It is unfortunate for the Netherlands as they showed great fighting spirit to push Argentina to their very best to qualify. While the Dutch return home, Argentina and Messi qualify for the semi-finals and will face Croatia. Will the 2018 finalists manage to create one more upset and eliminate the 2014 finalists? Only time can tell.

What a game of football this has been. Argentine lead 2-0 and looked set to proceed in the next round until Wout Weghorst came on and scored twice to take the game to extra-time. Both teams failed to score in the extra 30 minutes leading to the penalty shootout. Martinez did brilliantly to deny Netherlands twice in their first two kicks. Eventually, Argentina won it 4-3. Superb game this.

The Dutch have looked comfortable on the ball but haven't been at their creative best. They will certainly up it a notch or two to beat past the sturdy Argentine defense. Given the scoreline, the onus is all on Louis Van Gaal and his men to turn things around in the second half.

The game looked quite dull in the opening 30-odd minutes and it all changed once Argentina found the back of the net through Molina in the 35th minute. Lionel Messi was once again at the heart of it as he found a sublime pass to find the right-wing back a perfect opportunity to give the lead.
