That will be that then from yet another chapter in the India-Pakistan rivalry. It was a game that fizzled out really for all the hype and build-up. But neither the Indian team nor their fans will complain. The action rolls along in the Champions Trophy as it now makes its foray into Rawalpindi where Bangladesh face a must-win situation against a red-hot New Zealand side tomorrow. That hamstring is holding up but Rohit Sharma won't mind it too much as long as it soothes over the next couple of days. It's a victory that'll taste very sweet with India all but through to the semifinals of the Champions Trophy. That they've done so by landing a potential knockout punch to the defending champions and their subcontinental rivals would only make it a whole lot sweeter and this Indian unit continues to function quite beautifully. A day that belonged to Virat Kohli of course, who can be seen sporting a wide smile as he greets Jay Shah, the ICC Chairman, and his kids as we speak.

As for Pakistan, their campaign is all but over. It will certainly be done and dusted should New Zealand beat Bangladesh tomorrow and while they aren't out just yet at this point, they need a whole lot of things to go their way. Simply put, they just haven't showed up this tournament and with so much going wrong, they have to go back to the drawing board yet again. Could heads roll perhaps? Time will tell with absolutely nothing predictable as far as Pakistan cricket is concerned!

Rohit Sharma (India captain): The way we started with the ball was superb to restrict them to that kind of score. We knew it would get slightly better to bat under lights. Gets slower as well but we wanted to back the experience in our lineup to go out there and get those runs. Credit goes to guys like Axar, Kuldeep and Jadeja in the middle there. They've played a lot of cricket in this format and understand what's required of them. Rizwan and Saud stitched a very good partnership so it was important for us to not let the game drift away. The experience of the three spinners comes in handy there. Not to forget how Hardik, Harshit and Shami bowled. Everyone came to the party and did exactly what was required on that pitch. A lot of the credit goes to the players as well. We've played a lot of cricket together and they do understand what job is required of them. It can be quite tricky at times where some guys will not get to bowl 10 overs. It's important to understand what's working on that particular day and maximize that. Everyone will have different days but it was Axar, Kuldeep - those guys stepped up today. In the previous game it was Jadeja, in this game it was these guys and Hardik with those crucial strikes. (On Kohli) He loves representing the country. He wants to be out there playing for the team, doing what he does the best which is to go out there and do what he did today. Over the years we've seen it with him. People sitting in the dressing room are not surprised. It was good for him to be out there in the middle, finish the game off. Couple of crucial knocks from the others too there. (On his hamstring) It's holding up but it's okay at the moment.

Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan captain): (On the batting performance) We won the toss but we didn't get the benefit of it. Yesterday we decided that 280 was enough on that pitch and that's how we started. But they bowled very well and kept us quiet. Me and Saud took time, we wanted to bat deep. But you can say it was a poor shot selection at the time. They bowled very well and put us under pressure. That's why we were restricted to 240 (241). (On the bowling) You can say that (we needed more from the bowlers). They attacked us. We wanted to squeeze them but we weren't able to. Abrar bowled very well. But Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill played very well and took the match away from us. We need to improve in our fielding as well if you see the fielding of other teams. We made a lot of mistakes in this match and the last match as well. We understand that and hopefully we'll work on that after the tournament.

