AEW Dynamite Live Results (August 16, 2023): Major star hospitalized, ex-WWE star's return confirmed, Chris Jericho attacked, returning stars lose

Austin Gunn hits the Fameasser and rolls up Matt Jackson for a two-count. The Young Bucks steal the win.

Post-match, Bullet Club Gold attack The Young Bucks, but FTR come out and make the save. Both teams have a standoff to end the show.

After a back-and-forth, The Young Bucks single out Austin Gunn and look to hit the BTE Trigger, but Colten Gunn makes the save. Austin Gunn takes out Nick Jackson. The Gunns connect with the 3:10 to Yuma, but Nick Jackson makes the save.

Matt Jackson dumps The Gunns on the outside and tags in Nick Jackson. He comes in with a flurry of offense and takes down The Gunns with headscissors. Nick hits a superkick on Austin and follows up with a facebuster. He takes out Colten.

Colten Gunn hits a suplex and gets a two-count. He wears down Matt Jackson before Austin Gun is tagged in. Colten hits a dropkick for another two-count.

Colten gets a cheap shot on Matt. The latter's head is slammed on the turnbuckles and isolated in the heels' corner. Austin Gunn mocks The Bucks.

Austin Gunn pulls Matt Jackosn's leg, giving Colten Gunn the upperhand. Austin Gunn attacks Nick Jackson at ringside. Austin gets a two-count and is in control.

The Young Bucks vs. The Gunns

The Young Bucks attack The Gunns on the ramp. The Gunns retaliate by slamming The Bucks on the barricades. Matt Jackson helps his brother take down Colten Gunn with a double suplex. They follow up with double drop kicks.

We have the main event up next. The Young Bucks take on The Gunns.

House of Black take away Billy Gunn's boots to end the segment on Dynamite.

The Acclaimed appear on Dynamite for match against enhancement talent. However, the lights go out and House of Black stand behind them. The trios champions unload on Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. Bowens is laid out with a double team move.

Baker hits a butterfly suplex and decks The Bunny with right hand strikes. She gets a two-count shortly after. Baker brings out the sock, but Ford takes it away. Britt Baker picks up the win with a stomp.

Penelope Ford stomps on Britt Baker on the outside and The Bunny takes advantage. She gets a two-count shortly after. Britt Baker looks to make her comeback and hits a forearm strike, followed by a slingblade.

The Bunny chokes Baker on the ropes with leg scissors and unloads with some strikes. Penelope Ford gets in a cheap shot.

Britt Baker has the early advantage, but The Bunny makes her comeback with a knee strike. Baker takes The Bunny down with a neckbreaker, but the latter responds with a lariat.

We have a singles match up next as Britt Baker takes on The Bunny.

Towards the end, Jay Lethal blasts Jeff Jarrett with a hammer and Satnam Singh hits a chokeslam. Lethal pulls Jarrett over Hardy for the pinfall victory.

Hardy connects with a Senton Bomb through a table, but Jay Lethal breaks up the three count. The other stars come in and do some moves before Jeff Hardy smashes Jeff Jarrett with a guitar. Leatherface comes in and chases Karen Jarrett away.

Jeff Hardy chokes Jeff Jarrett as the other members battle among themselves. Inside the ring, Hardy unloads on Jarrett with kendo stick. A table is set up and Jeff Hardy drops Jeff Jarrett with a Twist of Fate.

The Jarretts look to escape, but Sonjay Dutt comes in and attacks Jeff Hardy and co. After a back-and-forth, Jeff takes out multiple names with a dive. We finally see the two stars appear on the ramp.

After a lot of shenanigans, some fluid is dumped on the Jarretts and we see Satnam Singh is tied with a rope. Jay Lethal comes in and attacks Jeff Hardy.

Jeff Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Hardy comes out first and walks through the crowd to find some weapons, but gets attacked by Jeff Jarrett.

Chris Jericho is in a backstage segment and says Will Ospreay didn't need to attack him for the match. Jericho says the clash between the two almost happened in 2021, but the pandemic stopped it. Jericho then vowed to destroy Ospreay at All In.

Aussie Open escape a double clothesline attempt before Adam Cole teases attacking MJF from behind. Both stars walk to the back together.

Both stars start their catchphrases with the crowd before being attacked by Aussie Open.

