Commentary

What an incredible end to what turned out to be a hard fought Test series. The two teams will share the trophy. Bangladesh made a great comeback after a below par performance in the first two days and have levelled the series 1-1. Like always it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Till the next time, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) biding adieu.

Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies captain): Being positive was very important in the chase. We started well but couldn't quite carry on. Not at the level we want to be. The guys need more games. Its important to learn as you play and sticking to the plans. The execution could have been a lot better especially in the batting department. Yeah I think it's something we always discuss and have to be done as well. We have to change our mindset and work on that. Once we execute better, we will be in good stead. Still a lot of positives. Greaves getting to his maiden century and then how Jayden bowled. It's about consistency in the batting group. We have the talent but we have to execute better.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh captain): Yeah definitely it's a great feeling. We have played so many years of Test cricket. We have to improve day by day and I am very happy with this performance. We are always taking about how to win the game. In the first innings we just got 164 but the boys bowled really well. The way Nahid bowled in the first innings. Taijul was excellent in the second innings. He is a great bowler and has been a match winner for us. It's all about the process. We have so many fast bowlers. We think about how to improve in the international cricket. We will try to learn quickly.

Jayden Seales (Player of the Series): Being consistent for long periods of time was something I was working on and it worked off in the series. Yeah Test cricket is tough and you have to have fun. It's about getting the momentum and confidence going forward.

Taskin Ahmed (Player of the Series): Yeah I am really happy for this win. I had a bad shoulder in the last two years so it wasn't easy to get back. Hopefully many more to come. You know especially last three years that our fast bowlers have been improving gradually. Working really hard and because of that the process helping us getting better and better. Hopefully we will get more fast bowlers in the future.

Taijul Islam (Player of the Match): Obviously these conditions were different so it's a big thing to get a victory on conditions not familiar to us. It was challenging conditions, we didn't have enough time for preparation and all the boys did a great effort. The pace and the spin attack has been playing for a while. The fast bowlers have been delivering for the last five six years and we have the ability to challenge any team on our day.

It turned out to be a stunning comeback from Bangladesh as they registered a comprehensive 101-run victory in the second Test at the Sabina Park in Jamaica to level the two-match series 1-1. This was Bangladesh’s first Test win in the West Indies since 2009.

The Bangladesh players look very animated and why shouldn't they. They will be proud of how they managed to make a superb comeback and end up leveling the series. It was a pretty bold decision from Mehidy Hasan Miraz to win the toss and bat. Bangladesh were put under early pressure and couldn't quite recover from the early blows.

They were bowled out for a paltry 164 and it looked West Indies would continue their dominance against Bangladesh at home. West Indies were pretty comfortably placed at 85/1 when speedster Nahid Rana who is Bangladesh’s only express fast bowler made a big impression by bagging his maiden fifer. He absolutely rattled the West Indies middle order and helped Bangladesh gain an unlikely lead of 18 runs.

They batted much better in the second innings. Jaker Ali batted out of his skin and ended up scoring a match-winning 91. He had to bat with the tail enders but took responsibility with both hands and delivered. West Indies lost their first wicket in the form of Mikyle Louis at the stroke of lunch. The hosts then went onto score 110 runs in the second session, losing three wickets in the process.

Kavem Hodge was still out in the middle and looked in great touch. However, Taijul Islam continued to weave his magic as he sent back Hodge and Joshua Da Silva in quick succession to break the game open. Taskin Ahmed then came back to dismiss Justin Greaves and there was no coming back for the hosts. Hasan Mahmud then bagged a couple in his comeback over before Nahid finished off proceedings with the wicket of Shamar Joseph.

Nahid goes for the full one, Shamar was again excepting the short one. Clears his front leg and tries to play the big shot, misses it altogether and the ball slams into the base of the middle stump. Bangladesh win by 101 runs.

49.5 Nahid Rana to Shamar Joseph, FOUR! Finally manages to get the contact he was after, Shamar backs away and pulls away the short of a length delivery following Shamar, down towards the midwicket boundary. Shamar will go down fighting here.

48.5 Hasan Mahmud to Kemar Roach, WICKET! That looked a tad on the higher side but after much deliberation, umpire Kumar Dharmasena has raised his finger. That was a back of a length delivery pitching around off and middle and jags back in sharply, Roach was hurried there as he brought the bat down a bit late. The ball strikes him on the front pad.

Clearly no bat involved and the ball tracking confirms that it's umpire's call on hitting and Kemar Roach has to take the long walk back to the pavilion. Bangladesh on the cusp of a famous win here.
