So, it has been decided to call off Match 5. So, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders will share one point. The rain hasn't relented and we have had to come up to this disappointing conclusion. However, do stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the coverage of a lot more matches including three CPL matches on Sunday. Until then, it is good bye from myself, Karthik Raj and my co-commentator, Aryasekhar Chakraborty!
Just when the players were warming up and we were about to start, the rain has returned yet again and out comes the covers for yet another time.
Oh! Damn! It has started to lash down at Basseterre and we are going to have a delay once again!
Keiron Pollard: "Obviously, in rain-truncated matches, it is usual to chase. We still have to go out and assess the conditions. Three changes for us. Ravi Rampaul, Terrence Hinds and Khary Pierre are in for Shaaron Lewis, Jayden Seales and Akeal Hosein."
Dwayne Bravo: "We are going to bowl first. Only in the field, if he take our catches. As the saying goes, catches win matches. These things happen in cricket. Important to stick to the basics."
Toss Update: St Kitts and Patriots have won the toss and elected to bowl
The match has been reduced to a 12-over a side affair. At last, we are set to have a game
Finally, we have got confirmation about the match. It will start at 7.15 AM IST. We are yet to receive information about the number of overs to be played!
Ah! Bad news! Just when the teams started to warm-up, the rain has returned and the covers are being brought back!
The cut-off time for a full 40-over contest was 5.39 AM IST. We have passed that and the toss hasn't taken place yet. So, we can definitely expect a reduction in the overs!
Good news is that the rain has stopped. The super-sopper is being used to dry the wet covers. The covers may be taken off very soon
Looks like it has started to rain in Basseterre. The square has been covered and there are further covers being brought on by the groundsmen!
4:10 IST, 6:40 PM local time- We have a delay in the toss at the moment as the women's game is still underway. We will be updating you on the toss update and provide the team sheets as soon as it's available.
The defending champions, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have had a poor start to the season with two consecutive losses. After going down against Jamaica Tallawahs, the Patriots suffered a seven-wicket loss against Barbados Royals in a rain-affected contest on Friday. The bowling attack, in particular, has been really ineffective while Andre Fletcher and Sherfane Rutherford are also the only two batsmen to look in good touch so far.
Moving onto the favourites Trinbago Knight Riders, the Keiron Pollard-led side sneaked a three-wicket win past Saint Lucia Kings in their opening contest. Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine and Anderson Phillip starred with the ball as Saint Lucia managed to post only 143/9. The chase didn't prove to be straight-forward though as TKR lost Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran. The duo of Tion Webster and Tim Seifert steadied the ship with 81-run partnership. However, the chasing side collapsed after Webster got out in the 13th over. In the end, Anderson Phillip struck a six in the final over to help TKR get over the line in a thrilling game.
