MATCH SUMMARY: Sydney Sixers - 197 for 5 in their 20 overs, batting first; Daniel Hughes 66 (48) Sydney Thunder - 137 for 9 in their 20 overs, batting second; Chris Green 50 (31) Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunder by 60 runs and also take the Bash Boost point
It was set up for a wonderful match at the SCG but in the end, it was one-way traffic for the Sydney Sixers as they finished the match comprehensively and brought up their 8th win of the campaign by doing the double over their city rivals. They now edge past the Sydney Thunder into 2nd place in the standings.
Set a target of 198, the Sydney Thunder began promisingly with Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales. Even with the fall of Gilkes' wicket, the partnership of Hales & Jason Sangha was going strong, but with the fall of Hales' wicket, it all went downhill for the green side of Sydney!
Stephen O' Keefe, the deserving Player of the Match, was the wrecker-in-chief for the Sydney Sixers as he broke the back of the Sydney Thunder batting, finishing with figures of 4 for 18 in his 4 overs! After returning from injury, this performance from the veteran left-arm spinner will surely give the pink side of Sydney a massive boost!
The rest of the Sydney Sixers bowling was good too as O' Keefe's performance got well backed-up.
As for the Thunder, Chris Green, the captain for today, put up some resistance with the bat, scoring 50 off 31 balls but at a time when the game was almost gone for his team.
Earlier, in the 1st innings, it was Josh Philippe (57 off 35), along with, Daniel Hughes (top scoring with 66 off 48), who batted beautifully to take charge of proceedings, after a good start with the ball for the Thunder. Then, Moises Henriques, the skipper of the Sixers, added a crucial 47 runs off 27 balls to set up a healthy total for the men in pink.
Mohamman Hasnain's last match for the Thunder was a good one as he was economical but he could not get a breakthrough. The rest of the Thunder bowling was not quite up to the mark.
It was a pleasure bringing the coverage to you! That is all from the Big Bash for today, but stay tuned, there is more action to come from Down Under as far as the BBL is concerned as we are heading towards the business end of the tournament! From Navjeevan Rajput & me, Bidipto, it is good bye for now! Keep following Sportskeeda!
And that is that! A thumping win for the Sydney Sixers over the Sydney Thunder by 60 runs!
