11:10 PM IST | The Indian Premier League just keeps giving! We've seen quite a few high-scoring games, now, it was time to get a low-scoring thriller! What was a match to pocket for Kolkata Knight Riders ended up going in favour of Punjab Kings. There was one epic and inspirational bowling spell to change the course of the match and there were some forgettable shots right through the game, more importantly so from the defending champions. Yuzvendra Chahal (Player of the Match, 4/28 in 4 overs): "This was a team effort. I was of the opinion that it wasn't an easy wicket, so taking early wickets was the key, which we did. When my first ball turned, I told Shreyas (Iyer) that it's important to have attacking fielders in place because wickets were the key. In the last match, I gave away a lot of runs. But I was confident about my bowling, and it clicked well on this track. The mindset is always to take wickets, that wicket of Ajju bhai (Ajinkya Rahane) was important. And, I kept it slower through the air so that they had to force the pace. My first Player of the Match award for Punjab, so it's special, but I wasn't really thinking along those lines to be honest."
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings captain): "I was just backing my instincts! Just told Yuzi to hold his breath, but yes, the right players were there at the right time! When I went out to bat, one stayed low, one bounced more. The others too said that it was a pitch with variable bounce. We had that at the back of our mind to bowl as much at the stumps as possible, and they got that plan right in terms of execution. Two wickets in two overs gave us the momentum we wanted, but then came a big partnership. But after that, Yuzi bowled superbly to change the course! I kept the field attacking to put pressure and the tide turned towards us. It's important that we stay humble and take the lessons from this win."

There was this moment in the 2nd innings when Xavier Bartlett's sloppy piece of fielding at fine-leg led to an overthrow, and eventually, five runs! But, under really bizarre circumstances! Take a look at the explanation.
Ricky Ponting (Punjab Kings head coach): "The heart rate is up. Probably over 200. I don't need that at the age of 50. Tells you how funny the game is. The other day we could not defend 245. How good was Chahal. We had a fitness test for him today. He picked up a shoulder injury. But before the game, he told me, 'Coach, I am 100% ready to play'. I would have been proud even if we did not win. Just how we went about in the second half. The wicket was holding up a bit, but not many would have given us a chance at the halfway stage. The match-ups tonight suggested that Jansen and Bartlett were the better choice with the new ball. This could be a season defining moment. I have coached a lot in the IPL. But this might be my best win."
Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): "Nothing to express. We all saw what happened. I will take the blame. I played a wrong shot. Yes, it was missing. But it was a bad shot. That is where it started. Angkrish wasn't really sure. He said it could be umpire's call. There was no talk of net run rate. It wasn't an easy wicket. We batted badly. The bowlers did really well on this wicket. You have to be positive. But on this wicket, the sweep shot was hard to play. We were a bit reckless and need to take responsibility as a batting unit. At the moment, too many things are going in my head. When I go upstairs, I need to be very calm and think about what to talk to the boys. Still a long tournament. We have to be positive."

Till 10 overs in the innings, we were talking about whether Kolkata Knight Riders would win inside 14.1 overs to go top of the table. And now, after 15.1 overs, a Yuzvendra Chahal 4-wicket haul and a Marco Jansen 3-wicket haul has done what many would naver have imagined - give PBKS their third win at this venue, their new home!
This was supposed to be a cakewalk for KKR, and they batted pretty well too! They did lose a couple of early wickets, but the partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi seemed like taking the team home. Then came that LBW case which wasn't, but Rahane did not review it. It gave Chahal his break to run through the middle-order!
This was a pretty good wicket to bat on, make no mistake! But, the batters were all over the shop! They played reckless shots, pressed the panic button way too early, and lost the plot! What should have been an easy chase, ended up being a loss of epic proportion!
As for PBKS, Shreyas Iyer's captaincy and the belief they had right through the innings shone through outstandingly! The fielding did let them down, but even after that, some inspired bowling performances did the trick and brought about an IPL classic!
PBKS go to 8 points now, surpassing KKR, who are on 6! And as for the men in purple and gold, from a position of going top of the ladder, they eventually lose the match and leave Punjab with lots to ponder over!
Andre Russell has been dismissed for 17 runs off 11 balls
15.1 Marco Jansen to Andre Russell, BOWLED! PBKS WIN! This is the lowest score defended successfully in the IPL. 140.5kph delivery banged in at back of a length. Russell cleared his front leg and heaved across the line, only to get an inside edge. The ball ricocheted onto the stumps, leaving them shattered.
