MI vs PBKS Live Score, IPL 2023: PBKS beat MI by 13 runs after a fabulous final over from Arshdeep Singh

By Sportskeeda Desk | Last ModifiedApr 22, 2023 23:45 IST

MI vs PBKS Live Score, IPL 2023, Match 31 Updates: An amazing Saturday night comes to an end as PBKS hold their nerves and get back to winning ways. MI were in the game right until the last over with Tim David keeping them in the hunt. But Arshdeep Singh gave away just 2 runs and took 2 wickets to seal the deal for his side. An extravagant batting display from both sides had everyone hooked. It was hard luck for the home side but credits to the Kings who came out on top in both the departments. Another cliffhanger in the IPL, the margin of the win might be misleading especially due to a phenomenal final over from Arshdeep Singh. 16 off the final over could have gone either way but Arshdeep was just too good. He could have been well been the Player of the Match as suggested by Curran. The IPL action continues tomorrow with another double header in store. We will also cover the ECS and the Vincy T10 matches. So up until the next time, its goodbye and good night from myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) and my dear friend and co-commentator Sooryanarayan Sesha.

23:42 (IST)22 APR 2023

Sam Curran (Punjab Kings captain and Player of the Match): Well, pretty special. What an amazing game. The atmosphere and the support from MI are incredible. Nice to get the win under our belt. Personally, I think I should be getting the man of the match, especially with the way the boys finished the job well. I went bang bang in the last few overs, with Shikhar out we have to take responsibilities. Our group has started to come together. Hopefully, Skhikhar gets well soon. The coaches have created a great relaxed environment. There is still a long way to go and it’s important to not put too much pressure on ourselves.

23:39 (IST)22 APR 2023

Arshdeep Singh being handed over the purple cap by his skipper Sam Curran.

23:39 (IST)22 APR 2023

Several awards to be given away.

23:35 (IST)22 APR 2023

Time for the post-match presentation ceremony with Simon Doull.

23:37 (IST)22 APR 2023

Mind you, Punjab Kings would have got nowhere close to what they eventually ended up with if not for skipper Sam Curran's stunning blitz. Here's how Twitterati reacted to that knock!👇

23:30 (IST)22 APR 2023

Here's the man of the monent, Arshdeep Singh: Feels good whenever I take wickets. Right now, I feel more good since the team has won. The rhythm feels good since I changed my run-up a bit and it helped my no ball problem. My heart-rate wasn't even close to 120 (grins).

23:28 (IST)22 APR 2023

Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians captain): Little disappointed there. We made some errors on the field which can happen but we're not going to look too much into that. (What will be the message to the boys?) Just keep our heads high - we've played six games now, we've won three and lost three. Even-Stevens at the moment. We know there is a lot of time left in the tournament. We can't look down and start worrying about things. Yes we didn't come on top today. Like I said we made some errors but we'll look back at it. (On Green and SKY) Quite happy with the way these two guys batted today. It was important for us to keep us in the game and these two guys kept us in the game until the end. Got to give credit to Arshdeep for how he bowled the last couple of overs.

23:20 (IST)22 APR 2023

Punjab Kings won by 13 runs

Punjab Kings 214/8 in 20 overs

Sam Curran 55(25) | Harpreet Bhatia 41(28)
Piyush Chawla 2/15(3) | Cameron Green 2/41(4)

Mumbai Indians 201/6 in 20 overs

Cameron Green 67(43) | Suryakumar Yadav 57(26)
Arshdep Singh 4/29(4) | Liam Livingstone 1/23(2)

The Mumbai Indians needed a blistering power play to get anywhere close to the victory target. They had to chase 215 to win and the openers needed to get off to a flyer. Rohit Sharma struck a boundary of the final delivery of the opening over but Arshdeep Singh prized out Ishan Kishan in the 2nd over which put MI on the backfoot.

In came Cameron Green in the middle and in the company of Rohit, the duo started to make full use of the fielding restrictions. Green started off with some lusty blows and Rohit Sharma also came into his own. The duo got MI away off to a great start and the duo shared a 76 run-stand between them. Rohit was dismissed by Liam Livingstone against the run of play but that couldn’t turn the game in Punjab’s favour.

Suryakumar Yadav who was short of runs coming into the game out all guns blazing and started taking the Punjab bowlers to the cleaners. He struck some trademark Surykumar shots behind the wicket and square of the wicket and raced off to his fastest half-century in the competition. He was dismissed at a crucial juncture of the game which turned the game in Punjab’s favor.

Tim David was still there out in the middle and struck some humungous blows to keep their side within touching distance of the victory target. With 16 required off the final over, it could have gone either way but Arshdeep Singh held his nerves and bowled a sensational final over, bagging a couple of wickets and conceding just 2 runs from the over. In the end, it was a 13-run victory for the Punjab Kings.

23:20 (IST)22 APR 2023

It couldn't have got better than what Arshdeep Singh bowled there in the final over. He kept nailing his yorkers and none of the batters was about to get under those deliveries. Tilak Verma was castled by an inch-perfect yorker, Nehal Wadhera was introduced as the impact sub but he couldn't make an impact, getting bowled on the first delivery. It was all but over from there as they managed to win it by 13 runs.

