Kyle Mayers started the chase with a great level of intensity. The West Indies all-rounder was on a destructive mode as it took apart CSK pacers in powerplay. He smashed his successive fifty in IPL 2023 in just 21 balls.

Moeen Ali put brakes on Kyle Mayers' carnage. He dismissed him in the final over of powerplay. Moeen and Mitchell Santner bowled in tandem and shifted the momentum in CSK's corner. Moeen also picked the wickets of KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis to finish with 4/26 from four overs.

There was a brief theat from Nicholas Pooran when he smashed thos boundaries in the middle overs but CSK had its ways to respond to it. Tushar Deshpande got Pooran caught at long-off by Ben Stokes at the end of the 16th over.

There were a few shots by Krishnappa Gowtham late in the innings but not sufficient as LSG fell 12 runs short of the target.

Moeen Ali (POTM): It's not easy, it was a tough one because they have big hitters. I just tried to bowl almost like Test cricket. I tried to spin it as much as I can. I think it was important to try and spin the ball. They have big hitters. That combination (with Santner) was really nice. I thought that partnership worked and we took wickets. MS knows his thing obviously. The great thing about playing under MS is that he knows when to bowl whom. I probably wouldn't have bowled in the last game too. The pressure is on the right-handers to hit to the big side. I'm obviously not going to bowl all the time with Jadeja here as well. I think it's about partnerships.

MS Dhoni: (Any weaknesses to address?) It's the fast bowling that needs to slightly improve. They need to bowl according to the conditions. Even if it is on the flatter side, have fielders and bowl in areas where you are trying to get the batters to hit over the fielders. Keep an eye on what the opposition bowlers are doing so that you can plan according to the strength or pace you have. They must also not bowl no balls or wides else they'll have to play under a new captain (grins). It will be my second warning and I'll be off. Whenever it's a high-scoring game it's important to get the most. The only reason you have scored those runs is because the surface is nice. 180 is a nice score but if you've scored 200 and the wicket is on the better side, it's always one hit or two hits that's the difference. So the more you get the better.

MS Dhoni: Yes I can hear you. It was a terrific, high-scoring game. All of us were thinking how the wicket will be. We have practiced for some time and we had that doubt. Overall it was the perfect first game that could have happened. Not to forget that this was the first full house game we've played in five-six games. I thought it will be much slower so I felt it was a wicket we could have scored runs. In the second innings they were able to play the big shots. I was surprised to see the wickets. We have to see over the next six games if game after game we can come up with wickets like this.

Mitchell Santner: It was a pretty good wicket to bat on. Both powerplays looked challenging for the bowlers so it was our job to tie it up in the middle. Always nice when Mo gets wickets and I could tie it up at the other end. On this wicket it makes it a little bit easier with the boundary dimensions. You want to try and get them to hit to the big side. Whether it was short and wide or slower and wider I tried to use it. That's all in my control. It's a privilege to play as many games (as possible). It was probably a bit flatter than I wanted but as the tournament goes along, we'll play a couple more spinners. It was awesome (to be back here). I have fond memories from 2019 and obviously one side of the stands was shut. It was great to play in front of a loud crowd. Obviously a sea of yellow and it was a privilege to play in front of them.

KL Rahul (2/2): Kyle has come in with some really good form and good to see that he has come here with the same approach. The innings he played at Lucknow was brilliant, he made the wicket seem flat. He did the same today and it was great to see with the opportunities he has gotten. I know when everything is against us, he (Bishnoi) puts his hand up, picks wickets and contains runs. Good to see different players putting their hands up, giving us the best chance to win games. (On the decision at the toss) Nah, not really. We did not win a few phases in the game and that is why we ended up not winning this contest. We were in the game quite a lot in the second half but we kept pressing on and that is how we want to bat. 4-5 of our batters got out on the boundary line....and those margins did not go our way today.

KL Rahul (1/2): Not the most ideal start after winning the toss. The first couple of overs, the bowlers said it was sticky and there was a bit of movement. I do not think we put the ball in the right areas and once you give that momentum away, they really capitalise when they have quality batters. Few mistakes from our side but Rutu and Conway played some brilliant shots. Something for us to learn and get better at. (On the second half of their bowling innings) When you bowl first on a fresh wicket, it takes a bit of time to understand what the right pace and length is. To go for 70-odd in the first six overs is what cost us at the end. We made good use of the powerplay when batting but it was certain phases we did not win and let slip away.

Badoni falls as CSK register first win in IPL 2023 closer to win

Wicket!!! Badoni went for the slog against the length ball and got caught by Dhoni after the ball went up miles high in the air. Mark Wood smashed a four and a six to finish the innings.

What do we know about today's IPL debutant?

Yash Thakur is a fast bowler who represents Vidarbha cricket team in domestic cricket. He was born in Kolkata on December 28, 1998 and his present age is 24.

He starred for Vidarbha in the 2022-23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, finishing as their highest wicket-taker and overall fifth in the tournament - 15 wickets in 10 games. He was also the net bowler of Punjab Kings in the last season of IPL.

It's great to be back with Flem. I obviously worked with him at Pune in my first year here. Great to be back around him and catching up on the old times. Every batter would say the higher up they bat, that's what they would like. But it is what it is, I have been given the responsibility to bat at number 4 so hopefully I can try and affect the game there.
