Haryana Steelers 42 - 36 Patna Pirates

How do you even begin to sum up this game?

Let's address the elephant in the room. Haryana coach Manpreet Singh, known to be a passionate and demanding coach, was even more invested in the proceedings tonight and made history by becoming the first coach to be awarded a yellow card in PKL history after his very vocal protests against a poor refereeing decision.

Devank, the Patna powerhouse, also earned the referees' ire and a yellow card, and it has to be said, tonight wasn't a good one for the usually solid and calm PKL referees, who made some shocking calls, and freely brandished cards at will.

Coming to the match itself, Haryana had an opportunity to inflict an early all-out, but Patna clawed their way back to register one first, with the first half finishing 16-17. However, a breakneck passage of play with Manpreet's outburst at its centre was the turning point as the Steelers registered their second all-out and went very close to making it three before a Shadloui error and a magical Super Raid from Deepak Singh stole them a point.

Devank and Ankit were Patna's best players on the night in raid and defense, but with Ayan having a shocking outing and the rest of the defense struggling to handle Shivam Patare in the second half, Patna finished second best on the night.

The Steelers were led by a pumped-up Shadloui, who scored a High 5 and four raid points, with Shivam Patare scoring a Super 10 and the right cover Sanjay also getting to a High 5.

This fixture, which produced arguably PKL's most iconic moment, Pardeep Narwal's 8-point raid, continues to deliver some PKL classics like this one, which was entertaining and dramatic, both on the mat and off it! That's all we have for you tonight. Join us again tomorrow for more exciting kabaddi action as I, Shreyas, bid you adieu.
2nd Half, 40'
Haryana Steelers 42 - 36 Patna Pirates

Ohh! Some comeback this for the Pirates.

Shadloui thinks he has the point against a 2-man Patna defense, leaping over Shubham Shinde's tackle attempt, but it turns out, he's too slow to get back to the mid-line and is timed out, conceding a Super Tackle to the Pirates.

Deepak Singh then comes away with a Super Raid to reduce the margin of defeat to 7!
An ambitious challenge from Vikul Lamba didn't come off, with Shivam Patare also joining him, and the bonus point meant that Deepak, who was without a single tackle point, potentially secures something for the Pirates tonight!

The final raid of the match sees Vinay tackled by the Pirates' defense, and while coach Manpreet insists his team takes a review, it's a clear point for the Pirates.

One of the most entertaining and dramatic matches in PKL history comes to an end after a wild, wild second half, with the Steelers emerging 42-36 winners.
2nd Half, 39'
Haryana Steelers 42 - 30 Patna Pirates

Vinay leaves it late but finally gets the point in a do-or-die raid, escaping well from Ankit's attempted challenge. The Pirates are reduced to three once again, and Sandeep is dashed out by a very sharp Sanjay, who is given a green card for jersey-pulling.

The card count must be insane in this game!
2nd Half, 37'
Haryana Steelers 40 - 30 Patna Pirates

Shadloui gets in and puts in a terrific kick on the Patna left cover to compound their misery. Devank tries to get the Pirates back in this, but he's dashed out by Sanjay, but appears to have crossed the mid-line before completely going out of the mat.

However, wait! He's given a yellow card for arguing with the referee before he's made the decision and he's fuming at that! The Pirates will be without their best source of points for these final minutes!

Ayan is now sent to the bench once again. Patna have no other options in raid, and Ayan, who still has zero points tonight, is short on confidence and falls to a well-timed block-dash from Jaideep.

Patna call for a timeout, and they need a miracle to even get one point from this.
The Steelers call for a timeout, and FYI, this has to be the game with the most cards awarded as Shubham Shinde and the Patna Head Coach are also awarded green cards.
2nd Half, 35'
Haryana Steelers 37 - 30 Patna Pirates

Ohh, second all-out for the Steelers who look in complete control right now!
Shadloui puts in a hefty kick on Shubham Shinde to reduce the Pirates to one, with Gurdeep's meek raid attempt ended quickly by a fierce dash from Jaideep.

It's going to take something else for the Pirates to recover from this!
2nd Half, 34'
Haryana Steelers 33 - 29 Patna Pirates

Ohh, you have to feel for Ayan Lohchab, who has had a dismal evening tonight. He has to go in for a do-or-die raid with zero points under his belt, and he has no chance against Shadloui, who is absolutely pumped up, presumably by coach Manpreet's outburst! He gets to his High 5 with that!

The Steelers have a do-or-die raid immediately after, but Shivam is too quick for that Pirates' defense, anticipating Ankit's challenge and using the lobby really well to get away.