MJF says main eventing All In with Adam Cole means a lot, but not everything. The AEW World Title means a lot more to him. MJF says he'll not lie down at All In and vows to defeat Adam Cole. The latter says "may the best man win."

MJF opens up how he approached Cody Rhodes to compete at All In in 2018, the biggest wrestling event outside of WWE. He says Tony Khan caught notice of him and adds if there is no AEW, there is no MJF. The AEW World Champion then hypes himself up.

MJF starts his own story time. The Devil then brings up naming Cody Rhodes and Adam Cole as his dream opponents while starting his career.

Cole then brings up the AEW World Championship match and how doctors had almost ruled out his return to pro wrestling a year ago. He says the world title bout solidies his legacy. Cole states he needs to win the match at any cost.

Adam Cole and MJF come down to the ring and hype up their match at All In. The ROH World Tag Team Championship Match. MJF says they'll win with the kangaroo kick. Cole says they'll win with the double clothesline.

Adam Cole and MJF enter the arena and we see Roderick Strong STILL chasing The Panama City Playboy.

The duo check out kangaroo videos to take down Aussie Open and then swiftly move to crocodiles to rile up their opponents. Cole and MJF get in trouble with Tony Khan before The Devil teases leaving AEW.

We see Adam Cole and MJF in a steakhouse. After an argument, Cole slaps MJF. The duo then devise a strategy to take down Aussie Open.

Post-match, Sting appears on the titantron and hypes up the Coffin Match at All In. He has Prince Nana hostage and scares him away.

Allin hits a guillotine and Wayne follows up with a hurricanrana on Liona. Nick Wayne takes Toa Liona on the outside and Darby Allin hits the Coffin Drop on Kaun to pick up the victory.

Wayne finally makes the tag and Darby Allin hits a cannonball on Liona. He then gets a two-count assisted by Wayne. Kaun and Liona double team Allin and get a two-count, but Nick Wayne breaks it up.

Gates of Agony have the early advantage after the vicious attack, Toa Liona wears down Nick Wayne and tags in Bishop Kaun. Swerve Strickland and AR Fox watch the action from the ramp.

We see Nick Wayne and Darby Allin come down to the ring, but they are attacked by Gates of Agony.

Sammy Guevara chases the heel away.

We see Jack Perry in a vignette and says he'll retire the FTW Championship.

Jericho retorts back by saying Callis is nobody and takes further shots. Don Callis slaps him before Chris Jericho attacks him. Takeshita blindsides him before WILL OSPREAY returns and aligns with Don Callis.

Don Callis says he didn't think Chris Jericho wouldn't join him because of his massive ego. Callis takes shots at Jericho and he says he doesn't deserve to be a part of the Don Callis family.

Jericho says after last week's walkout, he needs to align with someone as low as him before Callis says they need to celebrate. Chris Jericho then says he wants to see the painting and it shows Callis holding The Ocho's severed head.

We see Chris Jericho in the ring with Don Callis and the latter wants answers. Jericho says the other members of JAS walking out on him "hurt" him. The Ocho says he doesn't join factions, but creates them. Jericho then says yes to joining Callis' faction.

Hangman Page provides an update on Omega and challenges White, Juice, and Takeshita to a six-man match against Omega, Page, and KOTA IBUSHI.

Don Callis appears and gets attacked by Juice Robinson, Jay White, and Konosuke Takeshita. He is taken to the hospital.

We see a sit-down interview with Kenny Omega and Don Callis. He opens up about Callis being a part of his childhood. Omega says he doesn't want his existence to be based on revenge and wants to move on. The Cleaner then hypes up Konosuke Takeshita.

Post-match, BCC members attack Cassidy, but Best Friends and Lucha Brothers make the save. The BCC members have steel chairs, but Eddie Kingston returns and chases them away. He then challenges to a Stadium Stampede match at All In.

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli appear at ringside. OC hits the Paradigm Shift and follows up with the Orange Punch. But Yuta rolls him up for a two-count. After a back-and-forth, Cassidy retains his title with a roll up.

Yuta hits a superplex and follows up with a diving splash for a two-count. He goes for a stomp, but OC escapes and hits a dragon screw. He gets a two-count after hitting the Michinoku Driver.

Wheeler Yuta slow down the pace of the match, and wears Orange Cassidy down. Yuta continues to target OC's injured hand, but the champion makes his comeback with a dropkick. He hits a dive and both stars are on the top rope.
