Matheesha Pathirana (Player of the Match): It started last season, I came as a replacement but now I am continuously playing. I am really happy. They gave me lot of confidence and are still giving me. Yeah really this is my best bowling figures in my T20 career and I am really happy about that. I feel like I contributed to my team's win. I am a die-hard fan of Cristiano Ronaldo so that's where it's from (his post-wicket celebration).

19:22 (IST)6 MAY 2023

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings captain): I think it was a very crucial game. If you see the middle part of the points table, it is stacked well. In T20 cricket, you need to have that cushion. It's not something we can get comfortable with because in the middle, 5/6 games are on the same points. Last few games, the result have not gone in our favour so it is good to be on the winning side. Frankly, we were slightly doubtful. I wanted to bat first but the think tank together said that there are chances of rain. I was slightly outnumbered and decided to go with the majority. If there's some kind of a confusion, we sit and talk about it. Ultimately, we decide to go with the majority. The wicket slightly slows down and is good to bat on initially. People who don't have very clean action, batters find very difficult to pick them. In this format where they have to go after him gets difficult. What is important is to keep an eye on how much cricket he plays. I think he should not go anywhere near red ball cricket. Also he should not play a lot of ODI cricket. Make sure he is available for all ICC tournaments and he will be a big asset for Sri Lanka. He was lean last year but he has put on a lot of muscle this time.

19:07 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians captain: (Where it went wrong) Everywhere, I guess. We did not bat well enough to put up enough runs on the board for the bowlers. Games like this can happen. We had an off-day as a batting unit. (Decision to bat at 3) I just felt what is comfortable for us. We lost Tilak Varma, so thought we needed Indian batters to bat in the middle overs to tackle their spinners. We lost three wickets in the powerplay and it is quite tough to come back from that situation. (Positives from today) He (Chawla) is bowling really well. The other bowlers need to rally around him. That is what we expect, it is a team game and we want everyone to come to the party. (On two home games) This year, if you look at many teams, there is no such thing as home advantage. At the end of the day, you have to play your best cricket and do well in all three departments. Next two games are quite important for us.

Chennai Super Kings 140/4 (17.4) beat Mumbai Indians 139/8 (20) by 6 wickets

Nehal Wadhera 64(51) | Matheesha Pathirana 3-15(4)
Devon Conway 44(42) | Piyush Chawla 2-25(4)

Well, that's as straightforward as they come! Chennai Super Kings have finally won a game against MI at home and it has taken them a staggering 13 years, 4777 days to be precise, to achieve this feat. It all went right for the Super Kings! Right from wining the toss to their bowlers putting up a good show to their batters doing the job for them comfortably, they did not leave any stone unturned.

It was never going to be too difficult a task to chase down 140 runs but it was made simpler by CSK's openers, who got them off to a flier in the powerplay. MI failed to realise that taking the pace off would be effective on this track. Arshad Khan conceded a massive 20-run over to Ruturaj and that set the tone for the rest of the batters to follow. Although Gaikwad departed, it was Rahane who and Dube who joined hands with Conway to do the damage.

All the batters got good starts and that was all that was needed in this contest, with not too many runs to chase down. CSK will be pleased with this win and this takes them to the second place in the points table. It will boost their qualification chances pretty significantly. As for MI, they have four tough fixtures coming up and they will perhaps be needing three wins to qualify. Plenty to chinks in the armour that need to be addressed for them and it will be interesting to see how they can come back in the next contest.

19:02 (IST)6 MAY 2023

17.4 Arshad Khan to MS Dhon

DHONI FINISHES IT OFF! CSK WIN BY 6 WICKETS! Dug into the track outside off stump. Dhoni has all the time in the world to just help it into the leg side and collect CSK's sixth victory of the season! Dominant all-round display by CSK and they have now propelled themselves to second spot on the points table!

19:01 (IST)6 MAY 2023

The chants get louder as the bowler runs in

19:01 (IST)6 MAY 2023

One run needed and MSD is on strike! Can he do it with a maximum?

19:01 (IST)6 MAY 2023

17.3 Arshad Khan to Shivam Dube

length delivery outside off stump. Dube winds up and drags it towards long on for a single

19:00 (IST)6 MAY 2023

That went right into the MI dugout!

19:00 (IST)6 MAY 2023

17.2 Arshad Khan to Shivam Dube

SIX! Banged into the track down the leg side. Dube gets inside the line of the ball and pounds it over the fine leg fence!

