Manu Bhaker, Yashaswini Deswal crash out of Women's 10m Air Pistol event; Finish 12th and 13th in Qualifying

Well then, it is a sad ending to the event for our Indian heroes. They've done their best, there's no doubt there, but right at the crunch moment, neither of them could jump the last hurdle. But their performances were right up there and it all came down to the matter of one or two shots.

Manu started off brilliantly with a 98 in her first series, but lost her way slightly after her gun had issues and she was a bit vulnerable then. She came back stronger and almost clinched the 8th spot. She needed one last X on her last shot, and right then, it was nerves that took over her. She ended up with an 8, and just missed her mark.

Yashaswini on the other hand, would go back and wish her first and third series were better, and wish she had more 10's, but to fight back from being 42nd on the list to finish 13th is no joke. She did a remarkable job to comeback, but yet again, when she needed those X's in the final two series' she came up just short. She did manage a 9, but that just didn't cut it out for her.

Manu and Yashaswini are the top ranked players in the world, and they surely have it in them to shine on the biggest stage. Yes, today was not meant to be, but both are far from over. Manu is competing at the age of just 19, and Yashaswini at 24. Both have a bright future ahead, and they'll surely learn from their shortcomings today, and come out as better players.

They have the potential, and they have the talent. An entire country stands with you ladies, so chin up and give it your best in the remaining events, for there are still chances for a medal in Tokyo! Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal miss out on the Top 8, ending their campaign in the women's individual 10m Air Pistol event.

Manu finishes in 12th place with 575/600, while Yashaswini ends one spot below in 13th, courtesy of 574/600 points to her credit. A rather sad ending to what seemed a promising chance of making the Top 8, adding to India's underwhelming performance in shooting events at the Tokyo Olympics.

There's still hope though, for Indian shooters will also be taking part in mixed events and in the 50 Rifle 3 Positions events, apart from the ongoing Skeet qualification.

Oh nooooo! The pressure seems to have gotten to Manu and she shoots an 8 on her last shot!

One last shot for Manu, she needs an X. It all comes down to one last shot. Can Manu Bhaker nail it one more time and push through? Or will she have to wait?

Manu shoots a 10, and that's also an X! She's got 14 Xs now, with one shot to go! She's on the verge of it, she's done a brilliant job so far, and she's just got to keep it together, which is obviously easier said than done.

Manu's first shot among the three left is a 9. Still tough, but not impossible. She's one of the best, and she has it in her, to do it!

Three shots to go for Manu, and she's now in 9th place! A lot of pressure on the youngster to make her last 3 shots count.

Yashaswini is all but out of the race, with three shots left and a score of just 547.

Things are seriously heating up in this event, Manu now in 9th place after two shots of 9 and 10. Can she make her way into the Top 8?

Yashaswini, meanwhile, has fallen down to 13th with a shot of 9 after two 10s.

This is a game of the narrowest of margins. Even a 9 at this stage can push you down. Imagine being under pressure in the Olympics, and an entire country hoping you get that 10.

Four 10s to round off Manu Bhaker's 5th series and she's now in with a chance of making the Top 8! Ends the 5th round with a score of 98/100, matching her best score from the first series.

Yashaswini makes a strong start to her final series with two 10s in a row.

Excellent start here for the Indian, she just needs to keep calm and get her shots right.

A 9, 10, 10, 10 start for Manu in the 5th round, as she trails Yashaswini by just one spot in 13th.

Manu's moved up to 12th now, with a strong showing in the 5th series so far. Just two 9s in seven shots, and a consistent run to end the set could put her into the Top 10!

A very strong finish for Yashaswini in her 5th series with three 10s in a row, taking her total to 96/100 at the end of that round. However, with one round to go and the World No.1 in 14th spot, making the Top 8 will be a slightly arduous task at hand.

Time for Yashaswini to give it her best, one final push for the top 8. We know she's got the skill and talent, and this is the moment it comes down to. One last series to qualify to the finals!

Manu ends her fourth series with a total of 95/100, and she's again fallen down the ranks but manages to stay within the Top 20.

Manu has more scope of improvement from here, as she's got two series to cover up and enter the top 8. She surely will know she needs to do better now, than before.

It's a game of cat and mouse now between the Indian pair itself, two 9s for Yashaswini has dropped her down to 17th spot. Manu in 15th.

Two 9s in a row for Manu and she finds herself in 17th place, while compatriot Yashaswini is three spots above in 14th with 48/50 in her 5th series.

Manu Bhaker, meanwhile, has three 10s and two 9s to show from her first five shots in the fourth series. Yashaswini's first three shots in the 5th series are 9, 10, 9.

