Cavani has barely featured for the French giants, with just eight league appearances attached to his season's tally. The 32-year-old's contract expires in June, and Diego Simeone understandably believes he could add the firepower Atleti are lacking upfront at present.

Inter CEO confirms Eriksen and Giroud talks
Christian Eriksen is widely understood to be joining Inter in the coming days Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the club are continuing to hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen. The play maker, who has just under six months remaining on his current deal, has been in search of a new club for over a year now.
Marotta, assessing his options with respect to Eriksen's transfer, told Sky Sports Italia, “Eriksen is a Tottenham player, but his contract expires in June, so it’s entirely legitimate and authorised to see his agent in this period. That’s a long way off saying he’ll come here in January or June, because there is a great deal of competition and we don’t know what will happen yet.”
The Chief also lifted the lid on Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud, who has been on the peripheral zones of Lampard's team more often than not. Marotta added, “It’s normal that management works to prepare various negotiations so there are alternatives if it doesn’t go through. I won’t deny we spoke to Giroud’s entourage, we will evaluate the situation. The two moves could be linked, but what doesn’t happen on the transfer market today could happen tomorrow.”