18:59 (IST)6 MAY 2023

17.1 Arshad Khan to Shivam Dube

slower delivery dug into the track outside off stump. Dube has a massive heave across the line but gets nowhere close to it

18:59 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Arshad Khan (1-0-20-0) is back into the attack. Can CSK finish it off in this over?

18:58 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Dube retains strike to the disappointment of the crowd. Nonetheless, it has been a good first over from Madhwal. One can only wonder whether he could have been tried out earlier in the innings instead of being preserved for the death. Certainly has a plethora of talent.

18:58 (IST)6 MAY 2023

End of over 17 (4 runs), Chennai Super Kings 132/4

Shivam Dube 19(15)
MS Dhoni 1(2)

18:56 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Switches to over the wicket for MSD now

18:55 (IST)6 MAY 2023

A loud cheer now as MS Dhoni, RHB, walks out to the middle

18:55 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Was trying an innovative shot there! If there was no bat involved, this just might be a wicket to Madhwal! And yes, there isn't bat involved! The umpire reverses his decision and Devon Conway departs as Madhwal strikes in his first over itself! But he's done his job surely for the side!

18:53 (IST)6 MAY 2023

16.3 Akash Madhwal to Devon Conway

GIVEN BY DRS! Very full delivery angled into off stump. Conway walks across his stumps and tries the lap. The ball might have hit the pad before racing away past the keeper for four. The umpire, too, reckons it is not out. MI, though, want to take this upstairs! No bat involved, this could be very close now! Three reds on Ball Tracking and Conway has to depart!
Devon Conway lbw b Akash Madhwal 44 (42b 4x4 0x6)

18:52 (IST)6 MAY 2023

16.2 Akash Madhwal to Shivam Dube

short delivery at the stumps. Dube gets onto the back foot and pulls it towards deep square leg for one more run

18:51 (IST)6 MAY 2023

16.1 Akash Madhwal to Devon Conway

back of a length delivery at the body. Conway jams it into his pads and Dube is quick enough to hare across to the other end

18:50 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Akash Madhwal, right arm medium fast, is into the attack

18:48 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Timeout! A fairly quiet over as Stubbs get through his over without conceding a boundary. Surely, just formalities remain now as CSK are not far away from completing the double over MI, who have just not turned up today.

18:47 (IST)6 MAY 2023

End of over 16 (5 runs), Chennai Super Kings 128/3

Devon Conway 43(40)
Shivam Dube 17(13)
Tristan Stubbs 14/1

18:47 (IST)6 MAY 2023

18:47 (IST)6 MAY 2023

tossed up on a length outside off stump. Dube comes forward and eases it down the ground

back of a length delivery outside off stump. Conway goes back and punches it down the ground for a single

18:44 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Tristan Stubbs (1-0-9-1) is back into the attack. He will bowl around the wicket to the left-handers.

Rohit had set an aggrieve field in the over but it might be too little, too late for MI. They are comfortably short by at least 25-30 runs and they needed those extra runs on the board considering their bowling does not bear the strongest of looks. Four runs of the previous over and now CSK need another 17 runs in 5 overs.

18:43 (IST)6 MAY 2023

End of over 15 (4 runs), Chennai Super Kings 123/3

Devon Conway 40(37)
Shivam Dube 15(10)
Jofra Archer 24/0

18:43 (IST)6 MAY 2023

18:40 (IST)6 MAY 2023

He's bowling around the wicket to Dube

18:39 (IST)6 MAY 2023

14.1 Jofra Archer to Shivam Dube

OH! Length delivery outside off stump. Dube swings for the hills but only connects with the fresh Chennai air

18:38 (IST)6 MAY 2023

Jofra Archer (3-0-20-0) is back into the attack

He's a master at playing spin, is Dube! He uses his reach and with his long levers, plays across the line and clears the boundary consistently! A massive over as 14 runs come off it and surely, only formalities remain in this contest! 21 runs needed for victory now and CSK would want to do it in a couple of overs.

18:38 (IST)6 MAY 2023

End of over 14 (14 runs), Chennai Super Kings 119/3

Shivam Dube 13(6)
Devon Conway 38(35)

slowed up on a length just outside off stump. Dube thinks about going downtown before deciding against it and defending

18:37 (IST)6 MAY 2023

13.3 Raghav Goyal to Shivam Dube

flatter and quicker on a full length on off stump. Dube comes forward and defends it back to the bowler

18:36 (IST)6 MAY 2023

13.2 Raghav Goyal to Shivam Dube

DUBE GOES BIG! Short just outside off stump and that is all that Dube requires! He rocks back and pummels it 10 rows back over the deep mid wicket fence!
