Global T20 Canada 2023 was a success and in the end, it was the Montreal Tigers who lifts the title as Chris Lynn has been handed over the trophy. The celebreations will go on late in the night and what a match for the fans to witness in the final. The tournament wasn't a high scoring one which we usually see in T20 tournaments but the low scoring thrillers did provide entertainment for the fans back home. Finally Andre Russell finishing it off with a massive six was the icing on the cake. Like always it was a pleasure, bringing all the live action from this encounter. Sporting action continues tomorrow with several T10 matches linep up along with the Lanka Premier League. For now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Karthik Raj. Goodnight! Cheers!
Chris Lynn (Montreal Tigers captain): Just to play in the final was great. To go three days in a row and two absolute thrillers, it was absolutely fantastic. So proud of the eyes. They were expectional not only on the field but off the field as well. We had a couple of hurdles here and there. I apologise to Dipendra for retiring him but we had to bring on Russell in that crunch situation. Guys might haven't got a ball haven't got a bat but the energy has been contagious. Yeah absolutely loved the tournament. I would love to be back here. It's great to win a tournament. Where the league is going, I will definitely hope to come back. Thankyou to everyone for coming up. The supporters have been fantastic. It is growing levels. The standard of cricket has gone through the roofs. The overseas players cancels each other out and it is all about the local players to be honest who makes the difference.
Time for the winning team to collect the medals. Chris Lynn being asked to invite his team for the medals.
Iftikhar Ahmed (Surrey Jaguars captain): Wonderful tournament. Was a good experience for the overseas players as well as the Canadian ones. All the teams played good cricket and the tournament was at a high level. I thought we had enough runs on the board. Few decisions with the ball didn't go our way but I congratulate the opposition and also our team
Iftikhar Ahmed being handed over the runners-up cheque.
Sherfane Rutherford gets a trophy and a cheque for the Dean Jones Man of the Series. He also gets a 1/2 acre land in USA. Here is what he had to say: My 4th cheque of the day. Its been a good tournament for me. This has given me a lot of confidence. My hard work has paid off. I have been known for hitting the ball but I also work on batting properly as I bat at No 4. In life there is challenges, in cricket there is challenges and I look forward to these sort of moments.
Harsh Thaker wins the trophy and a cheque for the Emerging Canadian Player.
Matthew Forde and Junaid Siddiqui will get a trophy and an cheque for taking most wickets.
Chris Lynn gets a trophy and a cheque for scoring most runs in the tournament.
Time for the awards to be presented to the match officials and the referees. Lots of awards to be presented to Sherfane Rutherford. Fan of the match and the season being presented as well.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony with Niall O'Brien.
Srimantha Wijeratne: It was unbelievable. We were way behind in the win predictor and we knew we had the players to take us home. It looks like Sherfane likes playing in Canada. Andre has been exceptional since he has joined the side. Nice way to start off the 3 years as a Canada player after rubbing shoulders with some of the greats. As soon as we got off the flight, we played a practice game which didn't go our way. It's a family-oriented, close knit group. We knew each other pretty well. Not too hard to get the group together. My hands got a pounding in the last couple of games. It was tough but I was just staying in the game. Good learning experience for sure entering the 3 year cycle
Montreal Tigers won by 5 wickets (on the final delivery)
It was a horrendous start for the Montreal Tigers as they lost Muhammad Waseem in the opening over. Spencer Johnson was right on the money and Waseem couldn't make full use of the reprieve he got on the very first delivery. Chris Lynn and Srimantha Wijeratne struggled out in the middle bit did find the occasional boundaries. Lynn struck a four and a six off Ammar Khalid but overall it was a struggle to say the least. The spinners were ruthless in the middle overs and didn't allow any batter to get away.
Wijeratne was eventually dismissed by Ayaan Khan after a good partnership with Lynn. The introduction of Iftikhar Ahmed turned the game on its head as he got the prized wicket of Lynn and the other set batter Dipendra Singh Airee in his 2nd over. He finished his full quota and ended with unreal figures of 2/8 in 4 overs. The pressure was building with Sherfane Rutherford and Dipendra Singh Airee failing to find the boundaries. Rutherford finally managed to get a boundary away before a tactical move saw him getting retired in favour of Andre Russell.
Rutherford was just coming onto his own and struck a six off the final delivery of the 18th over. Russell muscled his very first delivery for a boundary and then smashed a couple of lusty blows to finish it off for the Montreal Tigers. 13 runs were required of the final over and it came down to 2 required of the last ball and Russell literally thumped the short one over the deep square leg fence.
What a blow from Andre Russell to end this game. Russell being lifted by Carlos Brathwaite and the celebrations will go on all night. What a match and the Montreal Tigers will be delighted with the victory. Russell hugging all his teammates here and the party will go on

19.6 Ammar Khalid to Andre Russell, PUMMELED! WHAT A WIN TO WIN THE GT20 CANADA! Slower delivery on a length, Russell waits and massacres it way over deep mid-wicket to help the Tigers lift the title! Special scenes as the entire team runs out onto the middle!
19.5 Ammar Khalid to Andre Russell, short of a length and slow outside-off, Russell heaves it to the right of deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs. Two needed off 1 ball now!
This is getting tense and the skipper Iftikhar having a word with his bowler. 4 needed off the last 2.
19.4 Ammar Khalid to Sherfane Rutherford, full and angling away, Rutherford tries to slog but he can only manage an inside-edge behind square. Single taken
19.3 Ammar Khalid to Andre Russell, length delivery angling in, Russell looks to work it to the leg-side but he doesn't connect. Leg-bye taken with the ball rolling to short third