23:22 (IST)22 APR 2023

End of over 20 (2 runs), Mumbai Indians 201/6

Jofra Archer 1(2)
Tim David 25(13)
Arshdeep Singh 29/4

23:22 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.6 Arshdeep Singh to Jofra Archer

THE KINGS PREVAIL! Aims for another yorker just outside the off stump. Archer thumps it with a cross-batted attempt as it rolls to long off for a solitary run. It won't do though for the Mumbai Indians despite all their best efforts. Arshdeep Singh, you are a superstar! Punjab Kings prevail by 13 runs!

23:21 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.5 Arshdeep Singh to Jofra Archer

NAILS THE YORKER AGAIN! Comes around the wicket and executes the perfect yorker outside the off stump. Archer fails to bring his bat down on time and while it's not a hat-trick, the Kings can see the chequered flag!

23:15 (IST)22 APR 2023

Jofra Archer, RHB comes out to the crease.

23:15 (IST)22 APR 2023

Arshdeep nails another yorker and its mathematically impossible for MI to chase this down from here. Take a bow Arshdeep, what a stunning final over this has been. 15 required off 2 deliveries. Arshdeep has broken the middle stump twice in two balls and the stump cams needed a repair.

23:18 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.4 Arshdeep Singh to Nehal Wadhera

SHATTERS MIDDLE STUMP AGAIN! Arshdeep you freak! Goes full this time as it tails into middle stump. Not quite a yorker although Wadhera steps out and ends up yorking himself. He jams his bat down looking to muscle it, only for the ball to sneak past his blade and dismantle the middle pole again. It's a broken stump yet again and barring a wide or a no ball, Arshdeep has done it for Punjab Kings!

Nehal Wadhera b Arshdeep Singh 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)

23:13 (IST)22 APR 2023

Nehal Wadhera, LHB comes out to the crease. He has come out as the Impact substitute in place of Jason Behrendorff.

23:12 (IST)22 APR 2023

What a stunning over this has been so far from Arshdeep Singh. He has feasted on bowling these final overs. Quite incredible from Arshdeep and the equation just getting dire from here. 15 required off 3 with Tim David off strike.

23:16 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.3 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

CASTLED WITH A RIPPING YORKER! He has made a shambolic mess of the middle pole! Inch-perfect yorker tailing into the base of middle stump as Tilak clears his front leg and swings across the line. He misses though as the ball smashes into middle stump and shatters it. It's a broken pole and we need reinforcements. More importantly, it keeps Tim David off strike! What a ball from Arshdeep!

Tilak Verma b Arshdeep Singh 3 (4b, 0x4, 0x6)

23:10 (IST)22 APR 2023

That shouldn't be a wide to be honest. MI have the review and it could well be a tactical one. That was clearly a fair delivery.

23:14 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.2 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

WELL BOWLED! It's the double-bluff as Arshdeep bangs it into the track on middle and leg stump. Tilak sits low looking to scoop it fine but can't connect as the bouncer slants down to the keeper. He has reviewed it for a wide though. Has to be out of chance.

Clearly in line of middle and leg stump as it crosses the batter so we move on. 15 needed off 4!

23:09 (IST)22 APR 2023

What a great start from Arshdeep, can Tilak Verma get a few away here? 15 required off the last 5 deliveries. What a cracker in store.

23:13 (IST)22 APR 2023

19.1 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

nails the wide yorker first up. David reaches for it and drills the ball off the toe-end to sweeper cover for a solitary run. 200 up for Mumbai Indians!

23:07 (IST)22 APR 2023

That was a good penultimate over for the Mumbai Indians but they still need 16 from the final over. Ellis erred in his length once and was dispatched for a 114 metre six over the deep backward square leg fence. Great running between the duo to steal two extra runs. What a thriller this has been so far.

23:12 (IST)22 APR 2023

End of over 19 (15 runs), Mumbai Indians 199/4

Tilak Varma 3(2)
Tim David 24(12)
Nathan Ellis 44/1

23:12 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.6 Nathan Ellis to Tilak Varma

SUPERB DIVE! Tails away off a full length just outside the off stump. Tilak sits low and drags it across the line between deep mid-wicket and long on. The two fielders converge even as the former puts in a dive and parries it aside before his colleague manages to tidy up with the batters completing two. Outstanding effort from Livingstone! 16 needed off the last!

23:10 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.5 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

slower back of a length delivery outside the off stump. David hacks it with a slash and miscues it over the covers. Drops safely and rolls into the deep for a solitary run

23:05 (IST)22 APR 2023

That is outstanding running between the wickets from Tilak and David. Wow, this is sharp thinking. Tilak Verma was always going back for the couple and both makes it comfortably in the end.

