That will be all from Dharamsala, ladies and gentlemen! Hope we could provide with with a lot of excitement and joy. From out part, the entire team loved bringing the action to you right through the 5 Test matches! On behalf of everyone in our team, this is the pair of Pradeep and Bidipto, taking your leave. But do not forget to keep your eyes glued to the Test match going on in Christchurch between New Zealand and Australia, friends! That is turning into one interesting contest. And of course, keep following Sportskeeda!

14:50 (IST)9 MAR 2024

So, India sit on top of the World Test Championship ladder with 68.5 percentage points. They have had lots of positives right through these five games. But there is no doubt about the fact that the newcomers were the biggest gains for the Indian team management! Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, Devdutt Padikkal and of course, Yashasvi Jaiswal! They were above par, well above par! Congratulations to Rohit Sharma and his team for maintaining their fortress against a side that threatened a lot, at least on paper, before the series commenced!

14:47 (IST)9 MAR 2024

As for India, be it the seniors, be it the juniors, or for that matter, be it the debutants! Everyone contributed! Everyone. Batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy - you name it. India were superb right through the series. There were many big names missing. There were unavailability of players too. There were plenty of tricky phases right through the five Test matches, but India prevailed in most of them and how! They are deservingly, the triumphant winners of the series!

14:44 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Ollie Pope's 196 in the first Test, Ben Duckett's 150 in the 3rd Test, Joe Root's 100 in the 4th Test were the positive talking points with the bat for England. So also, Zak Crawley's form. Shoaib Bashir's twin five-wicket hauls in the series on only a 3-match Test career and Tom Hartley's much improved bowling effort right through the series were the things to take away for England with the ball. But apart from these, very little really! However, James Anderson taking 700 wickets and Ben Stokes getting back to the bowling crease should encourage the visitors.

14:41 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Rohit Sharma (India captain): (First thoughts) A lot of things need to go down well to win a series like this and they have, which is amazing! (On this performance despite some key players missing on occasions) We know that some people will come, some people will go, but that's alright, the younger players have responded to the pressure beautifully. The entire team did its bit. Whoever got the chance, put his hand up under pressure! (On the team's bowling in the series) We talk about scoring runs all the time, but, it is just as important to take 20 wickets in order to win Test matches, so, the bowlers were incredible! Anyone who had the ball in hand tried to make, and actually did make the difference! (On Kuldeep Yadav's much improved performance) I had a long conversation with Kuldeep, actually on many occasions. He has got something about him, we have to accept it. He has come back a lot fitter after injury and it shows how hard he has worked in his overall game. (On Yashasvi Jaiswal's Test career so far) Yashasvi has got a long way to go but the start has been magnificent. When someone has the talent like he has, you need to back him. He is a tough guy, there will be challenges along the way but his appetite for runs should pull him through, surely!

14:35 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been adjudged the Player of the Series! Here is what he has to say.

Yashasvi:
(On the series just gone by) I think I really enjoyed this series! I am happy with the way I batted, yeah! (On his approach) I was thinking about playing my shots without any second thoughts. I'm trying to play one match at a time. I would also like to say that I try to take the bowling on whenever I feel like the opportunity is there.

14:35 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Kuldeep Yadav is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: (On being asked, is this the best you've bowled?) I think so, it's just the hard work from the last couple of years, getting the reward now. I think really bowled well in Ranchi, I'd probably choose Ranchi, the wicket was slow and the way I used the drift was good. I like the Ben Stokes wicket in Ranchi, loved the Zak Crawley's wicket as well. Just focusing on the good length, very important for a spinner in any game, not think anything about what batters does, keep the focus on rhythm. Credit goes to the batting coach, Vikki paaji, he's helped me a lot. Backing me everytime I wanted to contribute with the bat.

14:31 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Ben Stokes (England captain): Now that series comes to an end, we've been outplayed by a better team, I think now with me who I am and how I look at things, with so much cricket coming up, Pakistan and New Zealand, taking the positives from series, something that I'll take it forward and move on. Not necessarily worried me, as a series on whole, there were small moments that we couldn't keep ourselves on top, trying to understand and be a bit more relentless, we all as individuals know that. When India get on top, the men come around the bat, when you have quality bowlers like Ashwin, Jadeja, you have to find ways to get the fielders around you out of the way, get the couple of sweeps away and you got to be positive, sometimes it can be the downfall, but the intent is always there. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett has been brilliant, Hartley and Bashir showed some real quality to the future. Bash has been exceptional, Hartley was brilliant. From personal point of view, it was great to be back on the field to bowl. Amazing to be on the field with Jimmy, being there for 700 wickets as a seamer is phenomenal, he's an inspiration for the youngsters, he's 41 years, he's the fittest I've ever seen, he's still got the desire and it's great to watch.

