Chelsea bow out to Barcelona, or should I say Lionel fricking Messi? Antonio Conte's men did really show up on the night and the match wasn't as one-sided as the scoreline would have suggested. But it came down to one man who made all the difference with his undeniable quality... once again elevating this Barcelona side to do great things in Europe.

91' Messi uncharacteristically loses the ball on the right flank as Chelsea have one more chance to go for a consolatory goal. But even that comes to nothing.

89' RUDIGER HITS THE WOODWORK FROM THE CORNER!

It has not been their night but Chelsea have given it their best shot. Antonio Rudiger meets the corner ball after rising above the Barcelona defenders but he is cruelly denied by the woodwork. That's the second time Chelsea have been denied by the post tonight. They were denied twice at Stamford Bridge too.

88' Kante releases Pedro on the left flank but it's a bit too heavy and Pedro plays it behind for Alonso. His cross is cleared for a corner.

87' Chelsea still enjoying possession deep into the Barcelona half to no real effect. Zappacosta goes for goal with his left foot after coming infield from his right wing back position. But it's a comfortable save for ter Stegen.

85' Marcos Alonso is fouled on the left flank and Chelsea have a freekick. They decide to take it short. Fabregas lays it off to Willian who cuts inside and goes past a couple of challenges to find Zappacosta on the right flank. A brief phase of pinball later, Jordi Alba wins a freekick for Barcelona and yet another Chelsea attack bites the dust.

84' Courtois finally makes a good save! Paulinho meets Rakitic's floated ball, unmarked in the centre of the box but Courtois had positioned himself well and pushes the ball out for a corner with his left hand. The subsequent Barcelona corner is rubbish though.

83' Here come Barcelona again and Aleix Vidal crosses one into the area and it is an awkward one for the Chelsea defence to deal with but Azpllicueta a.k.a Dave heads it out for a corner. Rakitic to take it.

82' Willian tries to bend one into the box from the right but his cross is met by Pique who clears it away. Chelsea win the ball back but Morata is caught offside on the edge of the area.

80' Lovely cross-field diagonal ball from Rakitic to find Vidal. Vidal slides it across to Suarez who goes to ground like a rag doll. Oh, come on, man. Get back up on your feet. The ref shares my sentiment and asks him to get up. Chelsea break on the counter but once again it's the final ball that's gravely lacking in quality as Hazard cuts inside from the left to slide it to absolutely nobody.

79' He goes for goal though it's too far out to go for it. It hits Willian's head on the way and Courtois is uncertain about how to deal with it and he just palms it away for a corner. Messi's subsequent corner is hit straight at the Chelsea goalkeeper and he gathers it without a hitch.

78' Barcelona have a freekick 30 yards away and Messi is on it.

76' Lovely run by Hazard on the right and he is picked out by Fabregas. 3 defenders raced to get to him and Hazard drags it back in the hope that one of his teammates would have sniffed the opportunity but no, it falls to no man and yet another Chelsea attack comes to nothing.

76' Suarez goes to ground as Azpilicueta puts his arm around him. The Uruguayan makes the most of it and wins the freekick but Conte is not impressed.

74' Alonso gets booked for going at Paulinho with his studs showing.

74' Morata tries to dart past Roberto send one into the box but his cross is cleared for a corner. They take the corner short but it comes to nothing once again.

72' Barcelona players are spread out on the pitch again and Chelsea seem to have lost some steam.

70' Once again the lack of precision in the final third costs Chelsea as Kante just decides to roll the ball to the left instead of going for goal himself. His pass is blocked and Barcelona deal with the danger.

69' Chelsea still probing, surveying the final third for gaps they can exploit but Barcelona have the liberty to put bodies behind and shut up shop and they're doing just that. Every goal that has gone in has only further reduced the spaces in the final third for Chelsea and with that 3rd goal, it looks done and dusted.

67' Chelsea for all their efforts will look at that sore scoreline that reads 3-0 right now and feel that it's unfair. It is, to an extent. They have been far better than what the scoreline suggests. Only if they had finished off their chances. Only if their final ball was good enough.

AND ONCE AGAIN, AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY, BARCELONA SCORE. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE CLINICAL AND BARCELONA ARE JUST RUBBING IT IN CHELSEA'S FACE NOW. BUT TAKE NOTHING AWAY FROM THE MAN OF THE MOMENT. 61' Alonso! Once again!

Chelsea switch wings to great effect and Hazard releases Alonso on the left side of the box once again and he goes for goal but his shot is once again blocked this time by Pique and what a block that was. Alonso has had 3 or 4 chances but his finishing has been poor tonight and it might just cost Chelsea dearly.

61' Lovely to see the Camp Nou welcoming Gomes with a loud cheer. That's a very heartening sight.

60' Hazard flits past Dembele and tries to put one into the corridor of uncertainty but his cross is wayward and ends up in the stands.

59' Andre Gomes is getting ready on the touchline to replace Busquets.

59' Busquets has signalled to Valverde that he didn't come away from that coming together with Moses all fine. Valverde is distraught but will have to make the change, it looks like.

49' Oh my sweet! Alonso is brought down by Pique inside the area but the ref says no penalty. There was an arm that was pulling him from behind but was there enough? Maybe not enough! But Giroud protests and earns a yellow card!

47' An incredible last-ditch tackle from Dembele on Alonso to deny the left back from unleashing a shot from the left side of the box after Giroud played him in. Perhaps the Frenchman could have added a little more weight to his pass. Chelsea win a corner but that comes to nothing.

46' Courtois with a ridiculous mistake at the back, offers the ball to Suarez as though he was a deity. But he vindicates himself by saving Suarez's left-footed strike.

46' The corner comes to nothing but Willian gathers the ball and goes for it from outside the box but Umtiti blocks his shot. It could have tested ter Stegen.

45' Some lovely one-touch passing from Chelsea to welcome us right back into action. Victor Moses slaloms past 2 Jordi Alba to win a corner on the right flank.

PEEEEEEEEEEEP! And we're off in the second half! High-octane it has been and high octane it will undoubtedly be in these final 45 minutes of this exhilarating Champions League round of 16 tie. If Chelsea can put 2 in the net without any further response from Barcelona, they will go through. And going by how things panned out in the first half, I wouldn't put it past them. Barcelona are 2 goals to the good but things are not as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

45' OH ALONSO! SO CLOSE AGAIN!

But near is not good enough. But what a strike that was. ter Stegen was beaten but the ball hits the woodwork and goes out for a goalkick. Is it going to be that kindof a night for the Stamford Bridge outfit? But they'll definitely not go out without a fight.

43' Chelsea are trying to force their way into the final third and they're showing signs of real quality with their passing and Giroud wins a freekick right outside the area as Umtiti drags him back with an arm that he wraps around him. Could this be it for Chelsea?
