Match summary: Brisbane Heat beat Perth Scorchers by 33 runs.
Georgia Redmayne 28 (25) | Nicola Hancock 3/26 (4) Maddy Green 58 (53) | Alana King 2/24 (4)
A dominant bowling and fielding display and the Heat have scorched the defending champions in their own backyard. It was always going to be a tough ask for the Scorchers having lost their openers Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney inside the four-over powerplay and with the Heat bowlers hitting their radar to the 'T', it only complicated matters even further.
Jess Jonassen was happy to keep switching her bowlers in and out of the attack with nobody getting a long spell per se. The seamers hit the deck and used the bounce on offer while the spinners had enough purchase to work with. Maddy Green was in charge of the resurrection as the asking rate continued to mount with the Scorchers losing wickets at regular intervals. In essence, the wicket of Marizanne Kapp before the drinks break was the final nail in the coffin as it left Green and Mathilda Carmichael far too much to do.
The duo got a steady partnership going but such was the required run rate that the move to delay the Power Surge backfired on the home side. Green looked to switch gears but it just never came with the Heat giving nothing to work with. Nicola Hancock and Courtney Sippel then partnered up to send down a couple of masterful overs in the Power Surge, shutting the door on the Scorchers for good, even as Green notched up a half-century. Amelia Kerr and Charli Knott were impeccable with the ball themselves, with the latter bowling the final over in the powerplay and landing the killer blow in the form of Mooney's wicket.
The result has now seen the Heat soar to the top of the table and this is a huge boost for them as they've managed to pull one back over the defending champions. The Scorchers have work to do with the bat with a lot continuing to ride on the shoulders of Mooney at this point - with the Hobart Hurricanes slowly climbing up the ladder, every game is now crucial for those in the top four if they are to consolidate their positions in the upper echelons of the table.
A clinical display on the field and with the ball in hand and it was as good as it could have got from the Heat's point of view. They now surge to the top of the table with a thumping 33-run victory!

19.6 Nicola Hancock to Lilly Mills, The Heat win easily! It's a loopy dipping full-toss and Mills waits and scoops it behind square for one. And that's the end of it
Lilly Mills, RHB, comes to the crease
And with that, Hancock is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the season
19.5 Nicola Hancock to Alana King, OUT! Two in two. Full-toss on off, swung straight and caught overhead right in front of the ropes at fine-leg. Good judgement shown and Sippel made it look so easy. Alana King c Courtney Sippel b Nicola Hancock 2 (4b, 0x4, 0x6)
Around the wicket now.
Piepa Cleary, RHB, comes to the crease
19.4 Nicola Hancock to Maddy Green, OUT! Direct-hit from Jonassen and Green has to go. Driven to mid-off and Green is well short as the throw comes in and hits the stumps. Maddy Green run out (Jess Jonassen) 58 (53b, 1x4, 1x6)
Back over the wicket but it's a tough chance gone abegging.
19.3 Nicola Hancock to Maddy Green, DROPPED! Full outside off, miscued straight back at Hancock who drops and then tries to close her legs and hopes for the ball to lodge inside them, it does not
19.2 Nicola Hancock to Maddy Green, SIX! Finally Green gets one off the middle. Full down leg, heaved powerfully over deep backward square
19.1 Nicola Hancock to Maddy Green, full outside off, driven to sweeper and the throw is not taken cleanly by Hancock, had she done so, King was gone
Nicola Hancock [3.0-0-17-2] to bowl the final over of the game. Around the wicket she comes.
Top class defensive bowling from Jonassen and she know she doesn't have to try too hard with a massive win on the cards. Due credit must be given to the Heat fielders - haven't they had their tails up today and backed the efforts of the bowlers! It's a half-century for Maddy Green but it's a case of too little, too late.
