Rubgy CC won by 35 runs
Rugby CC 96/3 in 10 overs Dave Barley 46*(34) | Shaun Ainsworth 1/11
It was a tricky target for the Pirates and they needed a good start to get the flow going to their run-chase. The openers Lorne Burns and Christian Rocca got the side off to a good start, scoring 17 runs in the first 2 overs. However, Thomas Ramagge stemmed the run flow with a brilliant over, and was also followed by a sensational over from Nikhil Advani.
Rocca was castled by Advani and the required rate climbed steeply. Burns got three boundaries but was far from his best. He struggled his way to 23 off 20 deliveries before Nikhil Advani was trapped in front of the stumps and the umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger. The runs were just not coming as the spinners spun a web around the Pirates batter and they couldn’t quite find a way to play the big shots.
However much they tried, the boundaries literally dried up and despite the bowlers conceding several extras, the target was a mountain to steep to climb for the Pirates. Eventually, they could only muster in their allotted 10 overs, falling significantly short by 35 runs. The top scorer for Pirates was Lorne Burns who scored 23 off 20 while Nikhil Advani was the pick of the bowlers for Rugby CC, finishing with unreal figures of 2/4 in his two-over spell.
Earlier, the Rugby CC managed to post a competitive score of 96 in the board in their allotted and made sure they defend that comfortably The Pirates won the toss and put Rugby CC in. They were off to a great start in the powerplay, racing off to 35/0 in the first three overs. Dave Barley looked in great touch and played some delightful shots to move the scoreboard. The likes of Shaun Ainsworth and Richard Cunningham stemmed the run flow and despite keeping wickets in hands, they couldn’t quite accelerate the way they would have wanted.
The partnership of 59 runs came to an end in the 7th over when Iain Latin couldn’t quite get under a fuller-length delivery and was holed out at long-off. Barley also failed to get the big shots going and the pressure was building for them. Adetayo was dismissed early as he tries to swing across the line only to miss his stumps.
Dave Barley eventually managed to remain unbeaten on 46 off 34 deliveries. Nikhil Advani finished off the innings in style with a six which enabled Rugby CC to get close to the 100-run mark. Mark Garratt and Shaun Ainsworth bagged a wicket each for the Pirates.
A comfortable victory in the end for the Rugby CC. They struggled to get to 96 in their allotted 10 overs but their bowlers bounced back strongly to seal a convincing victory by 35 runs.

This is all going pear shaped for the Pirates. The Rugby CC has got their plans absolutely spot on. They are bowling very slow and the Pirates are staring down the barrel.
