Olympics 2021 Hockey: India seal convincing 3-1 win over Great Britain to cement semi-final spot

Right then, what a fantastic display of skills from India to take them through to the semi-finals! They have taken this contest 3-1 against their opponents, Great Britain, who despite being presented with opportunities, were unable to capitalise on it. The Indians were pumped up right from the get go as Dilpreet Singh have them an early 1-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game itself.

Although they were not given much possession, the Indians expertly grabbed the chances that were presented. A goal from Gurjant Singh in the second quarter gave them a comfortable 2-0 lead. After the break, Great Britain's approach changed as they took a more aggressive route. Despite that, multiple saves from goalkeeper Sreejesh prevented the Great Britain side from getting off the mark.

There was some hope for the British as Samuel Ian Ward scored a goal in the dying moments of the third quarter. However, just as the Indian camp was starting to get a tad nervous, a goal from Hardik Singh in the 57th minute put have them a commanding 2 points lead. Desperation was evident from Great Britain but they just were not on top of their game today.

India will match up against Belgium in their semi-final fixture on August 3rd while Great Britain have crashed out of the tournament. Is it coming back to the land of Major Dhyan Chand?