Both are doing a fine job to stay close to the 10th spot, but both need just that little push to go past the threshold. Manu was there at the start, but has been a bit nervous after her gun had issues.

A couple of 9s and a 10 for Yashaswini Singh that have taken her to 97/100 at the end of the 4th series. She's made a comeback after a poor set, but some more consistency in 10s could catapult her into contention for the Top 8.

She's not giving up, and she's making her entire nation proud, with a performance like this. Surely she's got it in her to continue to hit the mark and barge into the top 8. Two more rounds to go, as the pressure must be mounting on them.

A matter of very fine margins is the sport of shooting, and a shot of 10 for Manu in the first series has helped her go above Yashaswini.

Two 9s to finish her third series, and Manu Bhaker is in 17th place after scoring 94/100. Yashaswini has overtaken Manu for the first time today, albeit by only one place, with 49/50 so far in the 4th series.

It's brilliant to see our duo fighting it out and now they both are very close to enter the top 10, and eventually the top 8. Yashaswini especially, climbing up the ladder, from almost being at the 30th spot for a while, right up to the 12th spot.

Three shots of 10s in a row for Manu takes her up to 5th place, while Yashaswini begins her fourth series with a perfect 10!

Manu has slipped down to 13th now, with two shots of 9 in her third series. Yashaswini in 19th spot, with 10, 10, 9 to her name so far in the fourth series.

Manu is fighting back to gain for lost time and she's doing it brilliantly as she hits the mark yet again to cover up.

Manu begins with a 10 but follows it up with an 8, before she shoots a 10 in her third shot. Yashaswini registers a hat-trick of 10s, ahead of breaking the streak with a 9.

A 10 for Yashaswini to close out her third series, and she's currently in 19th place with a total of 286 at an average of 9.533.
Yashaswini lost her way initially in this round, but she yet again, comes back sharper end on a positive note. She's not giving up at all, and is toying around the 12th - 19th position.

We're now into the third series of shooting.

Manu is back in action, and she straight away shoots two 10s, followed by a 9. The youngster caps off her second series with a 10 and finishes off with 95/100!

She's really something isn't she? Comes back after an unexpected halt, and gets her shot right on the money. Makes sure she closes out her third series on a high, gaining some much needed momentum for the third. She'll also have to have an eye on the clock to cover up for lost time.

Oops! Two 8s in a row for Yashaswini and she's slipped way down to 25th!

While we wait for Manu to resume her second series of shooting, Yashaswini has scores of 10, 9, 10 to kick-start her third series.

Fingers crossed ladies and gentleman, and let's hope Manu comes back quickly, else it would be heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, Yashaswini has made a stirring comeback! 7 10s in a row to finish her second series with 98/100 and she's climbed up to 12th!

Yashaswini is right back, as hits the bulls eye 8 out of 10 times in the second round to barge into the top 15. She's looking much better than the first round, and she could push further up the table, if she can keep this up.

If Manu indeed has problems with her gun and is not able to shoot, it could be a massive blow to her chances of making the Top 8!

Three 9s in a row now for Manu, and she's currently in 10th place with an average of 9.625.

Manu slides down further to the 12th spot now, with consecutive 9's in her tally.

Manu commences with a 9, 10, 10, 9 and retains her third place. Yashaswini a little bit more eager to get going in this second set, she's registered two shots of 9 and 10 each. A little off colour from Manu, who's managed only two 10s in her five shots in the second series.

The pressure seems to be getting onto Manu too now, as she's been just a little inconsistent to start the second set. She's also moved down to the sixth spot.

Yashaswini has a similar start too, with alternate shots of 9, 10, 9, 10 to start the second round. She's sitting in the 28th spot currently.

We move on to the second set now.

Yashaswini closes out her 1st set with a 10, and ends on 94 which keeps her just inside the 30s in 27th place. A lot to improve, and she'll hope to come back strong in the upcoming sets.

Yashaswini has found it a little more difficult than her fellow country woman to get starts, but she won't go down without a fight either. Expect her to come back stronger in the coming rounds.

A fantastic finish from Manu Bhaker on the opening set, storms up the ranks to third place with a hat-trick of 10s and ends with 98 on the first round! Yashaswini, meanwhile, seemed to be making a comeback, but a shot of 8 has moved her down the pecking order.

Manu has found her rhythm, and she's barraging to the top. Already up to the third spot after a brilliant display of getting in five 10's. She'll want to carry this momentum into the next round too, surely.

19-year-old Manu back in the top 10 with two more shots of 10 each, while Yashaswini is in 42nd place with only one shot of 10 from her five so far.

Manu is nailing these 10's now, with more consistency as she's about to get five consecutive ones to close out to the first round.
