Commentary

It wasn’t a huge run chase for the Smashers but the Royals did a commendable job to take the game deep but in the end, the Smashers prevailed, winning the game by wickets and with deliveries to spare. P Sunil Kumar and Harendra Balaji started off the run chase. They needed to bat sensibly and try and find the gaps during the powerplay. However, it didn’t go according to plan as they lost the early wicket of Balaji.

Sivamurugan and Sunil Kumar couldn’t quite get going in the powerplay and were eventually dismissed for single-digit scores. The boundaries were few and far between and it looked the Royals would eke out a famous win. Sivakumar and Mathan joined hands and batted sensibly towards the final stage of the innings. They didn’t require anything fancy, just needed a few big shots and it was exactly what was provided by the duo.

Rajasekhar M pegged back the Smashers in the middle overs and got two back-to-back wickets with inswingers which tailed back in and rattled the stumps. The onus was now on Sivakumar and Mathan to take their side over the line. Both struck some lusty blows and scored at a good rate which eventually helped them chase down 82 on the final over of the game.

That's the end of the game. That was a great final over from Sakhtivel but 6 runs was way too less in the end as the Smashers win by 6 wickets. It was the fielding which let the Royals down. They bowled brilliantly but in the end, the Smashers held their nerves and managed to win in the final over. Their first victory of the tournament.

9.4 Sabari Sakthivel to Sivakumar S, OVERTHROWS! THE SMASHERS PREVAIL! Pitched up outside the off stump as Sivakumar dinks it towards mid-off and charges across for a risky single. A direct hit would have meant curtains but alas, the throw ends up errant and that allows the batters to take the second run that brings the curtains down on this contest. A dramatic finish and in the end, Smashers prevail by 6 wickets with 2 deliveries to spare!

Ravi Yadav started the over quite brilliantly and the pressure was building on the Smashers. They needed to find the boundaries when Ravi bowled to waist-high full tosses which went for bye singles. Just 6 more runs required off the final over.
