It's the mother of all battles - India versus Pakistan - at this very venue. He absolutely fired those rockets today to have the Lankan batters hopping around. Fazalhaq Farooqi's swift start to his international career has seen another page added to it and if the wickets in the Emirates continue to wear a green tinge like it did today, he's bound to have a ball in the games to come as well. Afghanistan have got off to the perfect start with what they would call the 'perfect game'. Sri Lanka must win their next clash against Bangladesh, else they will have to pack their bags without qualifying for the Super Four. Loads to ponder over for Dasun Shanaka and Co.

Fazalhaq Farooqi is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: Firstly, I would like to dedicate this to my country. The win means a lot to us as a nation and it's a big win for us. (About the pitch and plans) Kept my plans simple to make the most of the conditions. With the new ball, I'm trying to bowl at a good length and make the most of the conditions. At the death, I know I can rely on my skills to do the job for my side whenever required.

Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan Captain): The boys played really well. Farooqi was brilliant on a pitch that offered something. We discussed in the meeting that we had to bowl with the right line and lengths, and we got the reward for it. They (the openers) played really well and that gave confidence to the team as well. That keeps the morale up of the team.

Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): (Would it have been easier had they bowled first?) There are two ways of thinking of it. I think our batters should bat well on any kind of wicket on the tournament. It would have been a lot easier then while bowling. We had two youngsters on debut. There was a bit of grass cover on the wicket and it wasn't helpful for them (spinners) but they are two world-class spinners (Hasaranga and Theekshana). In T20 cricket such things happen. If we can bounce back and win the next game hopefully we can qualify for the Super Four.

Hazratullah Zazai: The way our bowlers bowled it was brilliant. The target was gettable for our batting lineup and we thought the sooner we chase it the better for us ahead of the next game. My and Gurbaz have a good understanding. We were encouraging each other while we were out there. The team is performing well, we have a good bowling and batting unit. Hopefully we will go all the way.

Well, that was one of the most one-sided contests we've seen in the shortest format. Sri Lanka got off to a horror start with the bat and could never really recover from it. Bhanuka Rajapaksa's performance with the bat was the only positive for the side, if any. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the standout for Afghanistan with the ball, while others chipped in as well.

Chamika Karunaratne's rescue act saved his side from some real embarrassment, probably giving them a bit of hope as well. That though, was diminished rather quickly by the onslaught by the Afghanistan openers, who had a mockery of this run chase.

Gurbaz and Zazai motored along in the powerplay with the former at the forefront of it. The Gurbaz's power-packed 40 was enough to help his side finish most of the job in the powerplay itself. Zazai showed his experience as he stuck around till the end to kickstart Afghanistan's campaign with a comprehensive win.

As for Sri Lanka, this is their second-heaviest defeat in terms of balls remaining. The young side were blown away and didn't really have any answers to the questions Nabi's side posed. They'll have to dust this one off quickly if they are to keep their tournament alive. A massive advantage in terms of net run rate, as far as Afghanistan are concerned. 10.1 Charith Asalanka to Najibullah Zadran, STREAKY! But that'll do the job for Afghanistan! Fired in full on leg stump and Najib backs away and swings with gay abandon. Off the inside edge and it beats everything to trickle down as short fine leg catches up. That's enough for the batters to complete the winning run and it's been an obliteration of the highest order inflicted on Dasun Shanaka and Co. Afghanistan romp home by 8 wickets with 59 deliveries to spare!

Very sharp athleticism from Theekshana - on a good length at the stumps from around the wicket and Zazai is cramped for room even as he rocks back to keep it out along the pitch. Theekshana dives to his left and gets his palms to it before it deflects onto the stumps at his end, with Zadran wandering out of his crease.

No wonder Zadran walked off without waiting for the TV umpire's decision. He was a couple of yards out of his crease and was run out even before he could think of grounding his bat. Sri Lanka have their second. OUT!
