Right, so we have our first Euro 2020 finalist. Italy have kept their astonishing unbeaten streak intact with a historic victory, but have a few issues to address before they come back onto this Wembley pitch. Spain played their heart out tonight and were the better team by a fair distance, but the rub of the green has clearly gone Italy's way.
It's been an absolute pleasure covering this game and before I retire into my bed, I'd like to thank all my readers for keeping up with these updates. This is Aditya Hosangadi signing off with a cheer, have a good night!
Football is beautiful but it is brutal, too. Morata was Spain's saviour one minute. The next, he's walking down the tunnel alone, knowing that vilification will be chasing him back to Spain.
Italy deserve to be in the final for their whole tournament, but Spain deserved it on the night. A brilliant match, between two fine teams. Real hope for Spain about 2022, especially with the way they grew into this game.
Spain will be gutted with this result - they played a brilliant game. They have a lot to take away from Euro 2020, though, and have unearthed some priceless gems. Pedri and Dani Olmo were the best players on that pitch today and have bright futures ahead of them!
This is still a Spanish team very much in transition, and Luis Enrique has less than two years left to make this group of young stalwarts ready for the 2022 World Cup!
Spain go out of Euros after winning one game and drawing five. If they could just take a couple more chances, and make a few less defensive howlers...
1 - Spain have failed to progress from a semi-final of a major tournament (World Cup/Euros) for the first time in their history, having previously reached the final in each of their previous five semi-final appearances. Dumped. #Euro2020#ESPpic.twitter.com/gNMvQidV96
The game went right down to the wire and when it mattered most, Gianluigi Donnarumma stepped up with excellent saves to deny Alvaro Morata and Dani Olmo. Buffon must be watching this game right now and smiling at his television screen. Italy have found their new generation - and how!
Federico Chiesa stepped up yet again with another crucial goal against the run of play in the first half. Luis Enrique gave Morata a job to do in the final half-hour and the striker delivered with a crucial equaliser.
Spain must be heartbroken at the moment, and you've got to feel for Luis Enrique. They battered Italy into submission for most of the game but that distinct lack of final product, the absence of cutting edge that we saw in their group games against Sweden and Poland, it's come back to haunt them.
Mark your calendars, and do it immediately. Italy are into the Euro 2020 final! They were second-best for most of this contest, they were thoroughly outplayed by a better Spanish midfield, but their heart and grit is what's seen them through. It is Italy's night, and by the most slender of margins!
OH, THAT IS BRILLIANT! A hop, a skip, and a neat roll into the corner, Jorginho scores to take Italy to the Euro 2020 final!! Ice cold nerves from the Chelsea man.
Jorgino now to win it for Italy! Expert penalty taker.
DONNARUMMA SAVES!!! There's another story for you! Poor penalty from the striker, Donnarumma dives brilliantly and Italy now have the advantage! Still 3-2.
And here comes the man with all the storylines. Alvaro Morata.
SCORES!! 3-2 TO ITALY!! Plenty of power behind that shot.
Bernardeschi for Italy..
2-2!! Makes it look easy! Donnarumma plays a minisecond too early, and Thiago rolls the ball the other way.
Thiago for Spain now, another experienced head..
2-1, BONUCCI SCORES!! Sends Unai Simon the wrong way, and Italy are back ahead.
Italy opt for experience now, Leonardo Bonucci to put Italy back in front!
1-1!!! Moreno equalises for Spain, high into the back of the net!!
Gerard Moreno for Spain now.
HE SCORES!! 1-0 to Italy! Simon guesses correctly again, but there's too much power this time.
Andrea Belotti for Italy..
DANI OLMO MISSES!! Still 0-0!
Dani Olmo for Spain, against Gianluigi Donnarumma..
LOCATELLI MISSES!!! Unai Simon guesses correctly, and it's an excellent stop! Spain have the advantage.
Italy go first. Manuel Locatelli against Unai Simon. This should be fun.
