With that loss, India's table tennis campaign has also come to an end as the men's team had already succumbed to China in the Round of 16. No medals from the South Paris Arena, but it was nonetheless a HISTORIC campaign for India, with both Sreeja and Manika making the last-16 in singles and the Indian teams debuting in the team competition. We can hold are heads high!

Archana Kamath's heroics went in vain as India could not surmount the challenge being presented by the German team in the end.,

The doubles tie was one that could have swung either way, but Kaufmann in all honesty was the best player out on the table. Her decisive wins over Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula meant another BAD NEWS was incoming for Indian sporting fans.

Kaufmann def. Sreeja 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 [Tie score 1-3]

The 18-year-old Anett Kaufmann proved to be the difference in this all-important quarterfinal tie.

After come back from a game down to take out Manika Batra, Kaufmann dashed Indian hopes by beating Sreeja Akula in three straight games. Her counterpunching truly was WORLD-CLASS as the attacking Indian duo just ran of answers in the end.

Kaufmann and the German camp erupt with joy as the 18-year-old seals the win!

Sreeja off to a better start but Kaufmann is just SOMEHOW finding enough to counter her opponent's solid drives.

Maybe the Indian could try to jam the lanky German a bit more by going into her body?

Sreeja played well in patches, but the poor start was just too much recover from. She will need to be better prepared at the start of the second here.

That opening game really set the tone for the match and both players went all-guns blazing in the next two game. A tight fourth followed and the young Indian's willingness to play with a tad bit more aggression paid off!

India has its first point on the board, but another big match coming up as Sreeja Akula takes on Anett Kaufmann to keep the tie alive!

Easy does it! Archana gets India THEIR FIRST WIN and we are still in the hunt!

A sublime touch pushed the ball deep on the return and Shan put the ball in the net to concede the match 3-1.

Strong high-percentage hitting from the Indian helps her draw level. She went for the safer shots crosscourt, but with just a bit more intent and that made the difference!

The jerk on the serve crosscourt has been working well for Archana as she is just about staying in contention in this game.

RALLY OF THE MATCH, but unfortunately for the Indian fans, it is Shan who comes out on top.

These two are really showing off their skills as that exchange had top-quality shotmaking, with both player sending the ball back with more spin that the last shot!

Shan comes back with vengeance to open a five-point cushion in the blink of an eye!

ARCHANA DOES IT 19-17! The young Indian sticks to her guns and finally masters an EPIC game to give India a fighting chance.

Archana was at her best when she was attacking and going for her shots. The down-the-line drive was the standout and she will need to continue in the same vein to get over the line against a very DOGGED opponent!

Both women have had so many game points — four of Shan and five for Archana — but they keep coming up with the goods when behind?!

The level is very HIGH at this point! Archana will an absolutely brilliant rally, going after every ball with so much spin before finding the winner.

After falling prey to some very aggressive shot-making from the Indian, she has returned with venom to inch ahead again. Long rallies and it is Shan who is hitting the winning shots on ezch occasion.

Shan has a very high ball toss, which allows her to hit with just that much more acceleration.

Archana, however, doing well to neutralise the advantage and hitting with intent. She has opened up a three-point cushion here.

Certainly is as Germany surges all the way to victory.

Kaufmann, in all fairness, is the one who adapted to the needs after that opening game. She went on a rampage, drove every ball down and it was Manika was left playing second fiddle.
