Pitch Report

It's a new pitch today, and the boundary dimensions have changed. 69 meters towards point, 62 meters towards square leg and 74 meters down the ground facing the South End (right-handed). Batters will be aiming for that leg side as a right-hander. The pitch today looks similar to the one that was used in the Royals' game. They look identical, there's a few dry areas, but the pitch on Saturday remained consistent. Not much concern whether you win or lose the toss, runs on the board helped on Saturday, the most important thing is the length you bowl on this wicket. Was great for the batters when overpitched. The ball comes on nicely, and you can hit through the line. If you drop it short, with the pace down, that sets things up nicely. Jofra Archer got it spot on, he hit that length. Hitting that top of the stumps length bowling first or second, that is your area. Powerplay is when the ball is hard, but even at the back-end your length is crucial here, reports Daren Ganga and Michael Clarke.

11:40 PM IST: We have come to an end to a double header Tuesday and we have witnessed a couple of high scoring games. Close to 900 runs scored across two matches and in the end, it's LSG and PBKS who have come out triumphant. Coming to this particular game, the yellow army was put under the pump but they came back strongly, reducing PBKS to 83/5 before Priyansh Arya and Shashank Singh absolutely obliterated the CSK bowlers. The score of 219 was always going to be an uphill task and in the end, PBKS ended up winning by 18 runs. The confidence is growing in their camp while it's been a sorry tale for CSK so far in the tournament. The IPL carnival continues tomorrow with Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals squaring off in the 23rd match of the competition. Priyansh Arya is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: I am feeling out of the world, feeling really happy but want to keep contributing for my team. Yes I will play in this manner as well. Shreyas bhai told me just to back instincts and even go after the first ball if it's in my area. When Nehal came out to bat, we decided to take single or double but he told me to back my instincts so I continued in that manner. Every bowler in this tournament so had to tackle them carefully.

Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings captain): Absolutely this going to the template irrespective of any ground we play at out. It was scintillating to see Priyansh bat today. It was out of the world. When I had a chat with him in the last game, he was a bit timid, today he said I was just backing my instincts which were free flowing. Today he kept going and it was one of the top knocks I have seen in IPL. Not using Chahal was a tactical call, Dube was playing well with Conway. Yuzi is always a smart bowler. I felt my instincts were that pacers into the surface were better options. See we were talking that we haven't played our best game. We have to be fearless while fielding, have to do some group fielding session and come back stronger but it's important winning games which was the case today.

Shashank Singh (Punjab Kings): We were five-down for 90-odd when we went in to bat. My work is to play with the minimum risk and the maximum reward. The way Priyansh was batting, my role was to give him the strike and react to the ball. That's what I did, the way Priyansh was batting, I thought if he bats till the 15-16th over, we'll be close to 200, which was a par score on this wicket. You don't feel on the past performance when you enter the field, whether with bat or ball. My work was to be there and maximize the scoring. Like Lara sir, he told me how should I go and take my batting. I'm someone who times the ball well. Right now, I'm lucky I have Ricky Ponting with me, the way he tells and backs me. I didn't score much in the practice games, the way he backed me, kudos to him. (On Priyansh Arya) The match number one he played against GT, and he showed glimpses of himself. He does this for his state side and now at the highest level. We have a great side, and will look to take it match-by-match. Got to win the moments and stay in the present.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings captain): Since last four games, that's the only point of difference (fielding). Every time we drop a catch, the same batsman gets 15,20, 25 extra runs. It makes the difference, take the RCB game away, it was just a matter of two or three hits today. Sometimes you have to appreciate the opponent - Priyansh played really well. It was high risk batting and it came off really well. Even though we got the wickets, they kept the momentum going. Would have been 10-15 runs less had we executed well, but at the end of the day it comes down to the dropped catches. Today was spot on from a batting perspective - two of our best batters who can play pace really well went up the order and we had a great powerplay. It was an improved performance, a lot of positives out of the batting. We were just two-three hits away. (On Conway retired out) He's more of a timer of the ball, useful up the order, but when you have Jaddu (Jadeja), whose role is different, and he's known for it. The change was going to happen at some point, he (Conway) was striking it well at one point. We waited and waited until it was necessary to change. Told the guys we just have to enjoy, and have some fun, I spoke we have to enjoy the fielding. Being nervous will see you drop catches. To be a standout fielder, the first catch being taken, the first boundary save makes the morale high. We're trying to work on it right now, but it's just not happening.

A valiant effort from the Chennai Super Kings but the score of 219 proved to be a bit too much in the end as PBKS registered a 18 run win to get back to winning ways after a difficult game against the Rajasthan Royals. The yellow army needed an exceptional start in order to stay afloat in the game.

The two New Zealand batters Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra came out to open the innings and had a brilliant powerplay for CSK, sharing a 61 run stand. After three relatively quite overs, both Ravindra and Conway went hard at the bowlers and kept finding the boundaries on a consistent basis.

They continued the good work in the powerplay but Ravindra was dismissed immediately after the end of the powerplay which put the pressure back on the CSK middle order. Ruturaj Gaikwad who again batted at number three departed cheaply for just a solitary run to reduce CSK to 64/2 in the 8th over.

From there on, it was the pair of Devon Conway and Shivam Dube who brought CSK back into the game. Both got into their grooves and started finding the boundaries quite regularly and shared a 89 run stand. Dube departed at a crucial juncture of the game.

MS Dhoni came up the order and smashed three sixes en route to a 12 ball 27 but in the end the target was a way too much. Yash Thakur bowled a good final over PBKS won the match comfortably in the end. Stay tuned, we will be back with the presentations very shortly.

11:12 PM IST: That's a brilliant final over from Yash Thakur as PBKS return to winning ways while the Chennai Super Kings have a lot to ponder on as they can't buy a win at this stage of the tournament. There was some Dhoni magic towards the end but the target of 219 was always going to be a bit too much and it turned out in Punjab's favour. They rectified their mistakes from the previous encounter and came out all guns blazing. The day belonged to Priyansh Arya who scored a magical 39 ball century which set up the platform for the 18 run win.
