Thank you for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick and Pradeep- for this exciting game in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup between Sri Lanka and Australia! We hope you enjoyed it. Until next time, goodbye!
Meg Lanning (Australia captain): It was a great game today. Our bowlers came in well and did really well. Very happy with Grace Harris, she did not get a lot of opportunities earlier in the tournament, and made the most of the opportunity today. The conditions are always going to be different, but we need to be able to adapt as quickly as we can. We have had a lot of fun so far. Playing against South Africa will be a good challenge. It's great to have so many people watching us. Hopefully, we can inspire some of them to follow their dreams.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka captain): Definitely, we had to score 150 plus on this wicket, we know what Australia are capable of and is the main reason we've lost the game. We tried our best in the powerplay, we didn't execute our plans with the bat. Both Healy and Mooney executed their plans well against the spinners, we had to bowl in the right areas, pick up the opportunities. We have a pretty good chance to chase the history, not much pressure, just go out there and express ourselves.
Alyssa Healy has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here's what she has to say: Tough going at time, nice to get going and pick up the crucial two points. We complement one another, the left right combination really helps. Nice and green, ready for the South African bowlers, wicket played really well, it turned a bit and we've been lucky to chase really well on a tricky surface. We've got the likes of Jess Jonassen, just talks about the bench strength we have, even Grace Harris got the opportunity, taken wickets, has been impressive.
Australia coasted to a comfortable win over Sri Lanka here at St George’s Park today. They were much stronger than their opponents and ensured that the latter were reminded of the fact time and again. Their openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney both made sizeable contributions to chase this total down, and it will give them a lot of confidence.
Skipper Meg Lanning will be proud of her side’s exploits on the field. Earlier in the day, the Australian bowlers ensured that Sri Lanka did not get to a massive total. Grace Harris was their star with the ball in hand, assisted ably by the likes of Megan Schutt, Ellyse Perry and Georgia Wareham.
Schutt ended with four wickets by the end of the evening. Australia virtually steamrolled Sri Lanka today, and gave off warning signs for their opponents to come in this tournament. The defending champions truly played like defending champions.
Healy and Mooney ensure a ten-wicket win for Australia!
15.5 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Alyssa Healy, THAT'S IT! Australia thump Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, make this three out of three now and they are very well on their way for the title defense here. Healy down the track, whipped it down to long-on for a single to seal the game.
15.4 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Beth Mooney, length delivery on the off-stump, Mooney leans and whips it around mid-on, fielder does brilliantly to stop with a dive. Scores are level now!
15.3 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Alyssa Healy, was short and wide of off-stump, Healy reaches and bunted it to extra-cover for a quick single.
15.2 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Beth Mooney, drops it short into Mooney on the middle and leg, swipes it behind square for one.
Just four runs are needed now!
15.1 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Beth Mooney, FOUR! SHOT! Shimmies down the track for the length delivery, width for Mooney as she spanked it over the top of mid-off, goes one bounce into the fence for a boundary. Just four needed now!
16th fifty for Beth Mooney in T20Is- this will give her a lot of confidence. She was struggling for form coming into this competition but has put all of those concerns to rest.
