Alright then, UAE came very close knocking the door of a famous victory over New Zealand, but the visitors showed why they are one of the superior side in the world. Join us for more cricketing action tomorrow, until next time, this has been Pradeep along with Abhishek, signing off. Stay safe and take care!
Tim Southee is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: Was a good game of cricket, we kind of expected that from UAE, they are a growing side and showed it tonight. Number of players playing different cricket around the world, we knew it's going to be hot and we needed to quickly adapt, couple of days training and get used to the conditions. They're a quality side, they're improving and we've seen in the ILT, youngsters coming in here and playing with freedom. There's number of moving parts, people coming and going, in these sort of conditions and surfaces similar to like in India, it's only a good thing.
Mohammad Waseem [UAE captain]: It's an honor to play against New Zealand, but didn't quite pull off a win as we were close to a victory. We have to take deep, we lost early wickets and many in the middle overs. I'm very happy with the performance today, we can take the confidence from here and try to win in the next game.
New Zealand win by 19 runs!
Aryansh Sharma - 60 (43b) | Tim Southee - 5/25 Ali Naseer - 16 (14b) | James Neesham - 2/15
UAE were in touching distance of pulling off an upset but lost their footing in the last three overs. Just like New Zealand, UAE lost a wicket in their very first ball with Muhammad Waseem getting trapped in his legs. Southee would go on to take the wicket of Vriitya Aravind in his next over as he smacked two boundaries but was able to notch only 13 runs in total.
The 47 run partnership for the third wicket allowed UAE to believe for a win as Aryansh Sharma and smacked boundaries all over the park in the powerplay. Asif Khan and Ansh Tandon played the role of the anchor nicely as Aryansh got his half-century in his debut.
Southee came back into the attack and dismissed Aayan Khan. Aryansh lost his wicket at 60 as James Neesham got his wicket. UAE were ahead of New Zealand till the 18th over. But, unlike the blitzkrieg of the away side who notched 25 runs in the final two overs, UAE could pull only 4 runs and lost the last three wickets in the process.
If it were not for Tim Southee's heroics, UAE would have pulled this win quite comfortably. The only other mistake they made was not to push hard for quick singles and couples. They kept on aiming for the boundaries and did not focus on finding the gaps in the long Dubai ground. Small margins but that is T20 cricket for you.
19.4 Kyle Jamieson to Mohammed Faraazuddin, OUT! IT'S ALL OVER! Absolute capitulation this from the UAE, a golden chance of pulling off something remarkable goes begging for them. Back of a length on the stumps, Faraazuddin swings across the line but has skied it and Southee fittingly takes a good catch at cover point.
20 needed to win off 3 now.
19.3 Kyle Jamieson to Mohammed Faraazuddin, back of a length over the off-stump, Faraazuddin has a big swing across the line and makes no connection again.
19.2 Kyle Jamieson to Zahoor Khan, bangs in the short delivery over the batter's head on the leg-stump, Zahoor has a wild swing and a miss but they steal a bye!
19.1 Kyle Jamieson to Mohammed Faraazuddin, back of a length on the middle and off, Faraazuddin walks across off-stump to ramp, gets enough bat to send it past the diving keeper, they pick up a single as Faraazuddin slips!
Kyle Jamieson [2-0-19-0] to bowl the final over.
Tim Southee's five wicket haul bails New Zealand. The man has struck in all his overs. If not for him, UAE could have dreamed for an upset.
