That will be all for today's coverage. Thank you for tuning into Sportskeeda for the live coverage of today's fixture between MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. We will be back tomorrow for the doubleheader as Paarl Royals take on Durban Super Giants and the Pretoria Capitals lock horns with Joburg Super Kings. Do not forget to tune in, until then it's Raghav and Navjeevan signing off!
Aiden Markram(Player of the match and the skipper of Sunrisers Eastern Cape): Yeah it's a big relief to be on the board finally. We made it a little tough for ourselves but managed to get over the line. Was gutted to not stay till the end, all the best players in the world stay till the end to get the job done. Still have work to do there. Stubbs and Marco did a great job taking us home. I was a bit nervous, sitting in the dugout and just being helpless. I think the bowlers did a great job, 160 was pretty much the par score and if we compare it to our previous games, it has been an improvement.
MI Cape Town skipper Rashid Khan: Well ahh it was a close game since we lost the toss, we were 15-20 runs short with the bat. With the ball, the bowlers did well, we kept it tight. All the players did a wonderful job but we just came on the losing side. As a player, it is important that everyone knows their role. It's crucial that we are relaxed, well-prepared, and come back stronger in the next game. We were on the losing side but I think we did well overall tonight.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape 162/6 (19.3 overs) beat MI Cape Town by 5 wickets and with 3 balls to spare
Aiden Markram 50(35) | Odean Smith 3/23 (2.3) Sarel Erwee 41 (35) | Sam Curran 2/37 (4)
What a win, what a win for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape! They get their first win of the tournament and move to fifth place in the table. Chasing 159, they were off to a terrible start with both openers departing within the first three overs. Sam Curran's new ball spell alongside quality support from Rabada was terrorizing the Sunrisers.
Erwee and Markram picked up the innings from there. They started scoring at a decent pace and made use of the remaining powerplay overs. The duo slowed down a bit against the spin twins Rashid and Linde but once Stone was back into the attack, the shackles were broken and the pair showed intent against Linde as well.
Rashid broke the partnership and Odean followed it up with a double-wicket over. The game was evenly poised again with two new men at the crease but Stubbs and Jansen batted cleverly together to take the side home. Stubbs taking on the seamers at the death made it possible for the Eastern Cape. He couldn't finish it off but he did enough for Fuller to come in and add the final touch.
Stay tuned for presentation...
19.3 Odean Smith to James Fuller, WINNING RUNS! Slower ball on the length just outside off. Fuller waits back and swats this over mid-wicket and the ball trickles away to the fences. The Sunrisers win and the home crowd goes wild!
The field comes in.
Fuller finds the gap! That's a fine stroke from the number 8 and surely Eastern Cape are home now. Scores level with four balls to go.
19.2 Odean Smith to James Fuller, THE SCORES ARE TIED! Length ball wide outside off. Fuller waits back and slaps this away this away through wide mid-off and the ball races away to the fences.
James Fuller, RHB, comes to the crease
Well, well. Is there a twist in the tail now? The back of a length delivery does the trick again for Smith. Stubbs is furious with himself as he leaves the field while punching his bat.
19.1 Odean Smith to Tristian Stubbs, APPEAL FOR CAUGHT BEHIND AND STUBBS WALKS OFF! SMITH STRIKES AGAIN! Back of a length delivery zipping in. Stubbs tries to pull this across the line but gets a faint under edge that carries through to the keeper who pouches the ball.
Tristan Stubbs c Grant Roelofsen b Odean Smith 30 (18b, 2x4, 1x6)
Only 5 runs are needed off the final over. Stubbs turned the whole game on its head when the wickets kept falling. Odean Smith will bowl the final over and Stubbs is on strike. MICT need a miracle here.
