Yes, Deepika Kumari did better than London and Rio de Janeiro and that is a good start for the Indian archer.

She was under immense pressure leading up into this tournament but she has ensured she lives up to the expectations, taking it day by day.

While Karma of Bhutan was a breeze, Jennifer did pose some challenge to Deepika matching shot to shot. However, it was Deepika's composure and her talent has made sure she in the third round.

Deepika didn't totally dominate this round. She had her moments, capitalized by scoring when it mattered. She even had a horrid six-pointer but made sure she got the arrow where she wanted it to go to neutralize the lapse.

All in all, it was a neck-to-neck and tough luck to the American while Deepika Kumari waits for her third round opponent.

The archers although shoot from their point to the board - a straight line - the arrow takes a parabolic curve to reach the target. Imagine what all calculations the archers have to keep in mind to shoot from their point!

Deepika Kumari will face 24th seed Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez in the second round.

The top-ranked archer has been on the money. She has stayed calm and her perseverance has been top notch. She took her time for the release and executed it to perfection.

Karma was error prone and it helped Deepika widen the gap. While the conditions weren't conducive, Karma couldn't put up a fight in any of the three sets as she didn't challenge Deepika with any shot.

We will now see Deepika Kumari again in the next half hour or so when she plays her second round match.

Deepika Kumari vs pressure

Deepika Kumari has gone into previous editions of the Olympics too as World No. 1, but, pressure had got the better of her in the past giving her unfavourable results prompting for a lot of criticism.

She is in the same situation now. World No. 1 and an Olympic field but having grown into a more mature archer, Deepika would be able to handle the pressure better.

The conditions are not conducive. There is a lot of wind and archers have been struggling to find the right spot. We have even see archers score 6s and 5s, something that was unheard of in this edition of the Olympics.

Windy conditions welcome us to the Yumenoshima Field. We will have World No. 1 and India's top archer Deepika Kumari in action.

She will be up against the lowly-ranked archer from Bhutan, Karma.

Deepika finished ninth in the qualification round and that has helped her to stay in the top half and meet low-ranked archers.
