That's it from the first match of the Friendship series between Afghanistan and UAE. Afghanistan are 1-0 in the 3 match series, this is me, Divyansh signing off on behalf of my partner, Karthik. Goodnight.
Karim Janat is the player of the match, here's what he has to say: Captain trusted me in the middle order, so I just went out and did my job. It's a bit difficult with doing all the stuff, batting, bowling and fielding but you give your best for the team.
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan skipper: It was about keeping it simple. There are still areas where we have to improve a lot. But this is just the start in our preparation for the next T20 WC. Happy with how the youngsters, Afsar Zazai and Karim Janat played. Those middle-order spots, four, five and six are crucial in T20 cricket as you want to take the game deep.
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
CP Rizwan, UAE skipper: Yes, definitely. We had our moments. If we posted 10-15 runs more and took the half-chances, it would have been different. They bowled well initially. The match went to the last over which is testament of our bowling. They had a good partnership in between. If we grabbed the half chances, could have been better but still proud of the effort
Afghanistan chase this down comfortably in the end, as expected. A good fight from UAE but they were always going to be 10-20 runs short.
They started off well with the ball, got early wickets as they had Afghanistan in trouble at 48/3 in the 7th over. But after that they let Janat and Zazai build a partnership.
Karim Janat changed the game completely with his half century and a match winnings innings. Zazai played well alongside him but missed out on his half century. Janat changed the game in the 11th over as he started the onslaught against Mustafa and hit 2 sixes in it.
The bowlers tried their best, as Siddique took 2 wickets, with Zahoor, Jawadullah and Farid got one each. They did not have the runs to defend to start with.
Afghanistan go up 1-0 in this 3 match series.
19.1 Basil Hameed to Najibullah Zadran, dragged down by Basil, Najibullah swings it over mid-on for a boundary. FOUR!! He finishes off in style as Afghanistan seal a five-wicket victory with five balls to spare too!
Basil Hameed, right arm off break, comes into the attack.
We get another over with just 1 run required to win. Karim Janat got out in the over while trying to hit a winning six.