14:22 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Bowling stat alert: India have registered 5 5-wicket hauls in the series compared to England's 3.

Batting start alert: India have also registered 7 5-wicket hauls in the series as opposed to 3 by England.

14:15 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Rahul Dravid (Head coach, India): I think, really proud to be honest, we were behind in the first test, it was disappointing but credit to the team to bounce back, kept the calmness after losing the first test, just had the skill to come back and compete. The team stood up to the occasion, as a support staff, couldn't be more prouder. When you do lose players with that caliber, it can be tough, in terms of entertainment perspective, you have people coming into watch them. You have players coming in and stepping up, it was total team performance, everyone contributed at some stage of the series, that was pleasing to see. It's nice and privilege to work with, just not me, bunch of professionals to work with. Rohit's been a fantastic leader. Big shout to Ajit and team, we don't see much domestic cricket, they've challenged us to pick the right one's, it's not easy being the selector, you always get the criticism, but a big pat on the back for them. Some great performances, hard to pick one stand out moment for me. I'd say Ashwin coming back to the team after he what went through 24hrs for the team, wanting to come back and contribute, signifies the stand out moment for me.

14:08 (IST)9 MAR 2024

The 36th fifer comes in his 100th Test match! Wow! What a performance from a superb performer! Here is that fifth wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin for you, all over again!

14:10 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Ravichandran Ashwin: Very happy, I can't really put a wrap around how I'm feeling right now, lot of things happened in the last few weeks, lot of greats wished me and the media as well, overwhelmed and I've been amongst the wickets, that's all I can ask for. Through the series, I've gone to different speeds, different actions, in India you need to different skill set and it was worked out very well in this test match for me. Most pleased with this performance and the second innings in Ranchi. In India sometimes, the beauty is what's gone by, was playing the head, the new ball was biting off the surface, one good spell that I went through this morning. Firstly, like I said, I'm a bit insecure about what others think about me, I've kept my ears and eyes open, taken both things really well, doesn't matter it's negative or positive, don't want to hold back. I feel times have rolled around, the analysis goes around, how frequently we've played, the batters have prepared for it, thankfully I'm one of them who experimented and has helped me, it's better to stay on top of it. The far end of this ground, you can call it the end, there was a bit of bite of the surface, if you use it to your advantage, you can do well and I did well this morning with the new ball. Watching the wrist spinner is a delight, it's so heartening to see him to do well.

13:58 (IST)9 MAR 2024

India win the Test match by an innings and 64 runs and by doing so, win the 5-match series, 4-1!

Joe Root - 26 (56) and 84 (128) | Shoaib Bashir - 5/173 (46.1)
Shubman Gill 110 (150) | Kuldeep Yadav - 5/72 (15) and 2/40 (14.1)

After the kind of session India had with the ball before Lunch, it was inevitable that they would win. And win they did, quite convincingly!

Barring a partnership in excess of 40 runs for the 9th wicket between Joe Root and Shoaib Bashir, it was all India! It started with the wicket of Ben Foakes trying to slog-sweep Ravichandran Ashwin and getting castled. That, incidentally, was his 5th wicket of the innings. So, that meant 36 fifers in Test cricket in his 100th Test match!

Tom Hartley and Mark Wood were picked up in one Jasprit Bumrah over. Both those deliveries were too hot to handle for both those batters to be honest!

The frustration did grow when Root reached his 61st Test fifty and Bashir hung around with him, but then it was the turn of Ravindra Jadeja doing Ravindra Jadeja things to clean up Bashir with a flatter and faster one!

Joe Root tried to reach three figures with some big shots, but he then played one too many against Kuldeep Yadav, to hand stand-in captain Bumrah a catch at long-on to finish the game and secure a magnificent series win!

13:56 (IST)9 MAR 2024

And it won't be a hundred for Joe Root! England are all out. They lose this series as convincingly as it can get and their approach of playing fearless, fast-track cricket, has been given a big thumping!

13:59 (IST)9 MAR 2024

48.1 Kuldeep Yadav to Joe Root

OUT! HOLES OUT AT LONG-ON! That is it, India take the series, 4-1 as they thump England in this 5th test by an innings and 64 runs! Root decides to go big, shimmies down the track but couldn't quite get hold of it and Bumrah was waiting for that one at long-on and pouches it at head height as India seal the deal.

