Commentary

Right then. What a couple of semi-finals games we've witnessed. The tournament had been a slow burner for a while but it's spiced up alright towards the end. Quite the deja vu feels in both games as well. It was the Bairstow catch moment yesterday, while Mitchell finished things off for New Zealand. Tonight, it was Wade's sixes against Shaheen, reminiscent of Mike Hussey's steal for Pakistan against Saeed Ajmal. The finalists of the 2015 World Cup will go head to head again in a Trans-Tasman final and we will have new T20 champions crowned on Sunday. That's all we have for now. Aaron Finch: It was a great game of cricket. The way Wade held his nerve was unbelievable and that partnership with Marcus Stoinis was crucial. I just got my feet in a tangle first up. It happens to batters early on in the innings. In T20 cricket you get some good ones every now and then. I thought we were pretty sloppy today, we dropped a couple of chances, even though they were tough ones. But what we showed today was that you need all your players, everyone in your 15 to contribute. (On chasing teams winning so many games) It's really strange. There's no dew, but the lights take effect and the wicket speeds up a bit. I was hoping to lose the toss and put a total on the board and defend it, but it was good to chase that target down in the end.

Babar Azam: We started well in the first half. We put up a good total on the board. The bowling was good in the first half but we didn't hit our mark in the second innings. The catch was a turning point. It could have been a different scenario then. As a player, you have to be ready for anything that comes your way. Having said that, I'm pleased with my team's performance in the tournament. Definetely. When you play so well in the tournament, you have to do on the day as well. You can't relax and be complacent, The guys have played really well. They fulfilled their roles and put in performances, which will bode well for the future. The crowd supported us throughout. We always enjoy playing in the UAE, they always support us and we enjoyed that very much and are grateful for it.

Matthew Wade: (On the ramps) I pre-empted those, absolutely. I worked out with Stoinis. I could have used it a little earlier but good to get a couple in the end. We lost a few quick wickets. When I walked out with Marcus, the rate was getting up. We had gotten the team across the line earlier. There was one short side. I was confident that I could drag the right balls for six. I think when I got out there, we stalled a bit after 5-6 balls. The rate gets up very quickly. Luckily, I had Stoinis who got a couple of boundaries away. It's hard to say (the feeling after the win). It hasn't sunk in. It probably will tomorrow morning. Happy that I repaid the faith a little bit.

It's hard to put into words what we've witnessed in this contest. The relief and joy on the face of Wade and Stoinis tells you all you need to know! This knock has come at a perfect time for Australia with their lower-middle order stepping up in this knockout tie. What a contest. What a game. Cricket, you beautiful game!

Chasing 177 was always going to be a tough task for Australia but they've got there with an over to spare. That doesn't tell the entire story though. Pakistan were right on top with Afridi running riot with the new ball to dismiss Finch. Shadab has having a party in the middle overs and ended up with figures of 4/26 to have Australia on tenter hooks.

Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis joined in at 96 for 5 in the 13th over and the required run rate above 10, with Australia needing 81 off 46 balls. From there on, it was their show. Shaheen, Imad and Shadab, all delivered potentially match-winning spells but Australia pulled off one of the greatest heists we've seen this tournament. Doing that with an over to spare and against Pakistan's best bowler, makes it all the more impressive.

Matthew Wade, take a bow! Pakistan are dumbfounded! Australia, ecstatic. Hasan Ali's drop catch was the turning moment in the contest and he's had a tough night, to say the least. Stay tuned for the presentations.