We move on to the serious business now.
Jordi Alba looks terrified as Chiellini hugs him. What a moment.!
Chiellini's having some fun here at the toss, Jordi Alba's face is a picture of both amusement and confusion. Priceless!
But this is it. The final stretch. Unai Simon was brilliant against Switzerland's penalties, but Donnarumma's reach could prove decisive. Spain have a miserable record with penalties in the regular 90, but were quite impressive in the quarterfinals.
A fairly uneventful 30 minutes of extra time, neither Spain nor Italy managed to create clear-cut chances. Some exhausted players at the end there, and it's no surprise that the intensity dropped considerably.
Here's a nice little stat for you: No team has ever won two penalty shoot-outs in one edition of the Euros. Ball's in your court, Spain.
PENALTIES! Spain 1-1 Italy (AET)
120' Uncharacteristically poor pass from Thiago, far too heavy for a through-ball and Llorente has no chance.
118' Yellow Card for Leonardo Bonucci. Follows Morata high up the pitch, and gets booked for a high foot.
117' Are we in for some more penalty drama? Neither side looks intent on a winner at the moment, and we have only three minutes of extra time left.
Spain have lost a bit of their sting at the moment, and the game is slower than it's been at any point today. If Italy want their winner, now would be the perfect time.
115' Pau Torres with a vital interception! Italy were one pass away from a free run at Unai Simon there.
110' IT'S OFFSIDE!! Berardi thinks he's won it, but the flag goes up. They've scored against the run of play once, and it would not come as a very big surprise if they do it again.
109' Eric Garcia is unable to carry on, and is replaced by Pau Torres.
Eric Garcia is down now with his share of cramps. A small stoppage to what has been an enjoyable contest so far.
108' Poor set-piece from the Liverpool man, and Italy have the ball again. Is there another twist to this game?
Thiago standing over this free-kick..
107' Italy make a change, as an exhausted Chiesa makes way for Federico Bernadeschi.
107' Dani Olmo is as tenacious as ever, giving Italy nightmares. Wins another free-kick for his side.
106' Spain make an attacking change, with Thiago Alcantara coming on for Sergio Busquets.
SECOND HALF OF EXTRA TIME IS UNDERWAY! Italy kick things off from left to right.
It's still even at Wembley, with only 15 minutes to go to penalties. Italy have struggled in extra time and we've seen some tired legs on that pitch. Spain have remained dominant and will be desperate to avoid the element of luck that comes with a penalty shoot-out.
FIRST HALF OF EXTRA TIME: Italy 1-1 Spain
105' Spain attempt another foray into the penalty area and succeed with Llorente's low cross. Chiellini's in the way, though, and makes an important intervention.
102' Donnarumma with an important save!! Moreno's cross is at its teasing best, and Morata is hungry as ever. The AC Milan shot-stopper gets his hand to it first, and Llorente can't make the most of the situation with his volley.
101' Dani Olmo is probably the only player on the pitch with energy at the moment, and wins another free kick from Pessina. Italy are still struggling to get on the ball.
98' Morata!! Spain attempt a low drive on goal from the free kick, and the Donnarumma's parry falls to Morata. The striker shoots into a wall of Italian players and after all that havoc, it's a goal kick.
97' Yellow Card for Rafael Toloi. Dani Olmo has every Italian defender's number at the moment, and that was a bad, bad foul from Toloi. Set-piece for Spain.
95' Spain enjoy a good spell of possession, but it's mostly in their own half. Laporte attempts to quicken the pace with a long ball, but it's too heavy for Moreno. Italy lose the ball almost immediately, it's something they've been guilty of far too often today.
91' Toloi hacks into Olmo, and Spain have a set-piece. Rodri commits a foul though, and Donnarumma has his goal kick.
EXTRA TIME IS UNDERWAY! Spain with the ball, going from left to right.
Italy were offering up a lot of chances before the goal. It was very far from vintage Italian defending.
