Asian Games 2023 Highlights September 24: Team India started their Asian Games 2023 campaign in style, winning three silver medals and two bronze medals on the Day 1 of the grand extravaganza. Oof, quite the day it has been for the Indian contingent in Hangzhou, China today. Plenty of emotion - joy, desire, heartbreak, elations - we've seen versions of them all over a massive Day 1 (is it really the first day though?) of the Asian Games.

The highlight for the day has to be the 5 medals that Indian athletes have brought home today. 3 in Rowing (2 silver, 1 bronze) and 2 in Shooting (1 silver, 1 bronze). The gold medal may still elude the Indian contingent but the first one of the games can't be too far away. For now though, India find themselves in third place on the medal tally table. China and Hong Kong find themselves in first and second place by virtue of them having won gold medals at all (9 for China, 1 for Hong Kong).

Tomorrow's a new day though. And tomorrow, we, Team Sportskeeda, will still be here to bring you all the action as India try to chase down that first gold medal of Asian Games 2023. Join us!

India bow out of the tournament with a performance that they wouldn't have hoped for. They were just one step away from going into the semi-finals, which would've given them a chance to improve their 2018 Asian Games outcome but it was not to be. Harmeet was beaten in straight games to start off after which Sathiyan won two games to give India a glimmer of hope. However, that glimmer was quickly extinguished as Park won the remaining three games to extend Korea's lead. Sharath Kamal, too, kept himself in the hunt till the last game, where Jungsung Oh held his nerve better to win it. Republic of Korea move on to the Semi-Finals!

Women's 4x100 Freestyle relay

Well, that wasn't what any of us would have hoped. A second behind what they had in the heats but 7 seconds ahead of Macao in 8th. 7th place finish for India in 3:54.66, nearly 21 seconds behind China's Asian Games record of 3:33.96. Another gold medal for the hosts.

Women's 4x100 Freestyle relay

India start off on lane 7 (not that you can see it but we're telling you anyway) and will hope to put in a proper performance in this race. Will they be able to add to the 9 swimming medals the country has accumulated over the years? Only time can tell! Time being a few minutes, of course. No glory for Nataraj in the 100m backstroke in the end. He finishes 6th in 54.48s - a full 2 seconds behind Xu Jiayu of China, who claims gold with an Asian Games record time of 52.23s.

Well, these are easy pickings for Sharath Kamal. He's raced away to a win in the first game and if that is anything to go by, this match promises to get over in quick time!

Taniksha loses out on seminfinal berth after facing tough competition from Kong MV. The India number one displayed a lot of courage but Kong's abilities shone at the end.

Taniksha Khatri (World Rank 82) is set to play World no.2 Kong MV from Hong Kong in the Quarterfinals. She qualified for the quarters with a close win over Uzbekistan's Shakhzoda Egamberdieva earlier in the day. She now faces a really tough opponent and will have to produce her best game to see India through to the semifinals.