The Pirates are down to two now.
2nd Half, 32'
Haryana Steelers 31 - 29 Patna Pirates

Shivam Patare's pace and agility have been too hot to handle for Deepak Singh tonight and he falls prey to the same once again as Shivam gets to his Super 10. Steelers sneaking ahead with a two-point lead that is increasingly looking solid.
2nd Half, 30'
Haryana Steelers 30 - 29 Patna Pirates

Ohh, it's Vinay who comes in with a terrific dash to execute a Super Tackle for the Steelers, that sees them retake the lead after quite a while.

The whistle blows for the timeout, and woah! We really need that breather after an action-packed ten minutes of play that had drama and entertainment all over it.
2nd Half, 29'
Haryana Steelers 28 - 29 Patna Pirates

Oh, Shadloui toyed with Devank brilliantly there!
He kept making Devank think he had a chance of getting to him with a diving hand touch, and when Devank goes his way, he loses his balance, and the Iranian defender wasn't missing out on that opportunity to execute a Super Tackle.

Shivam Patare is revived and he does well to pick up a bonus point, but the Steelers still have only thee on the mat.

Wait, what's happened here? Shadloui is adjudged to have stepped into the lobby once again, but coach Manpreet Singh is furious with that decision and screams at the official, earning a green card in the process. He then eggs the crowd on as the Steelers review the decision.

Proper Box Office stuff this!

And he's right, Shadloui didn't step out of bounds. The review is successful. Manpreet roars once again, and the referees brandish the yellow card to him now! He becomes the first coach in PKL history to be given a yellow card, that suspends him for 2 minutes!

This game has instantly become a PKL classic!
2nd Half, 27'
Haryana Steelers 25 - 29 Patna Pirates

Shivam Patare is finally sent to the bench by a mighty block from the substitute left cover Gurdeep, but wait! That's not all, say the Pirates.

Devank gets to his Super 10 in style with a Super Raid! Jaideep goes in for an advanced ankle hold, getting support from Rahul Sethpal and Sanjay, but Devank uses his height to easily get to the mid-line. He's too good, this young man!

Devank's rampage continues as he uses his speed to isolate a 3-man Haryana defense, targeting the substitute Ashish Gill, as the Steelers can only manage a couple of bonus points.

Haryana are down to two now.
2nd Half, 25'
Haryana Steelers 23 - 24 Patna Pirates

And, Devank is flying now! This time, he reads Vikul Lamba well, anticipates the challenge from him, getting away with a bonus point as well.

But ohh! Shivam Patare may well have brought the Steelers back into this one with a stellar Super Raid. He looked fired up going into that raid, and uses his pace to burst past all attempted challenges to explode through to the mid-line, reducing Patna to one.

Devank tries his best, but the Haryana captain Jaideep makes no mistake with his tackle on the Patna starlet, as the Steelers register their first all-out.
2nd Half, 22'
Haryana Steelers 17 - 20 Patna Pirates

Ohh, Shadloui what have you done?
He gifts two points to the Pirates here and dents the Steelers' chances of immediately inflicting an all-out right after the break. The Iranian goes in to raid and steps into the lobby without any pressure on him, conceding a Super Tackle to the Pirates.

Devank quickly picks up a bonus, and Shivam Patare does well to revive Shadloui, anticipating and escaping well from Ankit's attempted challenge.

Ohh, and with that bonus, Devank becomes the first raider to score 200 raid points this season. What a player!
Half-Time
Haryana Steelers 16 - 17 Patna Pirates

Ohh, absolute brain-fade from Ayan and a masterstroke from Shadloui
! Yet to score a single point in this match, Ayan wonders whether he has a bonus point and loses focus as he tracks back to his mid-line, only to be caught out by a razor-quick pursuit from Shadloui that made the Patna raider look really silly.

In the final seconds of the half, Patna has a do-or-die raid, and with all three raiders on the mat, Deepak Singh ventures in, only to be dealt with well by the right cover Sanjay.

The whistle blows for half-time, and just one point separates the two teams. Patna are down to three, and Haryana will put in the first raid in the second half, and will eye the all-out. A cracker of a second half awaits in this game filled with ebbs and flows. Who'll come out on top?
1st Half, 18'
Haryana Steelers 14 - 17 Patna Pirates

Ohh, Vikul Lamba surprises Devank with a well-timed challenge from the right-in position as the Steelers try to quickly hit back before the break.

The Haryana defense is at it again once more and it's Sanjay now, who goes in with pretty much a solo dash, just about dashing Sandeep Kumar off court. However, Patna do well to stop their streak of points as Ankit scores his 4th tackle point of the night, circling around with a mighty block on Shivam Patare.
1st Half, 16'
Haryana Steelers 12 - 16 Patna Pirates

Ohh, the Pirates reduce the Steelers to two as Devank puts in a ferocious kick on a hapless Sahil, and the substitute Vishal Tate is also brought down by a terrific challenge from Shubham Shinde to bring the Steelers down to one, and an easy surrender raid gives the Pirates the first all-out of the match.

