Zagreb Sokol beat Ljubljana by 5 wickets. Wasal Kamal 48* (32) | Waqar Khan 2/8 Rasheed Ali Mamadkhel 45 (26) | Ghani Khan 2/26
Absolute drama here at the Budenec Oval! Needing four to win, Zagreb Sokol’s Wasal Kamal hit a six off the last ball of the match to do it for his side. Zagreb Sokol tried their best to chase this total down, but the fall of wickets at regular intervals derailed them a little from their cause. However, before going into their batting failure, we need to harp about the poor fielding performance that they put up earlier in the day. If they had managed to do a little better in the field, they would have had to chase lesser than what they were doing now. Their batters too let them down, right from their openers to skipper Aman Maheshwari, from whom a lot was expected.
But then, up stepped Sohail Ahmad to take on the best of the Ljubljana bowlers- Mirwais Shinwari. He hammered him in the ninth over and tilted the balance in his side’s favour. Requiring about a run a ball from now, Zagreb Sokol did not falter, and were home just in time. Ljubljana, who seemed like being in the driving seat all this while, were left nursing sore hearts. Sohail Ahmad, take a bow! What a scintillating performance from the pinch-hitter; he took the game away from Ljubljana from the jaws of death. Of course, it was left to Wasal Kamal to hit a huge six off the last ball to secure the victory.
Ljubljana bowled exceedingly well; all of their bowlers need to be applauded for the performance that they put up. Rasheed Ali Mamadkhel, who was fantastic with the bat in hand today, put up an even better performance with the gloves behind the stumps. Skipper Hassaan Ahmed will be pleased with his side’s showing here at the Budenec Oval today. These two sides go against each other again after a short while, and Ljubljana will be trying their best to avenge this defeat!
