October 4 - A day to remember

Right then, that brings to an end what has been an absolutely sensational day for Indian Sports! India breach the 80-medal mark on the medal tally and all of a sudden, the 100-medal dream will be very much alive! Neeraj Chopra stealing the show (and the Gold) once again with a Season Best throw of 88.88m, while Kishore Kumar Jena etched his name in the record books too, with a personal best score.

But well before the Javelin Throw heroics unfolded, Athletics was already contributing to India's medal tally, with the duo of Manju Rani and Baboo Ram helping India win Bronze medal in the 35km Mixed Team Race Walk. That pretty much set the tone for the day as what followed was a large inflow of medals for the Indian contingent.

A Gold in Archery, multiple medals in Boxing and a Bronze in squash followed. Sunil Kumar followed it up with a wrestling Bronze too. And then, Athletics followed! It was raining medals for India and they finish with a grand total of 12 medals today! The Indian contingent will be a happy one for sure and will work towards its 100-medal goal with a rejuvenated effort.

ATHLETICS - Men's Javelin Throw Final

Kishore Kumar Jena gives it too much elevation and it's a foul for him too! It does not matter, he goes and gives Neeraj Chopra a big hug! GOLD FOR NEERAJ CHOPRA, SILVER FOR KISHORE KUMAR JENA!  Two big medals added to India's tally! Oh what a contest this has been! All started out with a technical glitch which robbed Neeraj of an 85m+ throw. He started off decently but it was Kishore Kumar Jena who returned with a massive throw of 86.77m to pip his compatriot and move to the first position.

After the Eliminations, it was time for Neeraj Chopra to reclaim his position at the top as a Season Best of 88.88m saw him rise to the top again! Kishore Kumar Jena followed up closely, breaking his second consecutive personal best in a row to record 87.54m. It was largely a contest between the two Indians itself. None of the other throwers got even close to them and were left competing for Bronze.

The Indians were waiting for Neeraj Chopra to be in action ever since the commencement of the Asian Games and it has been worth the wait. Neeraj Chopra defends his Gold from the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games! And after this performance, Kishore Kumar Jena will become a household too! Quite the controversial start to the event so far eh? First the attempt that wasn't. Then the foul that wasn't. If nothing else, this Javelin Throw final does have the drama eh? Especially after you'd have expected it to be a straightforward medal for Neeraj.
