Commentary

That's all for today's coverage of the second ODI between South Africa and Bangladesh. The series is now levelled at 1-1 and we are set for a decider on Wednesday. However, plenty of exciting cricket is going on around the corner with England and West Indies heading into another thriller day five. Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): My finger is a little uncomfortable, and I need to go for a scan. For us, resiliency is really important. Having said that, we need to start a series off well, and it's not a smart idea to do it with a match down. I'll approach it from the standpoint of resiliency. I was persuaded to bowl by the boys. Fortunately, the bowlers in front of us performed an excellent job, and we were not put under any unnecessary strain. The new ball may have been difficult, but Quinny (de Kock) had a different opinion. These are not the same circumstances as Centurion, which is far more accurate. We'll carry the momentum and confidence from this game into the last game.

Kagiso Rabada (Player of the Match): After the first wicket, it hit a crack and it bounced abruptly, so we always knew we were in the game. The Wanderers has been challenging in recent times, especially with the new ball. The cracks become less important as the ball becomes older and weaker. We pitched the ball in difficult locations, attempting to make the batters play as much as possible while exploiting the unpredictable bounce to our advantage. Each segment of the innings had a different game plan; the ball was gripping, so our seamers used the change of pace to get grip and bounce. Because no two batters are same, throwing the ball in the same spots was pointless. There are several factors to consider, but you must keep things simple. It's critical to strike a balance, and you should focus more on your tactics and energy.

Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh captain): We didn't expect this from the wicket. Uneven, that is hard to describe. Not taking anything away from SA. We would have applied ourselves better and got to 230-240 and then see what happens. If you see in the second innings, there was still a bit happening. We can make a lot of comments now, in hindsight. As I said during the toss, we don't have a lot of experience playing here. We go by a few things and stats suggest that batting first has won a lot of games here. We cannot just write of this game. We made mistakes and the opponents did well, that how we ended up in this situation. We know it's their strength to come out hard in the first 10 overs. (Rabada and Ngidi) Both of them are quality bowlers. We just need to handle them in that phase and then the scoring opportunities will come, when we can hurt them. The first 10 overs will be key. Two young guys, we were struggling quite badly at one sage. 100 was looking difficult but we somehow managed to score 190. Afif again, Miraz too, some positives. It's hard to describe a game like this. I can blame the wicket or other factors but we have to take the blame. We would have applied ourselves a little better. (On QdK) We all know about him. We've played before. He's going to come out and take his chances. Somedays it'll work for him and some days it won't. If they're chasing 250 and he gets out looking to play some shots, we'llbe pretty happy.

South Africa - 195/3 in 37.2 overs ( de Kock 62 off 41, Verreynne 58* off 77. Afif 1/15, Shakib 1/33) beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets and with 76 balls to spare.

What a win, what a win for South Africa! After suffering a shocker of the loss in the first ODI, they have come out on top here and defeated Bangladesh comprehensively. They were asked to bowl first by the visitors and they responded strongly with an exceptional bowling performance. Bangladesh were outplayed in all three departments.

Chasing 195, South Africa were always going to be the absolute favourites. But they didn't just chase down the total, they made a statement that the new South African side cannot be kept at bay for a long time. Quinton de Kock dismantled their bowling attack and took all the bowlers for cleaners while his partner Janneman Malan just played second fiddle to him.

Shakib and Mehidy the spin twins got rid of both openers in quick successions but that also led to the formation of another good partnership. Bavuma and Verreynne added 82 runs for the third wicket and made sure that their side had no more issues in chasing down the total. The pacers had a forgettable outing, despite the availability of variable bounce, they couldn't make the most of it as the South African batters feasted on them.
