That's all from us then! We hope you enjoyed our coverage of this Abu Dhabi T10 qualifier 1 between the Morrisville Samp Army and the New York Strikers. This is Soumarya Dutta, signing off on behalf, of my partner Srivathsa. See you soon!
New York Strikers 82/6 in 8.3 overs Muhammad Waseem 36(15) | Maheesh Theekshana 3/12 Eoin Morgan 14(7) | Karim Janat 1/23
This has been a really emphatic win for the New York Strikers! They were outstanding with the ball and with the bat, they hopped their way through to achieve the target with 4 wickets remaining and 9 balls to spare. The Striker's did loose wicket's at regular intervals and were struggling at 46/4 but Mohammad Waseem played an absolute blinder to take them home from there. He was unbeaten on 36 of 16 and in a low scoring game, it was the real difference in the end.
The Samp Army bowlers fought incredibly hard and they made life tough for the Strikers batsmen. Theekshana was the pick of the bowlers for them getting 3/12 and that kept them in the game for a while, before the Muhammad Waseem show began. Chamika Karunratne, Karim Janat and Cottrell, picked up a wicket apiece. However, it wasn't enough in the end as 81 was too low a score to defend.
Overall, the Strikers will be thrilled with this performance as they have marched into the finals and they will get a day to rest and recover. Their batting might still worry them, but they take a lot of positives from the bowling effort. Local lad, Waseem came good for them and that has been a big bonus. For the Samp Army, well they will have another shot at qualifying for the finals, in a few hours, but they will really have to regroup quickly and get their act together here.
Kieron Pollard, New York Strikers Captain: It was a bit close in the end and we didn't really play our best cricket, but Waseem stood up for us and guided us home. We are really happy to be in this place. We will look to relax and enjoy a bit and then come out fresh and focused for the finals. Hopefully, the most deserving side will join us for the finals.
Eoin Morgan, New York Strikers: It got a bit closer in the end than what we had imagined. Our bowlers were outstanding, especially Akeal, Wahab and Jordan did really well. Kieron Pollard, really led from the front today. Overall, we would have been happier with a better batting performance, but we achieved our target in the end and we can be satisfied with that. Looking forward to the finals now.
The New York Strikers, win by 4 wickets!
8.3 Chamika Karunaratne to Akeal Hosein, FOUR! All over. Hosein finishes it off. Short and wide outside off, slapped over extra-cover and the Strikers win after a wobble
8.2 Chamika Karunaratne to Muhammad Waseem, short and at Waseem who controls the pull to fine-leg for a single
8.1 Chamika Karunaratne to Akeal Hosein, slower ball on a length on the stumps, defended in front of cover for a quick single
The Strikers are almost there but there but the Samp Army are still fighting! Their bowler's have done a great job in making a match out of this one, but Muhammad Waseem, has taken it away from them single-handedly. Just 5 more needed to win for them now.