Spain have dominated this game but needed their star striker to take one of the several chances they have created. Italy put in an improved performance in the second half, despite their absent midfield, and have another shift to put in now.
What these 30 additional minutes are going to produce is anyone's guess. Extra time it is!
Italy opened the scoring against the run of play, with Chiesa scoring a brilliant goal at the hour-mark. Italy looked well on their way to a victory before that man, Alvaro Morata, Spain's man Friday, came on to score an excellent equaliser.
We've had a brilliant 90 minutes at Wembley and it's level at the moment, with both teams scoring one goal apiece. Spain and Italy have 30 more minutes to find the winner before more drama ensues!
WE GO INTO EXTRA-TIME! Italy 1-1 Spain
90 + 3' Busquets is caught on the ball in midfield, and Chiesa attempts to switch play but gets too much on the ball. Throw-in for Spain.
90 + 1' Spain had a big penalty shout for handball there, but the referee waves play on. Italy look to counter but the Spaniards are able to get back in numbers.
Three minutes of added time.
88' That's Alvaro Morata for you. Spain charge ahead with Alba, and he finds the striker in space on the left. Morata tries to take it to the by-line but the touch is so heavy it's out for a goal-kick. Not to worry though, that goal would've have bought him a few more of those, and then some.
86' Spain have a tweak of their own, and Marcos Llorente replaces Cesar Azpilicueta.
85' Italy make a few more changes, with Lorenzo Insigne and Nicolo Barella making way for Andrea Belotti and Manuel Locatelli.
84' Spain are back on top again, with Morata making another run towards the right. Squares it for Gerard Moreno, but his shot is high and wide.
That was fairly direct from Spain. Morata runs through Italy's midfield, plays a nice little one-two with the ever-impressive Dani Olmo, gives Donnarumma the eyes and slots home with the power-hungry accuracy of a striker in form.
80' GOOOOOOAAAAAAAL ALVARO MORATA!!! 1-1!
78' Another tense moment from Unai Simon, gets to the long ball ahead of Insigne but smashes his clearance straight into Laporte. Luckily for him, it's only a throw-in.
77' Morata gets himself into the game with a run but doesn't have much support through the middle. Spain win a corner, but it doesn't amount to much.
Italy are pressing more vigorously now and it's troubling Spain at the moment. The chances have dried up, and the Spaniards do not have much time left.
73' Italy now make a double change, with Rafael Toloi and Matteo Pessina coming on for Marco Verratti and Emerson.
72' Spain are living dangerously and are thin at the back, Italy get through easily but Alba is back in time. The Azzurri are seeing much more of the ball now.
70' Spain make a double change, Gerard Moreno and Rodri replace Mikel Oyarzabal and Koke.
It's just not happening for Spain at the moment - don't get me wrong, they've been brilliant. Just not at scoring goals. So far, at least.
68' BERARDI!! Italy force the issue and mount a dangerous attack. Berardi takes a shot from a tight angle and tries to go through Simon's legs, but the keeper makes a good stop.
67' Dani Olmo this time!! Oyarzabal pitches in with some good hold-up play, and Dani Olmo lets fly. Wide of the post, though. Is it going to be one of those nights for Spain?
65' OYARZABAL!!! How has he missed that?!! Alba plays a delightful chip to the Sociedad man, and he just can't get his head to it. The goal was at his mercy there..
62' Spain make their own change, with Alvaro Morata replacing Ferran Torres. Will we finally see some final product?
62' Substitution for Italy, Domencio Berardo comes on for Ciro Immobile, who's had an off-day by his standards.
To say that that was against the run of play would be an understatement. Donnarrumma to Jorginho to Insigne on an Italy counter, and suddenly Immobile is through on goal. Laporte chips in with a brilliant tackle, but the ball falls to Chiesa on the left. You'll seldom see a more accurate strike into the far corner. Exceptional from Chiesa!
60' GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL ITALY!!!! FEDERICO CHIESA 1-0!!
Italy have given Spain more of a fight in midfield, but they're giving away the ball far too often at the moment. Spain have been more precise, but they'll need to start reaping the rewards sooner rather than later.
58' Oyarzabal!! Takes a shot from distance, and it has plenty of sting. It's straight at Donnarumma though, and the power doesn't trouble him. Clean catch.
57' Spain squander another chance!! Italy's spell of possession comes to an end, and Dani Olmo does brilliantly to keep Spain's counter going. Pedri bursts through the middle to find Ferran Torres on the left, but his shot is all too easily blocked by Italy.
53' Chiesa!! Italy proffer an immediate response, with Insigne and Barrella linking up to get the ball to Chiesa on the right. The Juventus man takes aim with a low, powerful shot, and Unai Simon gets down to save. Better from Italy!
52' BUSQUETS!! Not Spain's most prolific goalscoer, but nearly opens the floodgates with his effort. Oyarzabal did well with his run, and Donnarumma was worried there..
51' Yellow Card for Sergio Busquets. Plenty of power on the corner by Koke, but Italy clear their lines. Busquets stops an Italian counter-attack and is booked for his efforts.
50' Brilliant cross from Dani Olmo to his teammate on the opposite flank, but Di Lorenzo puts his body in the way of Ferran Torres and the ball. Spain have a corner..
49' Italy go long again, and Immobile is breathing down Laporte's neck. Gets his shot away, but the angle and his body shape were always going to make it difficult.
48' Terrible clearance from Unai Simon under no pressure, Italy win the corner but can't make much of it.
47' Only two minutes into the second half, and Spain are on the ball. No changes from either side at half-time.
THE SECOND HALF IS UNDERWAY! Italy kick things off, attacking from left to right.
Right, so a brief recap:
Spain have dominated possession. In other news, the sun rises in the east.
Mancini's Italy have been forced out of their comfort zone for arguably the first time this tournament. How will they respond?
Just a few minutes left to the second half!
1 - Emerson's attempt in the 45th minute was Italy's only shot in the first half - only versus Netherlands at EURO 2000 (48th minute) have Italy had a longer wait for a shot in a European Championship game since the start of the 1980 tournament. Halted. #EURO2020#ITA#ESP
0 - The last time Italy had no shot on target in a knock out stage first half of a major tournament was in the EURO final v France in 2000. Suffering.#ITAESP#EURO2020
Roberto Mancini will be a wee bit disappointed with Italy's performance so far, and has a few problems to solve. A few changes, perhaps? Verratti has been played off the park so far and Italy could do with Locatelli's X-factor. Chiesa has barely had a touch of the ball and Berardi is available as a natural replacement.
Mancini has options available to him on the bench, and might have to call upon some of his substitutes earlier than expected.
Ferran Torres completed more take-ons (3) and won more fouls (3) than any other player in the first half.
Spain's Achilles heel at Euro 2020 has been finishing, and tonight it has been no different. Oyarzabal is guilty of two missed opportunities, and Dani Olmo did test Donnarumma on one occasion but should have done better with two other chances. How long before we see Alvaro Morata? Spain would have to concede some possession by bringing the striker on, but surely it's worth it if he gets your winning goal?
Morata has missed some few big chances himself, so we'll have to wait and see if Luis Enrique has some aces up his sleeve. He'll be thrilled with Spain's overall performance so far, but they'll need to break the deadlock sooner rather than later.
But remember that midfield battle we were talking about before kick-off? Well, there's been none of that.
Spain have absolutely dominated proceedings, with Sergio Busquets and Koke dominating the middle of the park. 18-year-old Pedri is possibly the best player on the pitch at the moment and created his side's best chance so far with a wonderful through-ball - that no one else saw - to Oyarzabal's feet, 10 yards away from goal.