Joe Root c Jasprit Bumrah b Kuldeep Yadav 84 (128b, 12x4, 0x6)

13:55 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Maybe a spell of Bumrah to Anderson is the need of the hour! But for that, he needs to be on strike for the first ball. Root now only 16 runs away from three figures meanwhile!

13:58 (IST)9 MAR 2024

End of over 48 (1 runs), England 195/9

James Anderson 0(5)
Joe Root 84(127)
Ravindra Jadeja 25/1

47.2 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

stump to stump. Length delivery, Root gets forward to block.

13:57 (IST)9 MAR 2024

47.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

angled the length delivery on the middle and leg. Root presses and knocked it straight back to the bowler.

13:52 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Joe Root is only 17 runs away from his hundred now. He won't be wasting too much time trying to get to that. But Jadeja is one bowler who better not be targeted for big shots in a situation like this! So, the contest should be interesting!

13:56 (IST)9 MAR 2024

End of over 47 (5 runs), England 194/9

James Anderson 0(3)
Joe Root 83(123)
Kuldeep Yadav 40/1

13:54 (IST)9 MAR 2024

short and spun back in on the leg-stump. Root hangs back and clipped it past the square-leg region for a single.

13:54 (IST)9 MAR 2024

46.3 Kuldeep Yadav to Joe Root

good length outside the off-stump, Root reaches and swept nicely away as deep square-leg gets around, doesn't want to pick up the single.

13:53 (IST)9 MAR 2024

46.2 Kuldeep Yadav to Joe Root

flighted the length delivery outside the off-stump, Root leans and drives, but finds the cover fielder.

13:53 (IST)9 MAR 2024

46.1 Kuldeep Yadav to Joe Root

FOUR! SHOT! Exactly what Root needs to do from here on. Length delivery on the fifth stump, Root nails the reverse sweep down to third-man, runs away to find the ropes.

13:48 (IST)9 MAR 2024

So, what does Joe Root do now? He should be eyeing two things - his hundred and trying to make India bat.

So, as James Anderson makes his appearance at the crease, here are the reactions to his 700th Test wicket he picked earlier today!

13:52 (IST)9 MAR 2024

End of over 46 (5 runs), England 189/9

James Anderson 0(1)
Joe Root 78(119)
Ravindra Jadeja 24/1

13:52 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.6 Ravindra Jadeja to James Anderson

length delivery on the off-stump, Anderson presses forward and firmly defends it back to the bowler.

13:46 (IST)9 MAR 2024

James Anderson, LHB, is at the crease.

13:46 (IST)9 MAR 2024

That is a Ravindra Jadeja special! And now, it's down to the last English wicket!

13:49 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.5 Ravindra Jadeja to Shoaib Bashir

OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! It was just a matter of time as Jadeja looked threatening right from ball one in this spell. Length delivery, keeps it on the off-stump and skids on the batter. Bashir goes back to defend but misses, rattles the off-stump.

Shoaib Bashir b Ravindra Jadeja 13 (29b, 3x4, 0x6)

13:49 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.4 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

length delivery outside the off-stump, Root leans and driven it around extra-cover region for a quick single.

13:45 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Was that dropped by Jurel? Maybe not.

13:49 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.3 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

OH! Good length on the leg-stump, straightened big time and then beats the otuside edge, pings high on the thigh in the end.

13:44 (IST)9 MAR 2024

Slip and leg-gully are in.

13:49 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.2 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

tossed up a length delivery on the middle and off, Root leans and defends.

13:48 (IST)9 MAR 2024

45.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root

FOUR! Oh, Gill moves to his right too early and then the ball goes to his left as he looks to get back but it went past in a flash. Length delivery on the off-stump, Root attempts a reverse scoop, takes the outside edge and races away to third-man ropes.

13:43 (IST)9 MAR 2024

A much better over from Kuldeep and India. On the money with better intensity shown. They need to keep it there and there about and choke the runs that have come rathe quickly in the last 30 minutes or so.

13:47 (IST)9 MAR 2024

End of over 45 (1 runs), England 184/8

Shoaib Bashir 13(28)
Joe Root 73(115)
Kuldeep Yadav 35/1

13:47 (IST)9 MAR 2024

44.6 Kuldeep Yadav to Shoaib Bashir

APPEAL FOR LBW AGAIN, NOT GIVEN! Was that going over? Good length, turned back in sharply on the stumps. Bashir presses to defend but misses, cops the blow on to his body.
