Full time: Brazil 2-0 Ecuador

For all the hype of the goal-scoring prowess coming into the game, it was an attritional affair, with both sides looking quite poor in the first half. Brazil started the second period in the ascendancy and their dominance told in the 65th minute, with Richarlison hammering Brazil into the lead. Neymar scored a late penalty to add gloss to the scoreline, which was harsh on Ecuador, who deserved more from this game.

The result keeps Brazil in top spot with 15 points from 5 games, four clear of Argentina in second. Ecuador remain in third on 9 points, facing Peru next, while Brazil make a trip to Paraguay ahead of the Copa America.

90+8' The referee blows for full time! Brazil 2-0 Ecuador

90+7' Ecuador to their credit are still attempting to score, but little comes from a corner.

90+6' It's anyone's guess how many minutes of added time will be played, with no information from the referee.

90+4' Neymar repeats his stuttering run up again, and opts for the other corner this time, with Dominguez going the wrong way and watching in agony as the ball is chipped into the net.

90+4' GOAAAAL!!!! Neymar makes it 2-0 to Brazil

90+1' VAR contacts the referee and the penalty will be retaken as Dominguez was off his line. The Ecuadorian goalkeeper earns a yellow card for his protests, which has some merit as his heel was very, very close to the line.

90+1' SAVE! Neymar stutters in his run-up and sends in an awful penalty, with Dominguez diving the right way and saving with ease!

90' SUBSTITUTION: Richarlison is replaced by Fabinho

89' PENALTY! Preciado catches Jesus in the box and after a VAR review, Brazil are awarded a penalty. Neymar steps up to take it....

89' The referee is called over to the pitch-side monitor and he chooses to award a penalty for Brazil!

86' A VAR check is going on for a potential foul on Gabriel Jesus in the box... The referee had awarded it as a free-kick in Ecuador's favour.

85' CHANCE! Neymar dances a merry tune in the box and finds Gabriel Jesus with a clever cross, but he takes too long and the ball is cleared out to Paqueta. Dominguez has no problems with his low drive.

84' SUBSTITUTION: Juan Cazares comes on to replace Angel Mena for Ecuador.

83' CHANCE! Neymar finds Richarlison in the same spot from which he scored, but he opts to roll the ball to Firmino at the far post. Xavier Arreaga is on hand to clear the ball out for a corner, saving a certain goal.

81' Tite is livid as Estupinan goes down with ease under a challenge from Gabriel Jesus and earns a free-kick.

80' CHANCE! Estupinan's early cross from the left catches out Alisson, who flaps at the ball near the far post and concedes a corner. Angel Mena gets two bites of the cherry while delivering the ball from the right, but Brazil clear with ease.

78' Ecuador have lost a bit of their shape after their substitutions, with Brazil looking ever-more dangerous. Meanwhile, the ball has to be replaced after losing a bit of air.

76' SUBSTITUTION: That was Gabigol's last contribution of the game, with Roberto Firmino replacing him. Michael Estrada and Jordy Caicedo (debut) come on to replace Enner Valencia and Jhegson Mendez for Ecuador.

74' WHAT A MISS! Neymar is set free on the counter, and finds Richarlison on the edge of the box. Dominguez charges off his line and Richarlison side-steps the goalkeeper, lofting a ball into Gabigol in the box, but his glancing header goes wide, with the goal gaping!

73' YELLOW! Eder Militao goes into the book for a cynical foul on Angelo Preciado leading an Ecuadorian counter-attack.

72' WHAT A CHANCE! Dominguez makes a great save as Gabigol is found in the box in a one-on-one situation and fluffs his lines. Brazil earn a succession of corners but are unable to capitalise.

71' SHOT! A superb run from Gabriel Jesus, who collects the ball on the left and jinks past Arboleda with ease, hammering a low drive at Dominguez, who makes the regulation save.

70' SUBSTITUTION: Fidel Martinez replaces Eduar Ayrton Preciado for Ecuador.

69' YELLOW! The frustrations are boiling over, with Eduar Ayrton Preciado catching Jesus on his ankle with a late challenge.

68' Ecuadorian heads have dropped, with Brazil passing the ball around the back with ease. No sign of the press which served Ecuador so well this game.

65' Neymar finds Richarlison in space on the left edge of the box with a clever pass and the Evertonian forward responds with a thunderbolt of a shot aimed at the near post. Dominguez gets a hand to it, but is unable to stop the ball from nestling in the net.

65' GOOOOAAAL!!!! Richarlison makes it 1-0 to Brazil!

64' CHANCE! Good feet from Richarlison as he dances his way into the Ecuadorian box. His shot ricochets to the feet of Neymar, who lets fly with his left foot while off-balance. Dominguez is positioned well and collects the low drive with ease.

63' Casemiro escapes censure after a cynical block on Estupinan leading a counter-attack. Gustavo Alfaro is livid in the Ecuadorian bench - I'm sure Lionel Messi sympathises.

61' WAS THAT A RED?! The Ecuadorian players surround the referee after Fred catches Enner Valencia with a late challenge. The Brazilian is already on a yellow and is perhaps lucky to escape.

SUBSTITUTION: Tite isn't hanging around though, replacing Fred with Gabriel Jesus immediately.

58' CHANCE! An outswinging corner from the right is half-cleared with the ball falling to Angelo Preciado in the box. The Ecuadorian hammers a shot well over the bar from a promising position.

57' Brazil's dominance has cooled off, with Ecuador gradually growing into the game. Enner Valencia attempts to find Alan Franco in the box, and eventually earns a corner for his efforts.

54' YELLOW! Enner Valencia goes into the book for a late challenge on Danilo. It seems a harsh decision on the replays, with Valencia appearing to slip.

52' CHANCE! Casemiro lofts a beautiful ball to an onrushing Richarlison in the box, but the Everton forward tumbles to the floor. The referee waves play on, and replays confirm Richarlison effectively tripped himself up.

50' Ouch. Richarlison plucks a diagonal ball out of thin air with a delicious touch on the left wing, but the linesman plays spoilsport by flagging for offside. It's almost as if the officials don't want to see good football.

48' Much more positive from Brazil as Danilo attempts to find Neymar in the box. The PSG superstar goes down under a challenge from Jhegson Mendez but the referee immediately waves play on.

46' A promising start the the half, as Brazil are playing at a high-tempo, with Richarlison almost finding Gabigol in the box.

46' AND WE'RE OFF! Brazil get us underway in the second half, kicking off from right to left.

Half Time: Brazil 0-0 Ecuador

Not the best advertisement for South American football, as the two highest-scoring sides in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers so far conspire to play out a poor half of football, with more fouls than chances.

Alexander Dominguez has been the busier keeper in the Ecuadorian goal but La Tri have looked quite comfortable so far. Gabigol had a goal denied with Neymar becoming more influential as the half came to an end, but it seems that we're destined for an attritional second half.

45+4' The referee brings an end to a dismal first half.

45+3' Neymar is back up, but he limps off the pitch with a perturbed look.

45+2' Neymar is writhing on the floor, with Jhengson Mendez catching him on his ankle. There are worried looks on the Brazilian bench as the PSG superstar receives treatment. He looks in quite a bit of pain.

45' We have two minutes of added time. I need some coffee.

45' Neymar whips in the corner, hoping to catch Dominguez out at the near post, but the ball finds the side netting instead. Cheeky.