Much to Spain's annoyance, we have no stoppage-time whatsoever at the end of the first half, and it's still 0-0 at Wembley Stadium. Both Spain and Italy have created chances in what has been an intriguing half of football.
HALF-TIME: Italy 0-0 Spain
45' Chance for Italy! Insigne gives Azplicueta a few nightmares on the left and lays it off for Emerson, the left-back unleashes a powerful shot but it's well over the bar.
44' Italy are desperately clawing their way back into this game and Insigne looks to set his team up on the counter. Koke visibly stops the challenge illegally, but escapes the booking.
Italy's midfield is starting to feel the heat here, Busquets and co have absolutely bossed them. Verratti, Jorginho, Barrella - these are players that love keeping possession, and they've barely seen any of it so far.
39' Oh, Spain! That lack of cutting edge could come back to haunt them. Pedri starts this flowing move and feeds the ball to a Jordi Alba on the run, the left-back finds Oyarzabal on the right in acres a space. He goes for glory, a first-effort that's miles off target.
37' Emerson bursts forward with a run and takes a tumble after he loses the ball. The referee waves play on - officiating at the Euros has been fairly interesting. Top 5 leagues - take note!
34' Italy look to change things up with a long ball, and Immobile and Chiesa chase it down. It nearly works out for them, and Eric Garcia is forced to make it look more difficult than it needed to be.
33' Koke gets the ball off Verratti - made it look easy there - and feeds Olmo. The Leipzig man has options on either side but opts for the shot, probably not the best decision.
Spain have been utterly dominant so far and have created a fair few chances. 30 minutes done, and there's no sign of that midfield battle we've talked about so much. Italy need to change something here..
31' Italy win a free-kick up the pitch - they're being made to work hard at the moment and could do with some possession.
27' Italy give the ball away cheaply and Spain look to take advantage. Olmo has the ball at his feet again but is given a hefty shove at the edge of the area. The referee is having none of it though, play goes on!
26' DANI OLMO!! Spain push forward and Pedri and Oyarzabal link up. Dani Olmo is presented with an opportunity but Donnarumma gets down to pull off an excellent save!
Italy played through Spain's press far too easily there, and Emerson's pace could cause a few problems on that left flank.
21' Crucial intervention from Busquets!! Italy's attacks can be near-unstoppable and Emerson beats his man for pace to draw Unai Simon well out of his goal. The ball eventually finds Barella with an empty net to aim at, but Busquets step up with an excellent intervention.
19' Italy deal with the corner fairly easily, and normal service resumes with Spain in possession. Spain need to do quite a lot to get to their headers - Italy have some feisty defenders in their ranks.
Spain have now won a corner at the opposite end of the pitch. This game is moving at some pace!
18' Italy lobs over the wall looking for Immobile and his big centre-backs. Unai Simon comes out to snuff out the chance.
17' Italy are perfectly capable of holding their own though, and win a free-kick about 35 yards from goal. Insigne over the ball, his right foot can work wonders.
Dani Olmo and Pedri are bossing things at the moment and for the first time at Euro 2020, Italy seem to be strangled in their own half. Only 15 minutes played, and this is already a brilliant watch.
15' Ferran Torres now takes his chances with a shot - does brilliantly to outfox Jorginho but doesn't get much behind his strike. Spain are picking up the pace here..
13' Oyarazabal! Pedri dismantles Italy's defence with an Iniesta-esque pass, but Oyarzabal is slightly ahead of the pass. Chiellini recovers and clears. Chance!
10' Spain makes their first forward foray of the match with Busquets and Koke. Oyarzabal cuts in but his cross is easily defended by the Italian defence.
7' The game is yet to settle into its rhythm at the moment with both teams fighting for supremacy. Spain have edged the possession stats so far but Italy look more dangerous.
Barella was offside anyway so a goal would not have counted. Spain's high press is interesting though - Italy have players who can find their way around it.