23:09 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.4 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

THEY RUN TWO! Gets the yorker right on off stump as David powers it back off the toe-end. Ellis sticks a hand out and it just about beats him to hit the stumps at the bowler's end before it ricochets into the leg-side. The batters tee off even as the bowler collides into Tilak before the batters manage to complete the second. Curran is having a word with the umpire over the collision - does he think Tilak was obstructing the field? Drama everywhere!

23:08 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.3 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

low full toss on leg stump as he attempts the yorker. David flicks it to deep mid-wicket who covers up to his right. The batters complete two easily in the end!

23:02 (IST)22 APR 2023

Goodness, gracious! How big was that? 114 metres. Has there been a bigger six in the tournament? It is a monster, Faf du Plessis holds the record with a 115 metre maximum.

23:07 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.2 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

SIX! COMING TOWARDS MARINE DRIVE! Misses the yorker as he attacks the stumps. Comes out as a full toss and that's fodder for David who clears his front leg and launches a missile way over mid-wicket and dumps it miles back. 114 meters - the second-biggest of the season thus far!

23:07 (IST)22 APR 2023

18.1 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

slower short of a length delivery outside the off stump. David stands tall and thumps a flat pull over mid-wicket before the boundary rider gets a hand to it on the bounce as he runs to his right. A slight fumble and the batters run two

23:01 (IST)22 APR 2023

What a good to the 18th over from Arshdep Singh. He mixed his length first up and was slammed over the deep square leg fence, he is a class act and made it evident as the over progressed. Kept nailing the yorkers and also managed to get the big scalp of Suryakumar Yadav. The match is beautifully balanced. 31 required off the last two overs.

23:06 (IST)22 APR 2023

End of over 18 (9 runs), Mumbai Indians 184/4

Tim David 11(7)
Tilak Varma 1(1)
Arshdeep Singh 27/2

23:05 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.6 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

very full outside the off stump. Not quite a yorker as David thumps it off the toe-end before it rolls down the ground over the umpire's head as long on picks up to his left. David is happy with a single and that's a phenomenal over from Arshdeep

23:04 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.5 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

full toss on off stump as Tilak covers his stumps. He works his flick to deep mid-wicket and crosses over for a lone run

22:59 (IST)22 APR 2023

Tilak Verma, LHB comes out to the crease.

22:58 (IST)22 APR 2023

An incredible innings from SKY comes to a closure, this could be a massive moment in the context of the game. Surya tries to get the elevation but couldn't quite get it over the midwicket fielder.

23:02 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.4 Arshdeep Singh to Suryakumar Yada

GONE! ARSHDEEP LANDS THE KILLER BLOW! Goes around the wicket and aims for a yorker on stump line but it comes out as a low full toss. SKY looks to pick it up with a wristy flick over mid-wicket but ends up finding the fielder at the edge of the circle. Taide leaps and pulls it off from over his head to his left and cannot believe that he has clung on. The reaction from Sam Curran suggests that it went to plan but what an innings that was from Suryakumar Yadav!

Suryakumar Yadav c Atharva Taide b Arshdeep Singh 57 (26b, 7x4, 3x6)

22:56 (IST)22 APR 2023

Two-inch perfect yorkers from Arshdeep. Does he have the courage to keep going after those deliveries?

23:01 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.3 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

low full toss outside the off stump as he attempts the yorker. David sits a touch low to drill it down the ground to long off for a lone run

23:00 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.2 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

BRILLIANT! Goes over the wicket and nails the yorker outside the off stump to angle it across David. The latter jams his bat down but fails to put bat on ball

22:58 (IST)22 APR 2023

17.1 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

SIX! MASSIVE! Starts around the wicket and arrows a low full toss into the stumps as he gets the yorker horribly wrong. David holds his ground and wallops his swing over square leg to send it soaring into the second tier. Pressure right on Arshdeep now!

22:52 (IST)22 APR 2023

Arshdeep Singh [2-0-18-1] is back into the attack.

It's a monster from Suryakumar Yadav to close out the 17th. What a knock this has been and what a time to score your first half-century of the season. He is definitely on the rampage and with the way he is striking the ball, the equation of 40 in 18 deliveries looks a pretty straightforward one. Which way the match will turn?

22:57 (IST)22 APR 2023

End of over 17 (14 runs), Mumbai Indians 175/3

Suryakumar Yadav 57(25)
Tim David 3(3)
Sam Curran 41/0

22:57 (IST)22 APR 2023

16.6 Sam Curran to Suryakumar Yada

SIX! WOW! He is truly batting like a man possessed today! Slower length delivery on leg stump and he stands tall to bring out a pick-up whip over square leg. Sends it soaring a mile into the sky before it drops over the fence and well into the stands. Gosh it's hard describing some of the shots this man plays!

22:56 (IST)22 APR 2023

16.5 Sam Curran to Tim Da

low full toss on leg stump. David drills the ball down the ground for a single to long on

22:56 (IST)22 APR 2023

16.4 Sam Curran to Suryakumar Yada

slower delivery on a back of a length radar on middle stump. SKY walks across, arches his back and brings out his famed pick-up cart behind square. Doesn't time it well enough as deep square picks it up on the bounce upon covering good ground to his right
