Kane Williamson, captain of New Zealand: You never really know completely, do you (when asked as to how he was so sure to bat first on this surface) but we were fortunate to get over the line today. Conway and I tried to build a partnership and take the total towards 300 but it fizzled out in the middle. Our bowlers were fantastic today, especially the seamers who got the breakthroughs first up. The spinners were on top of their game too. Happy to win this game.

Babar Azam, captain of Pakistan: We lost wickets early, and that is what we did wrong. When Rizwan and I were batting, we were trying to build a partnership. When Agha Salman came to the crease, he stepped the game further and tried to increase the scoring rate. New Zealand's bowlers were on top of the game, and full credit to them. We will be prepared to face them on Friday.

Devon Conway, Player of the Match: We did try targeting 300 today, but somehow it did not come off. Credit to Kane for hanging in there with me and helping steady the ship. A lot of credit needs to be given to him. We have adjusted to the pitches somehow and hopefully, will continue scoring runs. You have to be proactive when you're playing spin.

Mitchell Santner, New Zealand: It (the surface) did spin a bit more than it does usually. Don't know why that was so. Good performance by the lads. We knew that we needed to pick wickets early and that we had to get rid of Babar and Rizwan as quickly as we could. Happy with my bowling as well.

Pakistan never really seemed to be in the chase, and this is what will hurt them tremendously. Skipper Babar Azam was the sole batter who kept them in the hunt till the end (in the process, becoming the batter with the highest batting average in One Day International history) but once he was dismissed via a wily stumping by Tom Latham, it was all downhill for the hosts.

Pakistan lost two wickets early on in their innings, and that set them back even before they had got set. Rizwan and Babar got a partnership going, but the former was castled by a beauty from Mitchell Santner that spun away very late after pitching on off and middle. There was nothing that Rizwan could have done to that delivery. It did seem that Pakistan were playing a batter short, and they got exposed today.

New Zealand were served extremely well by their spinners Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi but it would be unfair to their seamers Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson to say that they did not make an impact. The latter mentioned duo broke the home team's batting order early on in the innings, and it is only fitting that each of the bowlers bagged at least a wicket. New Zealand were the better side overall, and deserve this result.

Split screen has come up now, zoom replay confirms that the foot was in the air when Latham clipped the bails off and the TV umpire signals that as OUT! That should be the game for New Zealand!