4' BARELLA HITS THE POST!! Italy break through the Spanish hits the press and Emerson finds Barella with a brilliant ball. The Inter man beats Unai Simon with his curl but can only hit the woodwork.
2' The midfield tussles are already evident at the moment - both teams have already knocked the ball off each other on a couple of occasions.
KICK-OFF! Spain gets things started, attacking from left to right.
This game should give us a tactical battle for the ages but make no mistake - there is some serious individual quality out on that pitch tonight. Immobile doesn't need a second invitation to show off his trigger-happy skills, and Insigne is a bonafide magician in his own right.
With Morata missing, Spain are lacking a bit in the X-factor department but more than make up for it with their all-round technical brilliance. We have some wonderful match-ups on our hands tonight!
Italy, on the other hand, have gone with their tried-and-tested setup with a few minor adjustments. Mancini has anticipated an intriguing midfield battle and has chosen Verratti's control over Locatelli's effervescence. Emerson Palmieri replaces the injured Spinazzola tonight, and boy does he have massive boots to fill.
No other TEAM has missed more Big Chances than Álvaro Morata and Gerard Moreno combined (11) at #EURO2020
Okay, this is a BIG call from Luis Enrique. Alvaro Morata, Spain's saviour against Croatia, has been benched tonight in favour of a system that pays homage to La Furia Roja's trysts with the false nine. Mikel Oyarzabal has been tasked with the challenge tonight and it'll be interesting to see whether the systemic change has an impact on Italy's approach.
Pau Torres has made way for Eric Garcia and Pablo Sarabia's injuryhas given Dani Olmo an opportunity to impress today. The midfield remains the only constant in Enrique's side, with Busquets, Koke, and Pedri keeping their places in the team.
Italy Official XI (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Emerson Palmieri, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Giovanni Di Lorenzo; Jorginho, Marco Verratti, Nicolo Barella; Federico Chiesa, Lorenzo Insigne, Ciro Immobile

LINE-UPS ARE OUT!
Right, we're about 40 minutes away from the official line-ups - both teams have several key decisions to make today. The immediate futures of both the Spanish and Italian national teams hang in the balance at the moment, and neither manager will want to concede an advantage.
Most predictions at the Euros have been thrown out of the window fairly violently this year. Nevertheless, here's ours!
We're nearly four hours away from kick-off at the moment, so there's plenty of time to kill before what could be one of the games of the tournament. In the meantime, here are a few statistics to keep you company:
Italy, on the other hand, are in the form of their life at the moment. Roberto Mancini's Azzurri are on a record-breaking unbeaten streak and can seemingly do no wrong at the Euros.
With Insigne and Immobile in excellent form and a wonderfully balanced midfield behind them, Italy could potentially go all the way this year. They do have a history with Spain at the Euros and will be in no mood to remain on the back foot today.
Spain did not look like their knock-out contenders in their first two matches of the season but have since blossomed into an attacking juggernaut under Luis Enrique. The Spanish Armada are not as good as their Golden Generation yet, but have made progress with their transition in recent weeks.
The Spaniards did face a few problems against Switzerland over the weekend, however, and needed Unai Simon to come up with a few heroics to spare their blushes. Spain have a few issues to resolve ahead of this game and cannot afford to put a foot wrong against this Italy side.
Hello, and welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the Euro 2020 semi-final between Spain and Italy! I'm Aditya Hosangadi, your host for the evening, and we should be in for a cracking contest between two of Europe's biggest teams!
Right, so we have our first Euro 2020 finalist. Italy kick things off from left to right.
Italy 1-1 Spain
Dani Olmo has every Italian defender's number at the moment, and that was a bad, bad foul from Toloi. Set-piece for Spain.

What these 30 additional minutes are going to produce is anyone's guess. Extra time it is!
Italy 1-1 Spain
Plenty of power on the corner by Koke, but Italy clear their lines. Busquets stops an Italian counter-attack and is booked for his efforts.
