Cricket, just like life, is a greater leveller. You never get ahead of yourself or take the piss out of mother nature. For large parts of this match, and even before it- considering the nature of the pitch- it did feel that the Indians perhaps got ahead of themselves. The misfiring batting unit once again crumbled and, for once, there was no rearguard action from the lower order. What made matters worse were their famed spin attack struggled to find the ideal length, viz-a-viz their Aussie counterparts.

But, one must not take anything away from the Aussies. After back-to-back drubbings in Nagpur and Delhi, the visitors-led by stand-in captain Steve Smith displayed that they had taken lessons from their errors in the last two games. Their three spinners were absolutely relentless, and the top & middle order showed better application than the home side. So, it's all set up for a thrilling finish to the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Will India fight back with vengeance and resume their home dominance or will Australia continue on their good work from Indore? We will find that out when the action resumes at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from March 09. Until then, its Goodbye!

GARY WINS POTM

Nathan Lyon is adjudged the 'Player of the Match' for his match-winning spell of 8/64 in the 2nd innings.

10:57 (IST)3 MAR 2023

India must be really hurting with this defeat though. Its not often they had outplayed like this on home soil. But they must accept that the Australians were more professional, skillful and clinical on this surface, reflect on their mistakes and come back hard in the next Test, which will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium from March 09th.

10:54 (IST)3 MAR 2023

To explain the magnanimity of what the Australians have achieved here. this is just the 3rd Test that India have dropped on home soil in 45 games since January 2013.

This is also just the 2nd win [lost 12] that Australia have managed in 17 outings since Jan 2005. Incidently, both have come under the leadership of Steve Smith

Australia WIN!

And, Marnus Labuschagne finishes it in style. Having unsucessfully tried to charge Ashwin two balls earlier, he connects it this time and lets out a guttural roar. This is a famous win for the visitors after the mauling they received in Nagpur and Delhi.

10:46 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the cusp

Head hammers Ashwin down the ground for a 4, and Australia one hit away.

10:46 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the cusp

Marnus handsomely pulls Umesh for a four past backward square to bring the equation down to 7 runs.

10:42 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Just 12 needed for Australia.

10:34 (IST)3 MAR 2023

The first hour has been a tale of two very contrasting halves. The ball turned and gripped in the first 30 minutes and every run looked like a milestone. But, as soon as the ball was replaced, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne took the attack to Ashwin and Jadeja, especially the former. As a result, Australia need just 20 runs to claim a rare Test win on Indian soil.

10:29 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the brink

Labuschagne brings out the reverse and nails it past third man for another 4.

10:29 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the brink

Travis Head smashes another 4 off Ashwin and then top-edges an attempted flick into the no-man's land. 50 up for Australia and this game looks done.

10:25 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the offensive

The replacement ball is clearly playing on Ashwin's mind. He goes searching again, and in the process, ends up dishing out a half-volley, which Marnus drove imperiously for a 4.

10:21 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Australia on the offensive

Head and Marnus smash a 4 each off Jadeja to make it 26 runs off the last 12 balls. Just 41 needed for Australia for a famous win.

10:16 (IST)3 MAR 2023

HEAD ON THE CHARGE

The change of ball seems to have worked to Australia's advantage. Ashwin overcooks a floated delivery and Head clears his front leg and smashes it for a six down the ground.

10:14 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Ashwin doesn't seem happy with the replacement ball.

10:13 (IST)3 MAR 2023

A rare bad ball from Ashwin; a half volley and Travis Head takes full toss as he lofts it over mid-on.

10:11 (IST)3 MAR 2023

CHANGE OF BALL

Some issue with the seam of the ball and Umpire Virender Sharma comes out with a new batch of SG balls. Will this change India's fortunes?

10:09 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Jadeja rips one off middle and leg, and Marnus misses the attempted hoike. India decide against the review and replays confirm that it would have missed off-stump.

10:05 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Ashwin changes his run-up but Marnus Labuschagne pulls out at the last moment. Players converge on the field before Umpire Wilson steps in. And, guess what? Ashwin reverts to his previous run-up. Oh, the tension is mounting in Indore.

09:59 (IST)3 MAR 2023

INDIA BURN A REVIEW

Marnus survives as the replays confirm a daylight gap between bat and ball. The ball turned sharply away on the leg-side and Virat Kohli took a one-handed diving catch. As it turns out, it came off Marnus' pad.

09:57 (IST)3 MAR 2023

INDIA REVIEW

India opt for caught review against Marnus.

09:50 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Head all at sea vs Ashwin

Ashwin really has the ball on a string at the moment. Dip, bite and turn, and Head is under a stern examination here.

09:45 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Stumping appeal but Travis Head survives

Ashwin gets one to grip and turn away from Travis Head, who tries to slash at it. He misses it by a mile and Bharat appeals for a stumping. But replays show Head is safe.

09:43 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Marnus Labuschagne gets off the mark with a cut past point as Jadeja errs in his length.

09:39 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Will Jadeja get rid of Marnus again?

Jadeja starts at the other end.

09:37 (IST)3 MAR 2023

ASHWIN STRIKES!

A dream start for India as R Ashwin send an in-form Usman Khawaja packing on the 2nd ball of the day. Its a straighter ball from Ashwin and Khawaja pokes at it. He took the decision upstairs but ULTRAEDGE confirms the spike, Australia 0/1 after 1 over.

09:30 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Usman Khawaja to take the strike as R Ashwin gets ready to bowl.

09:29 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Okay! So time for the action to unfold as the Australian openers and the Indian players walk out to the ground.

09:26 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Steve Smith on the cusp of history

If Australia win this Test, then Steve Smith will become the first Aussie skipper after Adam Gilchrist (2004) to win two Tests in India.

09:25 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Can India do the 'unthinkable?

Comment- Lowest total which India have defended at home is incidentally against Australia- 107 @ Mumbai in 2004. Can the Indian bowlers rewrite history books in Indore?

09:24 (IST)3 MAR 2023

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 3rd and final day of the 3rd Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test from Indore. This promises to be a historic day for Australian cricket as they eye a rare Test win on Indian soil. With 76 runs to get and all 10 wickets in their kitty, the Aussies are firm favourites. But, as we have seen in this series so far, a collapse is always around the corner, and the visitors will be wary of that.

India, on the other hand, will hope their spinners hit their mark as soon as possible: something they failed to do in the first innings. The morning session has normally proved to be the toughest to bat in this series so far. Let's see what's in store for us today!
