Right then, that concludes yet another day for the Indian contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympics - one which did not have too much action but where the Indians faced some heartbreak.

Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shubhankar Sharma were in action in their penultimate round in golf. While a medal looks next to impossible for them, they will be hoping to make the most of the fourth round tomorrow.

Then came Manu Bhaker's final, where she gave it her all, but finished fourth courtesy of a shoot-off after she tied for points. The disappointment was written on her face as she missed a hat-trick of Olympic medals at Paris.

The skeet shooters took their aims as well. While Anant Jeet Singh Naruka finished far away from qualifying for the final, Maheshwari Chauhan has made a great start and is placed eighth. She will be aiming for qualification tomorrow, while Raiza Dhillon failed to impress.

In archery, Deepika Kumari moved to the quarterfinals but lost to the Korean prodigy, who did not let Deepika get away with her inconsistent shots. Bhajan Kaur, meanwhile, was eliminated in her Round of 16 match itself.

Both Indian sailors - Nethra Kumanan and Vishnu Saravanan have not shown consistency, with their scores going all over the place in the first six rounds. Nethra, in particular, had a good chance before today but a disastrous show has put her into the middle muddle in the table. With only the top 10 qualifying for the medal race, both sailors need something absolutely magical from here on.

And finally, Nishant Dev started off strongly in his quarter final before Marco Verde had the last laugh, resulting in gut-wrenching loss for the Indian, who thought he had done enough. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be for the 23-year old.

That wraps a disappointing day for India but there's still a lot to look forward to in this coming week.Plenty of action awaits us tomorrow, with Lakshya Sen playing his semifinal against Victor Axelsen and the Indian men's hockey team taking on Great Britain. Join us back right here at Sportskeeda. Until then, good night!

Boxing - Nishant Dev in Men's 71 Kg Quarterfinals

Nishant Dev started the bout in a bright manner in the first round. He was quicker off the blocks and took to Verde who was slow to start. Nishant capitalized and landed some beautiful jabs on the Mexican boxer who seemed to be off color. The Indian took the first round 4-1 and went a step ahead to an Olympic medal.
In the second round, Verde managed to get back on track as it was the Mexican who upped the intensity and caught Nishant on the backfoot. After weathering a storm, Nishant managed to fight back in his own style using the left hook to good effect. The second round was a tight one and it went 3-2 to the Mexican.
In the third round with Nishant having a slender lead, Verde unleashed himself completely. He launched an all-out attack on Nishant who had seemed to have no answers to the punches coming in from the blue corner. The Indian tried his level best but it was all in vain as Verde was in no mood to relent. The Mexican outscored Nishant in the third round across the board and booked his place in the semi-finals.

Final Round - Verde is showing all his class in the final round and has gotten better as the match has progressed. Amazing pressure piled on by the Mexican boxer and Nishant will have to weather the storm for now.
Verde is throwing Nishant into the ropes and going all in as he lands a few more punches. Nishant needs to do something big here as his punches are not landing in the third round.
The final bell rings and both the men are absolutely exhausted. The Mexican pugilist hugs his coach thinking he has done enough while Nishant also gestures with a fist pump that he has done it.
It is a clean sweep across the board for the Mexican in the third round and courtesy of that he takes the bout 4-1 and sadly for Nishant Dev he will go no further in the tournament.

Boxing - Nishant Dev in Men's 71 Kg Quarterfinals

Round Two - Similar start to the second round as well but Verde is looking to be much more quick knowing he is behind. Nishant lands another blow and both the boxers are going at each other now. Verde has certainly increased the intensity a lot more in this one but Nishant has managed to keep his composure till now.
Nishant manages to fend off a lot of attacks from Verde and after creating some space tries to land s few punches of his own. Verde gives it his all but might not be enough from him as the bell rings.

Nishant with a fist pump but we will have to wait for the official scores for the second round.