No surprises about the Player Of The Match - Virat Kohli's been presented the award for his unbeaten hundred off 111 deliveries! Here's what he says: It feels good to be able to bat in that manner in a game where we were able to seal qualification in the semis and to contribute in a situation like that. Lost Rohit early, had to string a partnership, took learnings from the conditions, the understanding of how to go about things. My job was clear, to control the middle overs, to see off the seamers and not take many risks. Keep rotating strike, once we strung a partnership Shreyas got going and I got a few boundaries as well. More or less the way I play ODI cricket, so I was happy with the template. I have a decent understanding of my game over the years, keep the outside noise away and stay in my zone as much as possible, take care of how my energy levels are, my thoughts. Easy for me to get pulled in the expectations in these games. My job is to focus on my skill, and to be able to do the job for my team as much as I can. I kept telling myself on the field when I felt down was give hundred percent every time I face up. Some times I'll get the reward. That's why I take a lot of pride in working hard on the field. Clarity is very important, need to play your shots when there's pace on the ball to keep the game moving, the spinners become a lot more potent if you can't score off the seamers. Shubman (Gill) and Shreyas (Iyer) have been excellent, Shubman took up Shaheen, there's a reason why he's number one. Shreyas is coming into his own, he did well in India and now as well. Everyone's had a decent knock in these conditions. That will help in the upcoming matches. (On a week off before the next game) A week off at the age of 36 is very good, it takes a lot out of me in putting in that effort, so I'll put my feet up for a few days.

India were always believed to be a bit too strong for Pakistan. As things panned out, they went on to prove that notion right with a dominant display all the way through. The bowlers weren't necessarily at their penetrative best but Pakistan simply failed to adjust to a slow surface with their tempo far from ideal too as they managed to post just 241 while losing all their wickets.

Thereafter, India got off to a brisk start again with skipper Rohit Sharma continuing to take the attack to the new ball bowlers like he often does. Shubman Gill picked up from where he left off against Bangladesh - a sumptuous short-arm jab and a regal straight drive sent stocks soaring for aesthetics as he crunched the ball off the middle of the bat. Rohit seemed switched on for a big one too before a searing Shaheen Afridi yorker sent him packing. But Gill kept the tempo up and allowed Virat Kohli to ease himself in even as the latter middled the ball really well and seemed to be in the mood for a big one. The way he moved around in his crease was a reflection of a determined Kohli wanting to prove a point.

Both the master and the apprentice went about their work in silky smooth fashion as India's hundred was raised at just under a run-a-ball. Gill did struggle for a bit with what seemed like cramp but looked at ease with his batting - until Abrar Ahmed produced a pearler to conjure a wicket out of nowhere for Pakistan. It was followed by a send-off to the batter too but that was one of the few things Pakistan could smile about today.

Their fielding left a bit to be desired too as they shelled a couple of chances. Shreyas Iyer took his time as both him and Kohli decided to play out Abrar and not take any undue risks. The asking rate was never even close to getting precarious and both batters played it out smartly with Kohli raising a sublime fifty in the process. Once the part-timers came on, Shreyas cashed in and picked up pace, racing along within no time to post a half-century of his own. The pitch seemed to get better to bat on under lights and Abrar aside, no other batter seemed to pose a threat.

Thereafter, the only question was whether Kohli would record a hundred or not. He kept getting closer and while Imam-ul-Haq plucked a stunner to send Shreyas back and Hardik Pandya also perished after a couple of attacking shots, the Dubai crowd watched nervously with the deficit also reducing. Shaheen Afridi lost his radar on a few occasions and that got the crowd to boo him with those wides bringing th edeficit down further. Kohli himself was taking every run on offer though - while also taken aback by Axar Patel not returning for a second and having the strike for himself at one stage - and eventually, it was a beautiful loft over the covers that got the job done for his team, as well as number 51 to his credit. And soon came a signal to the dressing room that seemed to suggest 'I am here' - and he sure was today!

He gets there! Number 51 for Virat Kohli and he seals the deal in style! A fabulous innings by one of the greatest ever and once again, he has saved his best for the game against Pakistan. Muted celebrations really even as he wears a grin on his face and gently raises the bat. India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets to complete their second win of the 2025 Champions Trophy!

The man just keeps growing in stature - extending his lead in that chart of most hundreds in ODI cricket. The entire dressing room is up on its feet as Kohli gestures something towards them - assuring he had things covered all this while! Back to the delivery - Khushdil landed this on a shortish length wide of off. Kohli was down the wicket early, he proceeded to adjust with the length and absolutely pummeled the ball over extra cover on the rise. A quality shot from a quality player, and India move ever-so-close to a spot in the semi-final of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy!
