The absolute scenes at the ground. Not many gave Gozo Zalmi a chance to overcome Swieqi United in this game but they've done the impossible. United's winning streak is put to an end and it's happened at the worst possible time for them. They're knocked out of the tournament and will have to settle for third place, if at all, when they come up against the Royal Strikers later today.
It's all about Gozo Zalmi and their side though. They were a one-man show with the bat with Mehboob Ali making sure they post a good total on the board. The bowlers were superb throughout, with Shakir Afridi leading the way with his four-wicket haul. After the openers were dismissed cheaply, he bagged three wickets in his first over to completely dismantle this United middle order.
Mehboob Ali, Fazil Rahman, and Fawab Afridi kept contributing too to finish up the rest of the job and restrict Sweiqi United to a miserly total of 62. So, the finals are set up with Gozo Zalmi going up against the Southern Crusaders later today. Before that, Sweiqi United will take on Royal Strikers in the bronze final.
Umar Khan is injured and won't walk out to bat, so that will be that. After being unbeaten throughout the tournament, United have stumbled at the last hurdle and how.
