Match summary: Belgrade beat Sir William Hoste Vis by 72 runs.
Mike Jones 87 (36) | Matija Sarenac 1/4 (1) Sam Houghton 25 (17) | Hylton Phillips 1/19 (2)
Dominance from start to finish as far as Belgrade are concerned. The only thing that didn't go their way was the toss but they had little to no reason to complain once the game got underway and Mike Jones powered them to a mammoth 150.
In response, three wickets in the first couple of overs immediately spelled doom for Sir William Hoste Vis. They just never got going and it was quite bizarre that Sam Houghton didn't come out to open the innings or bat at 3 given the steep mountain they had to climb. He came out batting positively but the bowlers were on the money too as they gave very little to work with.
Eventually, notwithstanding Houghton's dismissal for 25, the writing was on the wall for Hoste Vis. Veljko Popovic struggled and huffed and puffed to an unbeaten 18 and it was just a case of the players going through the motions as the asking rate reached unsurmountable proportions. The Belgrade bowlers did their bit without a fuss and while the only the complain could be the wides they sent down, they are looking in fine fettle as they soar to the top of the points table. It has gone from bad to worse though for Hoste Vis and are out of the reckoning now for a spot in the knockouts.
The chase never got going and the result was never in question. Belgrade win by 72 runs!
