The Perth Scorchers had an inkling that the game had slipped out of the grasp once Sophie Devine and then Beth Mooney departed. Marizanne Kapp tried her best to salvage it with the middle-order, but Lauren Smith came in the way and proceeded to pick up a five-for to pretty much wrap up the game. Numbers 9 and 11, Alana King and Holly Ferling had a six-hitting competition among themselves in the final over, but the game was gone from them by then.

Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney got the women in orange off to a good start. The duo put up 25 for the first wicket before Sophie Devine, trying to maul a full toss away from Sammy-Jo Johnson, skied it and was taken at mid-wicket. Chloe Piparo and Mooney then departed in quick succession, Mooney trying to take on the left-arm spinner and hitting it straight to the palms of Porter at short mid-wicket. With their top-order being blown away, the Scorchers tried to crawl their way back in the game, but wickets at regular intervals meant that Marizanne Kapp ran out of partners and was unable to stitch a stable partnership. She kept going, challenging the required rate for a while, until she ended up sweeping a delivery down leg into the palms of the fielder at fine leg. The contest looked dusted right then, Piepa Cleary made an attempt to keep it going but it was never going to be enough, and the Thunder coasted home by 25 runs in the end.
