Germany have got the 3 points, which was not a given towards the end of the game.
It was Joachim Low's side which dominated proceedings in the first half. Stindl scored his first ever goal for the senior national team to give his side the lead in the 5th minute before Rogic was lucky to pull one back for the Socceroos against the run of play. Julian Draxler, the captain, stepped up to the occasion and dispatched a penalty with aplomb on the stroke of half-time to restore Germany's 1-goal lead.

Goretzka - arguably the best player on the pitch - doubled their lead immediately after the restart before Juric capitalized on some poor goalkeeping by Leno to score Australia's second. However, it was not enough as Germany still held on to win the game 3-2.

90+4' OUTRAGEOUS piece of skill by Mooy to rob Rudy. The ball was going out on the bounce when Mooy goes and flicks it up and over Rudy, with the German international clueless. That was simply outstanding.

Germany are happy with keeping the ball. They just want to run down the clock.

90+1' Timo Werner fires wide after an excellent run. The RB Leipzig forward evaded 3 challenges near the halfway line before cutting in and going across the face of goal. He tries to beat Ryan at the far post but it is wide.

89' Goretzka fires over after being set up by Werner, who latched onto an excellent ball by Brandt.

88' Behich makes a run down the left and tries to find Cahill with a cross but Mustafi is there to stop the cross.

87' Substitution: The substitution that we have all been waiting for is here. Tim Cahill joins us. The veteran Australian comes on to replace Juric.

83' Germany have got back into their groove and have a half-chance to double their lead. There is a slight ping-pong in the box but no German player can slam it home.

80' And Leno it is, redeeming himself once again. A through ball is played to Juric and the forward almost gets on the end of it but for Leno, who sprints out of his box and makes a diving clearance.

78' Kruse is denied by Leno with the goalkeeper forced into making another good save. Australia believe here and they are not going down without a fight.

77' Substitution: Emre Can comes on to replace goalscorer Stindl.

75' OHHH!! Timo Werner almost scores the 4th for Germany.
Werner shrugged off Degenek before side-stepping to evade Sainsbury. The RB Leipzig forward tries to beat Ryan at the near post and although he does succeed with it, his shot cannons of the upright.

73' Troisi is denied by Leno. The German doesn't make a mess of this one. Troisi has just been introduced by the Socceroos and he almost makes an instant impact. He has the ball in the middle and is allowed to be in acres of space, the forward tries to curl it into the far corner but Leno is there to stop it.

We are into the last 20 minutes of the game and Australia have thrown caution to the wind.

70' Substitution: Rogic comes off to be replaced by Troisi.

Australia are preparing to send James Troisi on.

68' Leckie bursts down the right flank and tries to square it for Juric in the middle but his cross is cut out in the middle and Germany start from the back.

Australia are enjoying possession as they try and find the equaliser here in Sochi. Can they do it?

64' Yellow Card: Sainsbury goes into the referee's books for a foul on Werner down the right flank.

We have a game on our hand folks and Germany are worried. We are set for a thrilling finish.

63' Substitution: Niklas Sule comes on to replace Brandt.

57' Substitution: Germany are the first one to make a change with Timo Werner coming on to replace Sandro Wagner.

56' GOAALLL! Australia pull one back, once again, but it is being reviewed.
The GOAL stands and Australia are back in the game, another error by Leno.

From the resulting free-kick, Mooy tried to find the back of the net but his effort crashed against the wall and fell to Rogic. The goalscorer took another shot from outside of the box which deflected off Juric and Leno was unable to gather. The spilled ball fell to Juric - a couple of yards from goal - and he was making no mistakes from there.

55' Yellow Card: Leon Goretzka is booked for a foul on Rogic and Australia have free-kick in a very very interesting position.

54' Goretzka turns the provider now as he tries to ping a ball into the box to find the run of Brandt but the winger is unable to get there and it is cleared.

51' Goretzka makes another run into the box and it was spotted by Rudy who pings an over the top ball into the box but Ryan comes out and punches it clear.

Germany start the second half, the same way they ended the first. Kimmich has the ball on the right-hand side and the Bayern Munich man puts in a delicious ball spotting the run of Goretzka, the Schalke midfielder blasts it into the back of the net at Ryan's near post. He deserved that goal.

48' GOOOAAAALLL! Goretzka's first ever goal for Germany makes it 3-1. Game Over?

46' And Kroos almost instantly makes the impact as he races clear on the goal but the assistant has his flag up.

46' Substitution: Australia made a change during the break with Robbie Kruse coming on to replace Massimo Luongo.

46' PEEP! And we are underway in the second half.

The stadium is not packed to the rafters, here in Sochi. I wonder why?

In a half that was dominated by Germany, Australia got a lucky breakthrough but failed to capitalize on it as they almost instantaneously handed their opposition the chance to restore their 1-goal lead.

HALF-TIME: Australia 1-2 Germany

44' GOAAALLLL!!!! Julian Draxler steps up and converts to make it 2-1. This is end-to-end stuff.

Germany hit back almost immediately after conceding that goal against the run of play.

Coming back to the penalty, Goretzka - the star of the show for Germany - is brought down inside the box by Luongo and the referee points straight to the spot.

Draxler steps up and drills the ball down the middle, with Ryan diving to his right, to restore his side's one-goal lead. The captain made no mistakes there.

43' PENALTY TO GERMANY after Goretzka is brought down inside the box.

Rogic bears down on goal through the middle, he is not closed down and the forward tries to beat Leno from range but makes an absolute mess of it as it ricochets off a defender before falling in the path of the Australian, who didn't make any mistake the second time, beating Leno from the edge of the box. In fairness, the goalkeeper should have done better but it somehow squirmed underneath him.

41' GOALLLLLL!! Australia have equalised and it is Rogic who has brought them back from the dead.

40' A vital clearance by Leckie denies Germany. Stindl makes a run down the right, and he was not going to be caught by any Australian player. Stindl got to the byline before putting in a tantalizing cross across the face of goal but Leckie clears it just above the frame of the goal.

37' Australia have fluffed a golden chance here. From the free-kick the ball is swung into the box and it evades everyone and falls just in front of Sainsbury, the defender makes the faintest of connections with the ball and it goes out. He was a few yards from goal and only had Leno to beat but he needed to get a proper connection with the ball.

36' Behich is released down the left and the Australian passes is to his teammate but the referee adjudged that he was impeded by Mustafi and the Socceroos have a free-kick.

Germany need to add another to ensure they have a two-goal cushion, Australia, meanwhile, would be happy if the scoreline remains the same as we go back in the break,

34' Draxler is released down the wings and the German captain cuts in before playing a quick one-two with Stindl, the PSG superstar then puts a through ball into the path of Brandt but it is slightly over-cooked.

Germany are wearing black armbands in memory of their former chancellor, Helmut Kohl - who passed away recently.

31' Now it is Draxler's chance to test the goalkeeper from ranger as he tries to curl one into the bottom corner from around 25 yards but the shot is off target and Ryan sees it off.
