A couple of tweets before we end this one.

France with a statement win and they now await the winner of England v Senegal coming up later on tonight.

FULL-TIME! France 3 Poland 1. Mbappe's brilliance was far too much for Poland. Two unstoppable goals and an assist for the 24-year-old who was a menace all night. Poland were much better on the night but once they went behind to Giroud's goal, it was always tough and so it proved.

GOAL! Robert Lewandowski in the 98th minute! France 3 Poland 1. One more attempt by Lewandowski from the penalty spot. He changes the ball for this and then hops, skips and sends Lloris the other way. The French keeper went to his left and Lewandowski calmly slots it in to his right. A smile from the Polish marksman but that's nothing but a consolation goal. That is also the last kick of the game.

The penalty is saved by Lloris but the keeper is off line before Lewandowski kicks. Clearly off the line and the penalty has to be retaken. Such a poor penalty as Lewandowski, hops, skips and passes to the left of Lloris who dives to catch. But VAR again with the right call for Lloris was way too early off his line. He is not happy but that was the right call.

VAR are checking for possible penalty to Poland. It is given. Kamil Grosicki's cross hit Dayot Upamecano's arm and VAR got involved. It was from close range and to be fair Upamecano was turning his back and had the arm out. Just a glancing blow but is given after the referee went to the monitor to have a look.

He is found in the box on the inside-left channel, a touch to get it across him and then the opposite of what he did for his first goal - curling to the far-post and leaving Wojciech Szczesny with no hope, the goalie got something on that but was powerless to keep it from the far corner.

Just before the goal Poland too made a double change: Krystian Bielik and Nicola Zalewski replace Jakub Kaminski and Grzegorz Krychowiak.

With France having a cushion, they make a double substitution: Kingsley Coman and Marcus Thuram replace Ousmane Dembele and Giroud.

Giroud has a three on three on the counter and he passes to Dembele on the right who finds Mbappe with plenty of time, space and no men marking him, he takes a touch, sets himself up and then rifles a finish to the roof of the net - he was threatening to curl it to the far stick but befuddled the keeper by going the other way. No chance for Wojciech Szczesny.

This game has opened up totally now. Poland looking for the equaliser and France looking to hit on the break.

A free-kick for Poland on the right after Lewandowski bundled down. It's floated to the far stick where Kamil Glik outjumps everyone but can't get it on target.

A chance for France as Giroud tries to flick a cross from the right but it goes into the side-netting.

France too make a change: Youssouf Fofana for Aurelien Tchouameni.

Poland make a change: Arkadiusz Milik replaces Sebastian Szymanski.

Mbappe wants a penalty as he cleverly flicks and nutmegs a defender and then sees him barged down. But the flag is up for offside.

A couple of chances for France - first Mbappe's shot takes a deflection and almost goes to the far corner with Wojciech Szczesny stranded. Then Wojciech Szczesny comes and punches a ball and the referee deems that Varane barged into him. The whistle had gone and then Giroud finishes superbly with a bicycle kick.

Again Dembele gets away on the right but his touch is too heavy and Wojciech Szczesny is in to gather.

So Bereszynski took one for his team. From the free-kick, Griezmann's effort is punched away by Wojciech Szczesny.

YELLOW CARD TO Bartosz Bereszynski for bringing down Ousmane Dembele who was away on the right. And Dembele had a man right in the middle as well, had he squared from there, would've been a tap-in.

A couple of chances for Poland right after the goal, first a volley is pushed away for a corner and then Lloris comes to catch the high ball but inexplicably drops it, recovers though to hang on to the ball. Would've been such a poor goal to give away had the ball fallen to a Polish shirt.

STAT: That goal from Giroud makes him France's top scorer of all time with goal number 52 going past Thierry Henry.

GOAL! Olivier Giroud in the 44th minute! France 1 Poland 0. There comes the first goal. It is Mbappe who finds Giroud with a threaded pass, the striker is onside as he escapes and then on the turn fires his left-footed shot past Wojciech Szczesny. France lead.

WHAT A CHANCE FOR POLAND BUT THE BALL DOES NOT GO IN. Piotr Zielinski thunders the ball at Hugo Lloris who saves with his legs and then the ball is cleared off the line by Raphael Varane following another shot. It was an attack down the left and France were under serious pressure of going down a goal.

Again Poland lose the ball in a dangerous area, Mbappe is found on the left, he cuts in threatening to shoot on his right but then leaves the defender for dead who had committed, then goes the other way and his drive is pushed away wide of the near-post by Wojciech Szczesny.

Poland threaten down the right and Matty Cash's shot-cum cross does not take a touch of any of the Polish bodies sliding in.

A free-kick on the inside-left channel some 25 yards out to Poland following the yellow card but Lewandowski hits his shot straight at the wall.

YELLOW CARD TO Aurelien Tchouameni as he fouls Przemyslaw Frankowski.

What a chance for Giroud though the flag goes up for offside - I think on Dembele down the right. Griezmann feeds the winger and he crosses it to Giroud for a tap-in who on the slide can't tap it in. Would've had a VAR check had that gone in.

Again Poland attack but Jakub Kaminski's effort is blocked.

Poland threaten but Robert Lewandowski's long-range shot is high and wide.

Poland to be fair have been more advanced today than they have been in this whole tournament. They are pressing well too.

Poland lose the ball in the middle of the pitch and Dembele down the middle gets away, but his left-footed shot is straight at Wojciech Szczesny.
