deep square leg region. Was a bit early into the shot and calls Wahab for a double. The fast bowler couldn't quite make his ground and has to head back to the pavilion. Wahab Riaz run out (Evin Lewis/Jake Ball) 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)
9.4 Jake Ball to Kieron Pollard, a yorker-length delivery outside off. Jammed away straight to the backward point fielder.
Don't bowl a no ball or a wide Jake Ball and you've done your job!
9.3 Jake Ball to Kieron Pollard, SIX!!! That was absolutely nailed. Might be too late in the game but he is showing his class. A short delivery from Ball and Pollard gets into position and early and pulls it away well over the deep backward square leg boundary for a maximum.
And that should be that for this contest!
9.2 Jake Ball to Kieron Pollard, slower delivery on a length a shade outside off. Pollard mistimes the attempted hack towards midwicket and refuses the single.
9.1 Jake Ball to Wahab Riaz, a slower delivery which goes under the bat of Riaz but still they take the bye single.
Jake Ball [1.0-0-25-0] to bowl the final over of the game
Still life in this game alright! But Pollard is off strike. What will Wahab Riaz do? Surely, he has to get Pollard back on strike? Final over coming up - Strikers need 28 to win!

8.6 Umair Ali to Kieron Pollard, FOUR!!! a slower delivery on a length angling down the leg side. Pollard with a nifty glance as he works it away past the short fine leg fielder and off to the fence.
