Elsewhere, the Indian women’s cricket team thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan by 9 wickets, while the Indian men’s hockey team - led by Manpreet Singh - etched their names in the history books with a record-breaking 11-0 decimation of Ghana. The India badminton contingent blanked South Africa 3-0 to book their spot in the semifinal, while on the table tennis front, the Indian men’s team trounced Bangladesh 3-0 in the quarterfinal which will now see them battle it out in the semifinal of the event.
There was a lot more good news to celebrate late in the evening, as talented young swimmer Srihari Nataraj qualified for the Men’s 50m backstroke event while Joshna Chinnappa and Saurav Ghosal too made their way into the squash quarterfinals. India’s representation in Lawn Bowls too saw some progression, with the women’s fours participants beating Norfolk Islands 17-9 to seal a last-four spot.
It was all not rosy though, as the likes of Popy Hazarika (Weightlifting), Ruthuraja Nataraj (Gymnastics), Sumit (Boxing) among few others were all knocked out of their events after losing their events.
However, there’s a lot to look forward to tomorrow, with quite a few medals up for grabs as well! Stick around to Sportskeeda as we bring you all the LIVE updates from across events, medal tally and live commentary! Until then, Ciao!