Shivam Patare pulls one back for the Steelers, evading Arkam Shaikh's challenge with ease.
1st Half, 14'
Haryana Steelers 10 - 11 Patna Pirates

Under immense pressure, Vinay comes good for the Steelers, executing a really sharp toe touch on Ankit in a do-or-die raid in a 1v4 situation.

Devank has a do-or-die raid against a 5-man Haryana defense, and Shadloui makes no mistake with his double knee hold that leaves him rooted to the spot, but ohh twist in the tale! Shadloui just steps into the lobby before executing the tackle, and that just about saves the Pirates on that occasion.

This is an absolute rollercoaster of a game! The Pirates now take the lead as Navdeep puts in a solid dash on Vinay, with Deepak Singh providing him with solid support.
1st Half, 12'
Haryana Steelers 9 - 9 Patna Pirates

Ohh, the do-or-die raid comes around, and it's trouble for Shivam Patare, who falls prey to a very well-timed diving ankle hold from the substitute Navdeep.

With the Steelers down to three, Ayan has a chance to put the Pirates in a great position, but he slips and loses his footing in a do-or-die raid, stepping into the lobby, conceding a cheap Super Tackle in the process.
1st Half, 10'
Haryana Steelers 7 - 8 Patna Pirates

And Patna come from behind to take the lead!
It's Devank who uses his height and strength well to escape from makeshift left corner Jaideep's attempted ankle hold, and now, both teams have four men on the mat.

It's a one-point advantage for the Pirates as we head into the first timeout, but this has already been a wonderful game of kabaddi! The Patna captain came in clutch with a Super Tackle to save his side's blushes, with Sandeep Kumar's vital raid also equally important.

Who'll peak in the second phase of this first half?
1st Half, 8'
Haryana Steelers 7 - 7 Patna Pirates

The Steelers reduce the Pirates to three, and the in-form Shivam Patare easily reduces them to one, acrobatically escaping from the first challenge, doing well to get the second touch on Shubham Shinde, who tries in vain to stay away.

However, Sandeep Kumar gets the running hand touch on the right-in to keep the Pirates alive, and guess what? Shadloui is done in by Ankit in the Super Tackle situation as the Pirates draw level!

Haryana could regret letting them slip away here.
1st Half, 6'
Haryana Steelers 5 - 3 Patna Pirates

Ohh, Shivam Patare surprises Deepak Singh with his agility, executing a surprise toe touch, and while Deepak swears on the mat and claims that there's no touch, the decision eventually goes the Steelers' way.

Meanwhile, Ayan's poor night continues as he runs into a determined Shadloui, whose tackle attempt is well supported by his corner partner Rahul Sethpal.
1st Half, 4'
Haryana Steelers 3 - 3 Patna Pirates

Ohh, Shubham Shinde now strikes, coming around with a confident block to send Vinay to the bench for the second time in as many raids. However, the Steelers' defense has been immense all season, and they don't stop now, with Sanjay and Jaideep Dahiya bulldozing Devank and pretty much carrying him off the mat.

This doesn't look like it's gonna be an easy game for the raiders.
1st Half, 2'
Haryana Steelers 2 - 2 Patna Pirates

Devank shows why he's a smoothly functioning raid machine at the moment as he executes a practically flawless running hand touch on a hapless Sanjay.

At the other end, Vinay is faced with an early setback as he's done in by a really well-timed backhold by Ankit.

However, the Steelers don't take long to open their account, and it's Shadloui who comes around with a mighty block to stop Ayan. Shivam Patare scores the Steelers' first raid point of the night, easily dealing with an attempted block in front of the mid-line from Ankit.

Terrific start this!
Toss Update: The Haryana Steelers win the toss and choose court. The Pirates will raid first.

We have a spectacular Friday night fixture lined up for you as two of the best teams this season go head-to-head in a top-of-the-table clash at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune. The league leaders Haryana Steelers take on a high-flying Patna Pirates tonight in what should be a thrilling encounter.

Incidentally, the Pirates' last outing was a 38-35 win over the same Bengal Warriorz, and that result will give them plenty of confidence going into this match against a really strong Haryana Steelers' unit.

The reverse fixture between these two top sides was a very close battle that finished 37-32 in favor of the Steelers, and the youthful Patna raiding unit backed by their experienced defense will actively seek revenge in this one.

As we await a potential classic in the making, sit back and relax as we take you through all that unfolds in Pune.
