So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj and my co-commentator, Lavil Saldanha. Do stay tuned to our coverage with a lot more games lined up tomorrow as well. Until next, it is a warm good-bye from us.
Rovman Powell (West Indies captain): It is always important to take an early lead when you come to Sri Lanka. The toss will always be vital. (Playing an attacking brand of cricket with youngsters in the squad) Definitely, we have the belief that individual performances win T20 games. I am trying to spread that belief in the team. (The aggressive opening partnership) It was spontaneous. Both of them played their natural game. If you are a power hitter, you hit sixes. If you anchor, you rotate the strike
Charith Asalanka (captain, Sri Lanka): It was more about good shots from their batters than bad bowling so credit to them for that. I am planning to start with Pathirana in the next couple of games and experimenting a few things. The plus is that we are playing good cricket, we have to do well and start bowling well in the powerplay.
Brandon King (Player of the Match) My role is to get the team off to a good start. (Recovering from injury) It is more mental than anything at this point. (Reason for the aggressive opening stand-Target or conditions) A bit of both. The pitch was good and chasing a score like 180, you need a good start. Our role as openers was clear.
MATCH OVER!
West Indies won by five wickets!
Sri Lanka 179/7 (20) West Indies 180/5 (19.1)
Brandon King 63 (33) | Evin Lewis 50 (28) Matheesha Pathirana 3.1-0-27-2 | Kamindu Mendis 2-0-14-1
So, a rather close win in the end for the West Indies as they register a five-wicket victory. Chasing 180 for victory, the opening duo of Brandon King and Evin Lewis smacked the Sri Lankan attack to all parts of Dambulla. The West Indies went onto complete the Powerplay with a score at 74-0. The duo continued to pulverize the bowlers and got to their respective fifties. Sri Lanka looked out of ideas but they eventually broke the 107-run partnership in the 10th over as Matheesha Pathirana deceived Lewis with a superb slower delivery. The batting side started to collapse after that as Wanindu Hasaranga took a simple return catch off Shai Hope while Kamindu Mendis forced a miscued shot off King.
From there, the pair of Roston Chase and captain Rovman Powell decided to rotate the strike for a while. However, Rovman never got going and ended up holing out to long-on off Maheesh Theekshana’s bowling in the 17th over. In the next over, Pathirana had Chase caught behind as he gave Sri Lanka a small chance. The visitors managed to take nine runs off the penultimate over as they required four off the final six balls. Sherfane Rutherford ended up scoring a boundary off the very first ball as he helped the team seal the game with five balls to spare.
19.1 Matheesha Pathirana to Sherfane Rutherford, FOUR! WEST INDIES WIN! Slower one on the leg stump, Rutherford hits that one high and handsome over the man at extra cover inside the circle and it goes one bounce and over the fence for a boundary
Nine runs off the over. So, the West Indies need four runs off the final over which will obviously be bowled by Matheesha Pathirana. The task has become harder for Sri Lanka as the over-rate penalty has been applied. one extra fielder has to be up in the ring.

18.3 Asitha Fernando to Sherfane Rutherford, full toss on the middle and off stump. Rutherford hits that one down the ground and runs hard between the wickets for a brace. An exhibition of running between the wicket here from Rutherford and Shepherd

18.1 Asitha Fernando to Sherfane Rutherford, full and outside the off stump. Rutherford throws his bat to that one but Kamindu dives and saves a couple of runs for his side

Romario Shepherd, RHB, is into the middle
Edged and taken. Matheesha Pathirana, the death overs specialist is keeping Sri Lanka in the hunt. Roston Chase will be gutted to not see the chase off!
