It was a grueling test for Lakshya Sen but he has passed it with flying colours as he becomes the first Indian male shuttler to enter the semifinals at the biggest sporting event in the world. Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chan gave the Indian a stiff challenge but Sen dig deep and came out with all the answers. Both the shuttlers were involved in an intense battle for over an hour and it was the Indian who came out on the right side of the results.

The first set was a tight affair with both the players going after each other. Chou displayed some amazing skills as he brought his retrieving skills to the fore, as we had said he would, and made the Indian work extra hard for every single point. Sen threw everything he could at Chou but somehow he was able to get it back to the Indian. Sen fell just short in the first attempt and Chou pipped him in the first game.

The second set was a similar affair until the mid-game break with a slender 1-point lead for the Indian. But then, things started changing as Sen started creating a distance between him and Chou. He turned the tables on Chou and this time it was Sen with greater retrieval skills and that forced Chou to commit errors. Sen found the lines with his offence on numerous occasions and brought it to parity.

In the final game, it looked like Chou ran out of steam as errors started to flowing from the WR-12. Sen did magnificently well to stay in the rallies and make Chou play that one extra shot and pounced on the opportunities that were coming in more frequently now. Towards the end, Sen was in complete control and ran away to the finish line.
