After two consecutive 1-0 losses, reigning champions Hyderabad FC finally secure all three points for the first time since November 9.

Both teams looked evenly matched in a first half that saw limited goalmouth action, but was entertaining nevertheless. The Nizams turned on the screws in the second half, dominating possession and pinning Chennaiyin FC on the backfoot. They got their reward for the same when the hosts failed to clear a short corner, with Halicharan Narzary lashing a left-footed effort into the bottom corner in the 65th minute.

Chennaiyin could barely begin mustering a response when Ajith Kumar was sent off seven minutes later for a second bookable offense. Two minutes later, Hyderabad scored a second as Chinglensana Singh slammed a volley home from inside the box after yet another poor clearance by the Marina Machans.

However, there was still life in Thomas Brdaric's side as Petar Sliskovic got a goal back in the 78th minute from Nasser El Khayati's perfectly weighted cross. Their joy was short-lived though as substitute Borja Gonzalez fired a goal of the season contender from outside the box to seal all three points once and for all in the 86th minute.

With the win, Hyderabad FC move to 19 points from nine matches and second in the ISL 2022-23 standings, while Chennaiyin FC remain seventh with only 10 points from their first eight games.

Less than half an hour to kick-off, so let's take a quick look at the recent head-to-head between the two teams.

Chennaiyin and Hyderabad met twice in the ISL last season. The Marina Machans won the first encounter 1-0 on the back of Vladimir Koman's penalty, while the reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw. Sajid Dhot opened the scoring for Chennaiyin in that game before Javier Siverio equalized for Manolo Marquez's men.

The two teams also clashed at the Durand Cup earlier this year. Anirudh Thapa gave CFC the lead just before half-time, but a red card to Fallou Diagne put Thomas Brdaric's side on the backfoot. Bart Ogbeche scored twice after Joao Victor's penalty to give the Nizams a 3-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad have also made a few changes to the team that lost 1-0 to ATK Mohun Bagan last time out. Reagan Singh has been replaced by Halicharan Narzary, with Nikhil Poojari slotting in at right-back. Borja Gonzalez also drops to the bench, with Joel Chianese taking his place.

Gurmukh Singh, who featured sparingly during the 2022 Durand Cup, gets his first start of ISL 2022-23, as do Edwin Vanspaul and Vincy Barretto. Both teams enter this match on the back of losses in their most recent games. The Nizams, who slipped to third in the standings after Odisha FC's 2-1 win over NorthEast United on Thursday, suffered a 1-0 defeat against ATK Mohun Bagan in their last outing. Prior to that, they fell to a defeat by the same scoreline against last season's finalists, Kerala Blasters FC.

Meanwhile, Chennaiyin fell to a thrilling 3-2 defeat at the Kalinga Stadium against Odisha in their last match, with Nandhakumar Sekar scoring the winner deep into added time. Prior to that, the Marina Machans eased past Jamshedpur FC 3-1 in their most recent home game. Currently seventh in the ISL 2022-23 table, Thomas Brdaric's could move to fifth with a win in this contest.
